Quote from: WearinTheRed on September 25, 2010, 08:22:04 PMLooks like the Devils found themselves a QB. Junior Ricky Martz was 23 for 29 for 262 yards passing. Hefler had 8 catches for 155 yards. Hopefully this win gets the boys from Carlisle back on the right track toward a winning season.
Dickinson with a huge first win of the season at McDaniel today. WR Craig Helfer with a nice day for the Red Devils. Close to 200 yds recieving I think. 41-16 was the final. Defense was great today as well. Hope this gets the Red Devils going. Good luck next week.

BT,
My heart goes out to your son, you and your family, a career ending injury being devastating.I was lucky, my kids knee injury/surgery didn't happen until game 9 of his sr year.....just the regular strains, sprains,
and dings until then. It hurt like hell so I can't imagine it happening earlier... the emotional pain was as bad
as the physical....good luck to your boy in the future...I pray he has as good a recovery as humanly possible.
One moment the world is peachy....the next its just the pits..
Muledaddy, Thats for the kind words. I know you and your son went through the same thing. The good news is the sun still comes up everyday and he is still getting a fine education. The bad news is that he didn't go out on his own terms. As we all know, especially in D3, the end of the line does eventually come. That being said, he is a better, more rounded person by having the opportunity of playing D3 football and for that we are gratefull.

I ran the pickems last year, but my son suffered a career ending injury and I have lost my luster for this season. I still love D3 football and the CC conference, but my heart is just not into it this year. Anyone want to step up to the plate for the pickems???

You mean like Nescac which limits it Football squad to 75 players or it's TIPS program on allowing a certain amount admissions for athletes? No, the CC does not have such limitations. Each school has their own admission standards. I am sure it is harder to get accepted to some of the schools than others in the CC, but most of the schools are pretty much in line with each other. Most of the time it comes down to Financial Aid and/or Academic Scholarships which does differ from school to school on attracting student athletes.

I know from the Football season that many of the CC teams did not join the ECAC for this academic year. There was discusion that this was done as a cost saving measure.

Yesterday's game was entertaining to say the least. In the second half, I looked up at the scoreboard and couldn't believe Powers had over 20 points(he had 8 at halftime). He carried the Bullets on his back in the second half. F&M would have won by double digits if they could have made their foul shots at the end. It will be interesting to see where they are placed. I also agree that Powers should have been credited with the bucket at the end. On a side note, the one thing I have noticed over the years going to watch games at Mayser, is the the local community really comes out to support the Dips. It is not uncommon to see many Senior citizens come out for the games. I haven't really seen that kind of support at the other CC venues. As a matter of fact, I was kind of disappointed with the student support from BOTH schools yesterday. I remember a few years ago when when the Dips beat the Bullets at Mayser in the finals, there was a tremendous amount of students, with great banter back and forth throughout the whole game.

CC Excellent post, that has been my experience as well, watching the CC teams play over the past few years. I would bet even Mount Union and Wisconsin Whitewater do not have rosters full of All State kids as well. It is amazing watching the development of skinny 18 year old kids who turn themselves into all CC type of players after a few years in college.

D3 is NOT D1. As I stated above, it's all about SIZE and SPEED. We had a kid at my son's High School who was 6'6" and 290lbs, made all conference, all area and all state. Signed with a major D1 school. You know what? He was as soft as could be on the field and I wouldn't have picked him for THIRD team all conference let alone First team all state. But he had potential, he Red Shirted a year, spent a lot of time in the weight room, they reshaped his body and now is a starter his Junior year. I think you will fine even at THE D3 LEVEL, all the acolades in the world mean absolutely ZIP when the kids report to camp in August. The upper classman laugh when Freshman start talking about All Conference and All State, Pat is right. It means absolutely nothing when practice begins. I have seen many All State selections ride the pine in the CC over the years.

I don't think All State is the right measuring stick. It's like comparing Apples to Oranges. A kid could play on a 4A school loaded with D1 kids and not even get a sniff at All State let alone all conference, yet another kid could play at a small school in a different state on a team that STINKS but because he is a big fish in a small pond that kid makes All State. My Daughter plays soccer at a D1 school. Last year at the start of the season there were players on her team who came in with all kinds of ALL STATE, ALL EVERYTHING labels and they did not see the light of day on the field. All State picks are purely subjective and in my experience watching High School teams, sometimes based purely on the size of the players and what level they are projected to play in college. Some of the most talented High School players that I have ever seen play over the years, were 5'7" 160lb linebackers if you get my drift.
