Messages - Knight In The Stan

If you start before the 18th, it counts as one of your weeks of activity for the season. Teams are only allowed so many (not sure of the exact number) weeks of basketball activity during the playing season. Taking a week off in December (with no organized basketball activity) offsets the extra week you added to your time by starting 'early'.

BAM! NAILED IT!!

Calvin started practice this morning 1200am, for they will be taking a week off over Christmas break this year.

Thanks for the information and support. D3hoops/boards is a serious bright spot in my day. I don't care how many times SAC argues with somebody about their maturity level and false speculations   :D

Once again I am deployed, however this time I may have internet to stream some of the Calvin games. Does anyone know if any other MIAA schools have also installed video streaming capabilities?

So did anyone formulate recruiting classes for Calvin and Hope yet? I remember last year that someone made a list of all commitments and transfers, just curious if anyone knew.

Anybody made it out to the last few weeks of summer ball?

So what happens if Matt Neil doesn't bring a National Championship to Hope in five years? I mean wouldn't that have been the objective behind a national search, to get a guy who can bring you home a banner? If Hope thought that Matt Neil was the guy all along then they wasted a lot of time.

I don't see how someone who has been a part of your program for 30 years, who supposedly ran the show as much or if not more than GVW is going to get you that banner.

Hope lost out on BVH, but congrats to Buena Vista for keeping him  :)

Sure hope Izzo stays put and the Izzone can continue to live on.

Sometimes my mind races when I'm trying to fall asleep and I came up with this last night: If Izzo leaves then number one on the list would probably be Tom Crean. Assuming he becomes MSU's next coach, the Izzone could then become "The Crean and White". Pretty good, right? ;D

I was thinking more along the lines of Brian Gregory of Dayton, former assistant at MSU.

Crean was also an MSU assistant, wasn't he?

YOU WIN!!

Crean was born and raised in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where he played basketball for four years. According to Crean, "I didn't play a lot, but I knew I wanted to coach."[1] While a student at Central Michigan University, Crean was an assistant coach at Mount Pleasant High School for five seasons,[2] and at Alma College. Crean received his bachelor's degree in parks and recreation from Central Michigan in 1989.[1] Crean is married to Joani Harbaugh, who he met through a mutual friend at a gym where she was working as an aerobics instructor.[3] Her father, Jack Harbaugh, was the head football coach at Western Kentucky University at the time Crean was an assistant basketball coach. She is also the sister of Stanford head football coach Jim Harbaugh (a former quarterback at both the University of Michigan and in the NFL), and Baltimore Ravens head football coach John Harbaugh. Crean and his wife have three children: Megan, Riley, and Ainsley.[4]

Crean was hired by then head coach Jud Heathcote as a graduate assistant coach at Michigan State University during the 1989-1990 season, at the behest of then assistant coach Tom Izzo, whom Crean had befriended on the summer camp circuit.[5] He was also a scout for two years, earning the trust of recruiting guru Bob Gibbons.[3] That season the Spartans won the Big Ten title and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.[2]

Oh I wasn't inferring that you were, its just something I through together quick off the top of my head. Just sounds like a pretty powerful athletic conference. Calvin of course missing the ultimate man sport...

I've always thought the GLCA would make a nice athletic conference.  Not the strongest from a competition standpoint.

Albion
Allegheny
Antioch (no athletics)
Denison
DePauw
Earlham
Hope
Kalamazoo
Kenyon
Oberlin
Ohio Wesleyan
Wabash
Wooster

Once upon a time, this was part of one of the world famous Holland rumors.

Thats fine, then I make the IIMO:

Adrian
Aurora
Calvin
U of Chicago
Defiance
Illinois Wesleyan
John Carrol
Ohio Northern
Trine
Wheaton

"Calvin posters would have been calling for the MIAA the day after to reverse the charging call against Veldhouse".

I can't believe you brought that up, I am still hurting from that one.

Michael Fabiyi from Gary IN West Side HS is coming to Calvin next year. A 6-3 guard was being recruited by Ivy League schools such as Cornell, Penn, and Columbia. Saw a couple videos of him and he appears to be extremely athletic and a really solid defender.

Here is a really nice article on him

"What, no ham buns?"

We reserve ham buns for special occasions such as:

Family Reunions
Graduation's
Youth Group
Christmas leftovers
Easter leftovers
Wedding Receptions in the CRC basement
Christian School Fundraisers(Unity still is looking for donations...)
Funerals

So I'm basically saying that we step it up to high class on Sunday afternoon's.  ;)
