Congrats to Roanoke. They are really the only ODAC team that had W&L's number every time they stepped on the court. Well deserved trip to the finals and an amazing run so far this second half of the season.

Great final  - Good Luck Wasps in the NCAA's!

Congrats to the Generals for placing 2 on the first team and 1 on the third team all ODAC. A feat that I don't recall happening in the at least the past 15 years.

Coach McHugh does have that UAA cred - He did spend 1 season at a NESCAC school too. UAA tends to be larger and urban vs. smaller, and rural or suburban for NESCAC. Heck I don't care which conference he steals them from.

I have a feeling they are going to need to avoid Roanoke somehow, as Roanoke really seemed to have their number in both games this year.

You're probably right.

The again it is difficult to beat a team 3 times in one season - hopefully, if they meet again :)

Are there any other W&L fans hanging around the D3 forum. We have great expectations for the ODAC Tournament. The Coach McHugh has done very well so far with a nice group of players. The key is what type of recruits will he he get to really set the table for the future. NESCAC prospects should consider a southern alternative for their hoops and academics.

W&L's win at Shenandoah last night guarantees the Generals their first winning conference record since '07-'08 and only the second winning conference record in 30 years. With 3 very difficult games to go, at Roanoke, at E&H and hosting RMC, W&L will likely be well aware of what they face when the ODAC tournament begins.
Congratulations to the Generals!

It's been a long time - but I'm back.

So far the Gennies have exceeded expectations. They have two tough games and then the tourney. My hope is that they will continue to exceed expectations. There's a new sheriff in Lexington ;D

2-0 The Gennies are off to a nice start. It looks like they've got a balanced attack. Do I dare get my hopes up ;)

The D1 transfer that HSC is getting is Jake Duncan. Was at NJIT this past season and played HS ball at Williamsburg Christian Academy. VWC also has a D1 transfer coming in but I will keep his name under wraps until it is officially announced or someone on here comes forward. They do have some other freshmen coming in that have a chance to be immediate impact. Think the biggest name is Nick Douglas from Christchurch. he is a 6'2 guard who had a lot of Mid-Major D1 interest in the likes of VCU, ODU and george Mason but chose the Marlins over some smaller offers. Should be another great year of ODAC basketball coming up.

Yes NJIT is D-1 by strict definition. On a neutral court, if NJIT was playing HSC, I'd be inclined to give NJIT points & odds if they were meeting Farmville. ;D

That being said I hope the young man prospers at a fine basketball school.

D1 transfer, will be announced soon.

You've been around the ODAC for a while. How many 'D-1 transfers' have been impact players in the ODAC?

Mason Woolridge was a really good player for Lynchburg... his team was just terrible

You're right - he had a very nice sophomore year and a good junior year. Where'd he turn up for his senior year?

I hope that works out for him. I know HSC has several 6'8'' kids enrolling next year. Don't know anything about them however. Sounds like they will see plenty of action as a freshman. The kid I'm referring to is not a "big"; 6'4'' swing player probably playing the 2 or 3 spot. Can really shoot the three ball and solid on the defensive end. Good rebounder for his size.

Let us know when its official

It's sad for the Quaker seniors, but their season is over with an upset loss to Washington and Lee.  What's going on with the Generals here in the tournament?!!!

So far they're partying like its 2009!

Go for it Gennies - nothing like coming together at the right time.

Looks as though the Quakers draw the Generals ... congratulations to W&L!

Once a year the Generals put it together. I've been waiting all season for that one moment. Thought it was going to be against RMC the other day but I'm happy to see the Generals return to Salem even in this otherwise ugly year. Good luck to the ODAC teams!

I completely agree - Go Gennies! Remember '09!!

Roanoke lost to Washington and Lee last night in OT 87-84, a W and L player knocked down a shot just inside of half court to win it as time expired  :'(

I'll take it. Nice to have the ball bounce our way. :o

http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2013/10/15/washington-and-lee-offers-free-tuition.html

The program doesn't cover $12,400 in room, board, and fees per year.  That would still be a large amount for a family making less than $75,000 that had 2 or 3 children going to college.

It's probably not significantly different from what W&L was offering in financial aid to students at this income level previously, but it's better marketing for a school that's trying to increase it's diversity and having a hard time doing that.

Increasing diversity at W&L is always going to be tough. Named for a southern Civil War general and darned proud of it makes for a real hard sell. Most of that $12,400 could go through other grants. Can barely go to a state school for that kind of money these days. But I agree, this is announcing something that was close to a fait acompli already...

I'll start by saying my General never got a dime. I'd suggest that this is radically different than they offered in the past. If that increases the diversity that's nice. It is exemplary of W&L to put their endowment to good use, by to attracting the best students they can admit.

If a youngster can get in to W&L, and carry about $50k in loans to cover non-tuition items; then I say it's a home run.
