Impressive OB, I once thought that I was a SCIAC whiz, but you are pretty darn knowledgeable.  Your researching skills are unmatched.

I'll go back to watching Fox News and drinking my double malt scotch as my night cap.

Catch you gents tomorrow.

By the way, I was 4 for 4 in my picks this past weekend.  I'll try and handicap this weekends.  Maybe I'll get lucky again.  Not that luck had anything to do with it, I picked favorites at home.   ;)

Either way, Whittier lost.  This week they should have an easier time against another team of their caliber.

As for teams winning four straight titles, Whittier did it twice.  The last time they did it, Godfrey was their coach.

At least the Poets can relish in their past history.  They are trying to rebuild, but it seems its always a struggle.

On a side note, Oxy should have a great weekend keeping the drum against the Hens.

OB - that is hilarious about the Bulldogs having to walk back if they lost.  Sad but true.

As for this upcoming weekend picks:

Oxy, Redlands, Chapman, and Cal Lu win.  Should be a cake walk for all home teams.

What a game, let's see if the Bulldogs can pull it off.  I'm still in shock that Stanford beat SC at home, wow.

Good job with the play by play. Keep us posted.

Good job Danny Jones!  Huge win.  Speaking of big wins, how about Willamette over Linfield.  I'm sure Coach Speckman and the Bearcat faithful are thrilled about that outcome.

Quick picks: Oxy wins, Poets win, and finally Redlands beats Chapman.

I think the Poets are going to upset the Loggers this Saturday.  They met Carthage' challenge last week.  Looks like the Poets have something to prove.

I'll root for the "Mighty Poets" this week.  Next week my Sagehens get a crack at them.

My predictions to make this fun are as follows:

Oxy over Menlo. (Easily)
Redlands over Haskell Indian Casino.
Whitworth over ULV. (I hope I'm wrong with this one.)
Whittier over Carthage (Bold last minute pick)
Willamette over Cal Lu (Close game, Speckman is a great coach)
Pomona over Lewis & Clark (Go Sagehens!)
Claremont over UPS (A pick 'em really)

UW-LaCrosse over APU.

Let's see how it goes.  Good luck everyone! Enjoy your games.

I'll be at the Whittier vs. Carthage game this weekend.  Should be a good game.  Considering last years game, I don't think the Poets have enough to beat Carthage.  However, it should give this young Poet team some experience to be competative in SCIAC games.

Impressive job done by the Bulldogs.  As for the rest of the SCIAC winners, kudos.

The Loggers will be a very difficult opponent for the Leos.  I wish them the best, but I don't think they can beat UPS.

Oxy will roll in an easy win against the Pioneers.

I think Redlands has more than just a shot against Whitworth.  I hope the Bulldogs take it to the them.

I wish the SCIAC schools the best against the NWC.

As for the Chapman game, FTP, I hope you enjoy that one.  I'll be there for that game.  Owens should have those guys ready for Menlo.  The Oaks haven't seemed as impressive as they were in previous years with Nate Jackson and company.  Boy, could that guy play.

Carthage will be a very difficult opponent for the Poets.  They outmatched them last year in Wisconsin.  I don't expect any different against a very slim Whittier defense.

It would be nice to see a different result, but it becomes difficult to rely on just hopes.

Good Luck to Danny Jones! He did a good job at Cal Lu, hopefully he'll do the same for the Warhawks.

As for Fear the Poets question, Whittier produced many NFL players as did other teams in the conference in the late 1950's and 60's.  Chuck McMurtry comes to mind. Others may have been less notable.  He was a heck of a lineman.  He did a good job for the Raiders.

Back in those days, professional sports were a different animal than today.

Great history for the schools involved.

That will indeed be a good game.  The Battle of the Shoes is always a fun rivalry to watch.  However, the Poets haven't won in six years.  It'd be interesting to see them win them back and add some more excitement to the rivalry.  Who knows until gameday, but the Poets will play the Tigers at home this year.

As to another Oxy rivalry, perhaps Pomona can finally get the Drum back. It's been just as long.

Well, I hope Oxy is as competative as they were these past three years.  I enoyed watching them play with Collins at the helm.  However, times change so we'll see how they do this upcoming season with many questions to be answered.  I think for the first time in a couple years, the SCIAC is up for grabs.  It's exciting! Can't wait for Saturdays.

I'll be at the APU vs. USD game this Saturday.  The Cougs always have some good football to exhibit.

FTP, it's great to see your excitement in anticipation of Poet football this fall. How do you think they'll do, any insights from camp?
