Does anyone know how to get into the summer league that some of the SLIAC schools participate in? The Greenville guys are trying to look into it, but need a bit more info?

Did Greenville ever make a run or was it a blow out?
Fontbonne and Greenville will be a doozy. In a perfect world both teams will be playing at 100% confidence and potential. I think one team runs away from the other but I'll save that for later.
Juniormint---
The first half of the game was close and the lead went back and forth with Maryville pulling ahead at the end of the half. The second half started poorly for the Panthers and Maryville held a 20pt lead for most of the rest of the half. Near the end Greenville started to pull back, but the last 2 mins of the game is a little too late.
Overall, Greenville had really poor shooting throughout the game and a real lack of any rebounding.
Just want to tag along and congratulate LaPhonso Ellis for hitting his 1000th point.

That was Saturday.....today is Wednesday!!!!!!
we could say that about alot of teams that just lost Saturday in unispired performances that they would play uninspired today......
which would be false
I would just make sure Maryville is ready

I think Maryville gets a win over an uninspired Greenville team tonight.
Juniormint- I would have to completely disagree with you!!!! Greenville is hungry to stay in the top 3 in sliac standings and knows this is a huge game. on top of that the first game greenville played against maryville was a dismal performance on greenville's part. and i hate to say this because i have a lot of repect for coach barber, but a poor poor coaching performance for him. i would look for Greenville to be a completely different team than Maryville saw the first time, especially since greenville is no longer trying to rotate in 20 ppl a game.
SO, i LOOK forward to a Greenville win tonight!!!!

February 11, 2009, 12:09:09 AMQuoteGreenville's Laphonso Ellis - well maybe - but in the lone Gville game I saw, he disappeared for a whole half after a super first half.Hopefan--I believe the 2nd half of the game you saw Ellis did have a great game and due to lack of touches from his teammate disappeared the second half. But, continued to give out assists and rebound. Wasn't so much that Ellis wasn't in the game performing, but more so a team that wouldn't pass him the ball when he had opportunities. The times he got the ball he was creating opportunities for the team.
Anyways, HUGE game for Gville tomorrow and a must win!!!
Sidenote- Ellis is 7points away from his 1000th point, wanted to wish him luck for such a big milestone.

Great game yesterday by the Greenville Panthers!!!!! And they moved up in the standings right behind Westminister. LaPhonso Ellis had a big game and put up 20. And Greenville rotated into the lineup two transfers, AJ Brooks and Coleman Chambly, for their first varsity game. Brooks had a big opening performance teaming up with Ellis to score his first 8 varsity points in 4 minutes in the first half to help pick up the momentum and lead the panthers into the locker room up after the 1st half. The 2nd half was back and forth. Even when Fontbonne was up they just couldn't seem to stay constant and hold the lead. Despite a scare in the last couple of minutes with 2 turn overs and a wierd foul called on a 3pt shot Greenville pulled out with the win!!!
This game was back and forth and kept the crowd on their toes, a great beginning for the Panthers in 2009!!! So, all I can say is congrats to my Panthers, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season will bring. Is it to early to look forward to a Conference Championship!!!!

disappointing performance from Greenville - not what a contending team in the SLIAC would hope to accomplish against a team with the worst record in D3 last year..... maybe Rockford got better quickly??? I hope.
Hopefan, where you at the game?

Heartbreaker out of Greenville.....
LaPhonso Ellis had a huge game leading the team with 18pts and 8 rebounds, despite being sick. He really is a huge player for Greenville, and I know there were doubts about his height earlier on the board, but in my opinion he has not only proven them wrong but shown he can play with anyone. Simmons played with alot of heart and I agree with Panther that he has gotten back into the swing of the game and out of his slump. Ben Hensold was hot at the 3pt line hitting 4-7 and coming up with 12 pts for the Panthers. Ben Cochran continued to play as well as he usually does adding 10pts and playing some good D and really directing the ball. He has matured alot already this season with his decision making and I can only see good things to come out of him. Terrance Cosby had a huge first half. He was a key player coming off the bench and immediately made his presence noticed. He came in and hit a quick 6 or 7 and played good D. I don't think he got as much playing time in the second half as he deserved and probably could have made a bigger impact if given the oppurtunity. But, he ended the game with 9pts.
Greenville really has matured over the season and tonight was a tough loss for them. They had a lot of momentum going in tonight and a huge crowd come out to support them leading their voices and cheers constantly throughout the game.
*Kudos goes to PantherPride for igniting school spirit from 2000 miles away!*
Finally, Fontbonne deserves some credit. They were the favorite coming into tonights game and were down at half-time. They managed to play through all the fans and showed their maturity and skill. Fogerty, Branch, and Storandt had huge nights. Fogerty seemed unstoppable. Almost could have been a heart-breaker for Fontbonne who had the chance to win in regulation, but missed 2 free throws with mere seconds left in the game putting it into over-time.
Good, hard fought game and it was definetly an awesome game to watch and be a part of. My heart broke for my Panthers because I think I as well as most of the fans wanted the win just as bad as the players.

Panther just to give you an update you now have 126 confirmed students going and that doesn't even take into consideration the parents, friends, and family coming in for the game. And the GC guys passed out flyers today to advertise the game. Needless to say the guys are trying to go in with all the momentum to fuel an upset. And with the recent wins and hopefully a good practice tonight, they will have done everything they can to prepare!
So look out Fontbonne because I am feeling the upset coming!!!!

As mentioned earlier, Saturday's schedule is rather anti-climactic after the crucial games that were played this past Wednesday - but no team can afford to assume victory. We are overdue for an upset!!
Westmin SHOULD win at Greenville.
Greenville 76 Westminister 73
Greenville pulled out the win yesterday despite what should have happened! LaPhonso Ellis had a big game with 21 points, I think his first 20pt game for this season. He played solid all-around and had one of his best games all season. Followed by freshman Ben Cochran who hit a crucial 3 from way out near the end of the game to fuel the Greenville momentum. Chris Simmons and Ben Hensold also had big games and were key to the win.
Greenville did have huge fan support and had the crowd on their feet cheering at the end of the game!
But, overall a much different Greenville team came to play on Saturday then in the past week. The guys came out ready and took the lead early instead of like in the Eureka game and many past games were they have been down 10 in the first 10 minutes and had to fight just to stay in the game. It seemed like there wasn't as much frustration within the team and they played the best I have seen them play as a team all season long. Hopefully this will carry into their next 2 home games: a non-conference game against St Louis Christian and another big home game Wednesday against #2 ranked Fontbonne.

y_jack had a nice post and it was nice to see the compliments to the greenville boys despite their loss.
webster is a nice team and with their record improving to 5-0 in conference will surely look to be a team to beat. it will be a good game when webster plays westminister.
But, back to my Greenville Panthers, they played a game that had some coaching errors in my opinion and lost one of their key players at the end of the game due to a thumb injury. Coach Barber took out all of his key starting players with 16mins left in the 2nd half and they were down 20. Being a come from behind team this should have been prime time for his starters. On top of that like y_jack said shots just weren't falling and the rebounding was sorely lacking. A few too many turnovers and you end up with a score like tonight.
Webster has a good team and I would like to see them keep up their play. Hopefully, the next match up will be a bit closer though.

Just like to put my 2 cents out there and say look for a big game from the Greenville Panthers. Coming off a tough loss last week from Maryville and an easy win against Blackburn they are looking to keep the wins going.
Hopefully, they will come out hard in the first half and get into the swing of things early instead of waiting until the 2nd half like in the Maryville game.
Ellis and Cochran (despite fouling out) both had good games against Blackburn and consistently perform and put up the points. Just need the rest of the guys to match the intensity and play good DEFENSE which will probably be a key, mainly the rebounding.
So, I am going to have to go with the upset saying Greenville will beat Webster in a close game.

I am not saying that you have to agree with him, but for Pete's sake, quit being so damn insensitive.
Bunchtime~ i am pretty sure you have the wrong word insensitive means that you do not show feeling or do things without regard to others
That being said I am with Panther on this. I simply am supporting Phonso knowing how things like that come off.
It should be left at the fact that he is a great ball player and a key contributor to the Greenville basketball team.
It is still unseen how is height will affect him or the game, but I will tell you this, a height difference will be only that. And I can almost guarantee that coming up against those taller guys he will perform just as well and still be as effective of a player for his team.

Who's trying to "poke fun" at him or is "counting him out"? For crying out loud, all I said was that it's a shame that he doesn't have his dad's size. It's hardly a comment upon his basketball abilities at all. The D3 world is full of great players who are 6'3 or smaller.
Grow a thicker skin, Pride, and stop trying to interpret every post as a shot at your alma mater.
First, I think it is unnecessary to make any kind of comment about someone's height and weight!
Pride made the point to show one that despite his height he was still doing more than his share of contributing, but at the same time playin the position he is he is going to be at a disadvantage when matched with bigger teams.
Neither point had anything to do with his dad! So, if we are in the SLIAC chatroom why don't we talk about the players, teams, and coaches that are IN THE SLIAC! Not there parents or their DNA which I am pretty sure you, Sager, know absolutely nothing about, so you have no right commenting on.
And if all you were trying to say was that it was a shame he didn't have the height and size of his dad, then say that.
Finally, LaPhonso Ellis is a great contribution to the Greenville Panthers. Not only does he hold his own on the court, he is also a key player off the court in keeping his team motivated and positive.
To get back to basketball.....
Greenville is heading into the Christmas break to get themselves together and get ready for Harris Stowe who has a record of 4-7. It should be a good match up for the guys and a good test before getting back into their next conference game with MacMurray.

Matt has been at practices for about a week. He was playing soccer for GC and they just finished up at nationals. He hasn't been played in a game yet and there is no official word about whether he will be on Varsity or JV.
When I find out more, I will let you know.
