I understand that it shouldn't be something to get super excited about, but what I was saying is that it is a good step for Cornell, b/c even in past scrimmages teams they should have beat up on, they didn't do well against. They are getting to the point where they are playing how they should play. Which I think is a good step....

So Cornell had a scrimmage today against Eureka College, and things seemed to work good overall for the Rams. Some key plays and stats for the Rams:
On the first play, Hardman ran 50+ yards for a touchdown.
The teams Defense shut out the Red Devils during the half game timed scrimmage.
QB Battle:
Kobler looked good, he ran a option play for a 40yd+ TD until it was called back for illegal motion (caused by a freshman). Ran in for a late touchdown after a big pancake block by starting right guard Pilger.
Bush ran for a 95 yard touchdown, during situational play (started backed up at the Rams 5). Had a few bad throws, but overall good play.
The rams still have a few things to work out, but most of the impact freshman looked ready to go and the rams man handled Eureka.

Although the IIAC schools do have the flexibility to let lower academic students in, Cornell choses not to. Instead of dropping their standards for players, they keep them high. This insures that they are a high academic school. Also Cornell has been known to give good scholarships to all students, but the athletes at the schools are not getting any more financial aid than any other student. Both of these factors add into Cornell not getting as many high talent players.

I agree with Ash Park, Cornell will be winning more than just 2 this year. For what I have heard, they brought in a few freshman who will step on in, and do well...not to mention the commitment from the returners. I do hope Cornell can turn it around this year...atleast start to...

That is a good question AshPark, and I think there are many different things that will need to be looked into, if a rule such as this was implemented.

About the issue on transfering inside the IIAC, and making a sit out period. I believe that there should be a rule stating that players who transfer inside the IIAC should have to sit out atleast one game. Even if it is the D3 level, because the student made a commitment to the school and program, and they would not be able to leave all their problems in the real world. It is part of the learning experience.
If the player transfers from a school where they didn't play baseball to a school where they will try to play, there should be no punishment. Though if they were playing football at the first school, and plan to play at their new school they would have to miss a game. Potentially change the rule for the age of the student (freshman and sophomores 1 game; juniors and seniors 2).
Also, the amount of games pentalized should depend on the sport, because 1 game in football is more important than 1 game in baseball, so maybe make them sit out longer for baseball.
With this rule, I think there should be a way for a student to challenge the rule, for those cases where a student is changing schools for adademic or financial reasons. Maybe they must meet with IIAC officals, maybe just write a paper that must be approved, though I am not sure about this part.

Why is Central reporting earlier than any of the other schools? Do they have an earlier game or something?

I believe Cornell doesn't report until Saturday, and practice starts Sunday.

The only reason I didn't put Duchman from Wartburg on my list, is because Wartburg does a good job spreading the ball around, so no one player gets too big of stats.
Sounds like Coe really wasn't prepared to fill Suckow's spot along with the other recieivers...

Recieving Yards:
I do not know who the starters will be, but I believe who ever Luthers WRs are this year will again lead the conference in yards.
The next few WR will be in no order between McIntosh(Dubuque), Huisman (Central), who ever the 2 starters for BV and Simpson will be.
Also potentially Youngblood from Cornell could have somewhere around 500yds at the end of the season, but that depends on how much Cornell choses to throw this year...

In my opinion the #1 thing that can be said about Coach Dillon, is that he has changed the attitude at Cornell...and that is not just the team, it is the alumni, and the other students. Having only 1 winning season in 8 years, before he came in, that creates a very negative attitude in the players, and school body itself.
Coach Dillon changed that attitude into a positive one. All the players really began believing they could beat any team in the conference, which hasn't been the case in a long time. One of the changes which is happening on campus is that Cornell is putting together a pep band to play at football games, and potentially some basketball games. I know many of the players are looking forward to this, and it is just one way they are getting the students back to the games.
The Rams new strength coach is Jeremy Frey, he has helped with the players commitment in the offseason, and has made many of the players faster and stronger, below is Cornell's webpage on him.

As I understand it, Cornell's football team has had 100% commitment duing the 2nd semester, on rare occasions players missed, but it was usually due to illness or academics. Because Cornell gets a large percentage of their players out of state, not as many players would be able to stick around in Mt. Vernon. The question is how many players have been working during the summer. We will just have to wait and see this next year.
Also Warthog, no one has said "Cornell is going to be a force" most of the postings have said the Rams are going to be more competitive this year, and if you look back on last year compared to previous years it is very likely true. Last year the Rams were in many of the conference games, which could prove positive for this next year...

Well it is hard to say who will be the best QB but like Dutchfan said Jackson, Tekippe, and Connell are going to be fighting for the top spot.
Though Luther is going to put out a good QB...I do know they recurited a kid from a top highschool program in CO...and they are known to produce good football players and are all well coached, so he could step right in and be a very productive starter.
Cornell is definitly a more running/misdirection team, and depending on the WR and TE recruits they still may not have too many good players to throw to.
Loras has to get a passing attack first.
Simpson, may be a blackhorse b/c their QBs do have experience, so they could come in and be a top 5 passer...
Wartburg has potential, but thats all it is right now...
BV still needs help in the department, but if Hawkins (if thats who it is) steps up then he can be a force...
