"PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2008) - The nationally ranked Plattsburgh State men's basketball team advanced to the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Tournament after a thrilling 83-77 overtime victory Saturday over a determined King's College squad before a sellout crowd of 1,000 at Memorial Hall."
A sellout crowd of 1,000? According to the D3hoops website, Amherst can hold 1800. Hasn't Amherst come pretty close to selling out the past couple sweet 16/elite 8's? Geographically I think its about even, Amherst and Brandeis would have to travel just as far to Rascal Platts, as Rascal Platts and John Richard Stockton would have to travel to Amherst/Brandeis. I think the kicker would have to be facilities, where Amherst and Brandeis have a clear edge capacity wise. What's the reasoning here? Anyone know?

I am really looking forward to the Amherst- Richard Stockton match up. Stockton is making RIC look like a 7th grade girls travel team. Creating turnovers, hitting shots with guys in their face, and incredibly scrappy. Amherst has struggled with teams from the NJCU in the past, and I could see it happening here. While Amherst is certainly the more disciplined team, Stockton will definitely look to make it ugly. Definitely one of the games to watch next weekend!

Oh wow, maybe I set a record or something then?
But in seriousness Pat, you really do a great job on this site. I know I bust you a little bit every now and then, but D3 hoops is fortunate to have you.

atn, you can give me as many -K as you want, what exactly is the difference between -21 K and -20K, or for that matter -289K? The reason my karma got so low in the first place is because i called out ALL MIGHTY KARMA GOD PATRICK COLEMAN, who struck vengeance in the hearts of all posters on D3 HOOPS by giving me many demerits!!!!!!! I think as long as you don't call out specific players, then I think we should be free to write pretty much what we want. Maybe to offset the "nastiness" of saying that Trinity choked again, I can write a positive thing about Trinity, lets see, how bout 'Trinity has a great campus with many friendly students, every time I step foot on it I get treated like a first time visitor on Sesame Street.'
Regardless, I'm extremely disappointed that this much talent finished with a first round loss to Coast Guard. Sorry, maybe I should have written it like that.

I'd put money that Trinity has more talented players than at least 4-5 of the teams that will be left in the sweet 16 this year, yet when was their last sweet 16? Back when the Ultimate Warrior was in the ring?

eclinchy,
I must say, thank you for all that you do for NESCAC basketball. There aren't many students out there who put the time and effort into writing about NESCAC hoops. It's tough enough to get students at the games, let alone show as much interest as you do. Maybe we could steal you and have you cover some games in the UAA?
I like Amherst by about 12-15 this weekend. Bowdoin is a very well coached team, but there is no possible way that Bowdoin's bigs have a chance against Jones, Hopkins etc... Fliegal vs. Hopkins/Jones??? PLEASE!!
Although Midd is extremely hot and Harris is back, I still like Trinity. RT3, Martin and co. are not going to lose on their "2nd" homecourt. Great first half, but Trinity will pull away in the end. Trinity by 7.

Thankfully Amherst has the updated live stats page, I haven't heard a score update from the announcers at all in the second half.
I must say I'm pretty shocked by the Bates/Bowdoin halftime score. Bowdoin must have made some major adjustments following their last two contests against Bates. Both teams are very well coached, but it looks like Bowdoin's experience really paid off now that its playoff time.

We all know what happens when one ASSumes, but lets assume that the favorites win out in the tournament, and it ends up being Amherst-Trinity in the finals, with Amherst pulling it out. Is it safe to say that Trinity will make the NCAA's with an appearance in the finals? How about Middlebury? (who was ranked 4th regionally at least last week. )

Anyone else tempted to just copy and paste an introspective ARTICLE (not press release) from ESPN.com, not state the author's name, try to make light of the situation by saying that it was free for the public to use without giving credit to anyone (while making a hilarious reference that since it was a 'press release' that it's free to post without giving any credit to the author?)
Oh, and lets not forget give 10000000's of negative karma points to anyone who calls you out for it? Seriously Pat, the fact that you take away "karma" points is hilarious. When I made my previous post, I was begging that you wouldn't take away karma points. Seriously. I woke up this morning, ate a bagel, and prayed, OH PLEASE DEAR GOD, PAT COLEMAN CAN DO ANYTHING EXCEPT TAKE AWAY MY KARMA POINTS! Maybe thats how they do it in dungeons and dragons, but this doesn't help your credibility.
It's pretty much like when your little kids, and you race one of your friends(lets call him Patrice) in a 100 foot race. You notice that after 50 feet Patrice is beating you pretty badly, but instead of finishing the race and admitting defeat, you stop short with a pulled hamstring and refuse to admit that you were beaten fair and square. Then when asked for a rematch, you laugh it off and tell everyone in your class that Patrice smells like fish(real life equivalent of you taking away karma points). Poor Patrice.

When someone plagiarizes, it needs to be brought to everyone's attention. If you were a college student, you would be suspended for a semester. Consider yourself lucky, stop going all "Big Brother" on everyone to save your behind, and admit when your wrong. Now hopefully everyone can move on to what's really important, and that's talking about the upcoming season....

I'll take Amherst by 71 in the opener, with none of their starters playing more than 20 mins each. Nevertheless, kudos to Hunter for not being afraid to schedule Amherst. I think that says alot about their program, especially considering that many teams would not even consider accepting such a daunting task. On other note, some info on FMU. While they are athletic and individually talented, they aren't as cohesive a unit as Amherst, which I would attribute to their youth. I'm pretty sure they will be made up of mostly sophomores and juniors next year (think of a much better version of Conn College). Their big men pound the offensive glass, but I think they will have trouble guarding Amherst when they spread the floor. Brandeis, if they play them again, will give Amherst a better game than FMU, but then again road trips can do some crazy things to teams.
