AND someone dropped my karma...I hope this wasn't for my referance to Shepherd. It was meant no disrespect...actually, I am quite fond of maple syrup ;D

You can't worry about what happens to your Karma. If everybody did, there would be no inflammatory comments on here, and therefore a very boring board!

Let's cap off a great "Blue" weekend with a victory from the guys in the shade called "Honolulu"!
Two things: The new "process" rule stinks and why wasn't there a camera from the end zone that might have shown the Chicago runner stepped out on his looooonng touchdown run! HMMMMM ???

Having been a freshman at Alma that year, I recall with fairly good clarity the Dan Stolz led team. The coach was Bill Klenk and here is a link to the team photo.http://alma.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/p4045coll5&CISOPTR=10470&CISOBOX=1&REC=9

Because the names are not associated in the order of the pictures, Stolz(22) was supported offensively from Dave Froelich(34) and Jim Davidson(20). Overall, a very well balanced team.

And... I just saw the post-game interview with Jim Leland - WHAT A CLASS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even more amazing than Leland's comments, were those by Galaragga himself! That is one forgiving and humble man. I did hear on a news feed this morning that the Comish has the ability to overturn this.

Pat, I have to marvel at the number of your posts(over 25000). I am curious if you have a "9 to 5" job or do you solely monitor the d3 site joining in discussions and looking for problematic posts? Just doing some quick figuring at an average of 20 seconds a post, it would take about 35 weeks of 40 hour weeks to write and post that many! WOW, that is impressive!  Also, is anyone even close to your number of postings or your high karma rating?

I am a first time poster, but have been keeping up with your forum for about a year now.  I enjoy reading and share your enjoyment of small college basketball.  I am privileged to attend about 4-5 Hope games a year.  I am not a graduate of any MIAA school but simply enjoy watching good local basketball.

With attending the DeVos since it's opening, I have a question about the attendance reporting that I see on the stats every game.  Every year Hope reports a fieldhouse record for the attendance for the Hope-Calvin game.  This year reporting 3665 in attendance.  When I took the tour of Devos when it opened, our tour guide told us the hope was to have 3000 seats but the reality would be around 2800 after media rows etc. Well, I am uncertain where the difference is from.  I know there was not 600-800 people standing up top while the game saturday was going on.  Everyone was in their seats.

Here is the seating guide for the Devos: 3009 total seats available: according to Hopes website.

http://www.hope.edu/ticketoffice/diagrams.htm

Now understand my point of view...I am an admirer er of Hope College basketball and enjoy watching their games.  Other games I attended this year were Wheaton and Alma.  Wheaton reported 3033 and that place was no more than 2/3 full at best.  Then against Alma they reported 3230 and the endline bleachers were scattered at best...I just don't get it.  If anyone knows something I don't I would appreciate the info.

I understand that there is media, workers, etc... but I don't think employees go on the attendance report but media does.  Again, I love attending games and always will.  I think the Dew Crew and the Hope fans are the most loyal in the MIAA for sure.  I would not worry about such #'s, but when you hang banners in your gym about attendance I would want to make sure #'s aren't embellished.  Sorry if this hits people the wrong way with my 1st post, but I guess I'm wondering if someone knows something I dont.

It could very well be that there are a number of season ticket holders that for whatever reason don't make it to that particular game, but since the seats are paid for, they count them. This is also true, and much more evident in pro sports where the numbers always seem inflated. A more accurate number would be a gate count of those who actually enter the fieldhouse. I wouldn't be surprised if these numbers are kept, just not published.

One note of interest about ODU (heard on the Hope sports reports this morning) - they are a provisional NCAA DII school, and will be a member of the GLIAC.

This is amazing when one considers that the enrollment of GBC is only 190 students!

HUH?????

Sorry, got my posts confused!

Calvin's roster is posted Monday afternoon, and Hope is on their 4th day of 5 tryouts?  Early bird catches the worm, or the MIAA trophy?
I think the fact that Hope was on Fall break this past weekend might have been part of the reason why GVW didn't start tryouts until Monday. I know it was appreciated to have the guys home with their families for at least a few days of the break. The rosters of both teams will probably be announced Saturday.

How's it going in Holland? :D

Today is the 3rd of 6 tryout days for the Dutchmen. There are about 40 guys trying out of which I hear close to half are freshmen. Should be interesting, but I don't look for 4 frosh to make the Varsity as is the case with the Knights. I do see the captains have been announced and posted on the Hope bball site, Bowser, Bunn and Nelis.

Hope is the defending league tournament champs, and they return 4 starters, but the starter they lose ,Reimink, who was the MIAA league MVP last season.

Hope should have a little deeper bench this upcoming season imo (has an awesome JV team last season), so they should do nothing but improve throughout the season, but I think Calvin will do nothing but improve throughout the season also, as they will have some good young talent that can contribute on varsity.

I have two Calvin questions to throw out; is Mantel the concensus preseason pick for MVP and who off last year's  JV will make this year's Varsity? The only player that really stands out in my memory is a dark haired player that shot very well(maybe Matt Capel?).

any word on freshmen/transfers enrolled in MIAA?  Any word how long Bunn's injury will keep him out?

Just heard that he broke his arm, but will not affect the season. Also heard that Howenstein(sp?) is out for the season after re-injuring his knee during re-hab.

that would be to bad for hope but good for eric  is going to be a good coach

Eric is already a great coach. Many players have benefited immensely from his tutelage within the Hope program. I am sure hope1 meant that, but make it clear, he has already helped many a player!

I now have heard that Ellsworth's Tyler Ingalls will be going to Hope. Maybe Steve Bell can give his opinion of Tyler's abilities. I do remember his name on the All Area Team for North Western Michigan, and on Bell's 4th or 5th team Class D.
