It's September, so it must be time to dust off my D3 Boards handle. Glad to see Alfred is doing well. Though, the games at St. John Fisher and at Ithaca scare me to death. Hopefully, Alfred can run the table and win the Eastern Region Championship. And by win the Eastern Region Championship I mean, losing to Mt. Union in the playoffs. :)

(Off topic a bit, I live in Oregon and everyone out here is a huge Ducks fan. A Ducks team that is currently under investigation by the NCAA for allegedly paying for players. I tell all my friends that if you want to root for real amateur football, follow Division 3 football. If you choose to follow Division 1, then just recognize that almost all the schools pay for their players, even the team you love the most.)

I listened to the broadcast of the AU/MUC and thought the guys did a nice job.  Good win by Mt. Union. That defense is just too difficult to penetrate. 5 turnovers don't help either. It was a great run by Alfred, but it's no shame to lose to the Purple Raiders. If Mt. Union keeps this up, you guys may be able to develop a nice little program. :) I'll be rooting for you to win it all this year.

I love that the Ohio Athletic Conference board is discussing the AU/ MUC game and other playoff games, while the Empire 8 board is in a heated battle over whether Qatar deserves the 2022 World Cup bid.

Go Saxons!

If I had to put a spread on the AU/MUC game, I'd put it at MUC minus 13. I understand that MUC doesn't lose at home. And I understand that MUC has been crushing their opponents in the playoffs. But AU has a solid defensive squad, a strong quarterback, and a running back that is peaking at just the right moment.

AU plays its worst when they think they have the game in the bag. But when they're challenged, they seem to rise to the occassion. They will never own the game in Ohio this Saturday, thus I suspect they give MUC their toughtest fight of the playoffs.

My Prediction: Alfred 31 - Mount Union 30

What's the point of being a fan if you can't dream. :)

(If you're curious about the handle, I'm AUKazoo's old college roommate)

AU guys - it is fine to have confidence in your QB- but if he tries to challenge Steve or Scott, you may have a problem on your hands ---in the name of  a big INT.

After the last two debacles, it's time to get back to basics with the Saxons offense.  Back to the ABCs if you will:

You went to Fisher to learn, boy
things you never knew before
like "I" before "E" in "Saucobie"
and why 2 plus 2 makes 4
now, now, now
Paul's gonna teach you (teach you, teach you)
all about Bork, boy (all about Bork)
sit yourself down, take a seat
all you gotta do is repeat after me

A B C , It's easy as
1 2 3 , as simple as
Bork Paul 'Bie, A B C, 1 2 3
Scoring a TD

Ahhh, Brilliant.

Nothing I love more than a song parody...

What does the NCAA have to lose??  MONEY.  PERIOD.  If they didn't stand to lose revenue from a tournament they would have already made the transition by now.  Everyone knows a playoff system is the fairest thing, but when the NCAA and partcipating schools stand to lose in revenue they will never change.

At some point, pressure from outside factors (politicians, fans, disgust over the BCS) will cause the NCAA to revert to a play-off system, but it's not going to happen overnight.

First we'll get a BCS +1, essentially a four team playoff system.

And then that field will be expanded to 8, and then 16, and then hopefully it will stop at 16. But I bet we're still a couple of decades away from a 16 team playoff.

Just caught my first Alfred game this weekend, and gotta say, I was pretty impressed.

Offensively they just dominated Husson. They clearly have several talented receivers and running backs, and it's very difficult to guard all of them.

My primary concern is penalties. Alfred gives away way too many yards on penalties, and in a close game that's gonna be the difference b/t a win and a loss.

That said, if they cut down on the penalties, I think they have a good shot at running the table against, Hobart, Ithaca and the Fishmen.

We'll see...

Oh, and Go DUCKS!

Actually, Hartwick would win the 3 way tiebreaker if it were to be right now.

They are ranked 24th in the NCAA's SOS numbers, while Fisher is 136 and Alfred is 124...

The E8 tiebreakers are:

1.  Head to Head
2.  Results vs. lowest ranked teams in conference
3.  Results vs. Common non-conference opponents.
4.  NCAA SOS Calculation

The top 3 wouldn't apply so if 4 applied right now (Although I realize Alfred is a game ahead) , Hartwick would win.

That is why the SoS only using the OWP can't be right.  Hartwick would benefit more from 1-loss Fisher and Alfred than Alfred and Fisher would benefit from a 2-loss Hartwick in their OWP.  Somehow the OOWP needs to be calculated in and not used as just a 5th tie-breaker.

New here... but uh, I'm thinking Alfred is #1.

And where can I read a recap of the Saxons dismantling Springfield?
