Quote from: hazzben on December 20, 2024, 11:32:39 AMJung is officially committed to Wisconsin. He also had visits lined up at Minnesota and Northwestern (older Bro's former coach at NDSU is at the latter). Hope he balls out and makes the leap. Twitter comments showing the ignorance of quality D3 talent that is out there.

On another note, ref in Sus game apologized to the Bethel AD after seeing the replay of the final play. FWIW

Safe money in these semifinal games feels like NCC vs. Mount. JHU D could make it interesting. I don't think Sus has enough on D to hang with NCC. And if you get after their QB, his accuracy takes a nose dive. Hoping we get some competitive games.
Apologized for calling a hold? Or for saying the game was over?

Quote from: sfury on December 14, 2024, 03:38:07 PMAsked my uncle, who's a football official. I pointed out the jersey tug. His take, take it as you will:

"I saw that in the video. To me that's not enough for a flag because it didn't really impede the D end."
Did you show him the false start? I'm still trying to figure that one out. Seemed clear the defense came across the line and then the lineman moved.

You obviously didn't see the St John's game last week. In college, if the DLine enters the neutral zone and the OL jumps, its a false start on the offense. Different rule in the NFL (would be a defensive penalty). 77 on Bethel should not have moved and if you snap the ball its a free play and offsides.

I did see it. It was explained then that the player directly opposite the defensive player needs to move.

In the SJU game, it was a guard on the other side of the line.

In this game it was the tackle responsible for blocking the defender.

Maybe I misunderstood the college rule.

My other thought was he reacted too late and the defender was no longer in the neutral zone.

Yeah, that was my take. That's why I assumed they called it before that on the tackle.

I mean, the RB uniform tug looks bad when zoomed in and screenshot. But you could barely see it in real time because it was so quick.

Quote from: BiggieSmalls on December 14, 2024, 02:56:14 PMI believe the hold was on the RB who was helping with the RT. He grabbed jersey of DE. Probably didn't need to as that DE was not likely to make a tackle on QB by his release.
I thought they called it on the tackle before the RB engaged. But who knows.

And I thought the game could end on an offensive penalty. No?

Quote from: Ice Bear on December 14, 2024, 02:44:55 PMHow the ****, IMHO, do you call a ****ing hold at the LOS, on the last play of the game? Did I see that right?
Blew two calls that cost bethel the game.

I rewatched the false start. Not sure how that's on bethel.

The hold seemed questionable, too.

Quote from: SJU13 on December 09, 2024, 01:10:10 PMThere's no video replay outside of targeting, right? Seems like that would be a good upgrade for the playoffs. I imagine there are a lot of great plays that go the wrong way each year.

From what I gathered we had officials from the MWC and the NACC for our games. The field judge looked to have rolled an ankle resulting in the crew being down a ref for a bit against SUS. There felt like a lot of unnecessary jawing between teams in both games that probably could've warranted an unsportsmanlike or two. Maybe I'm soft or understand after a certain point we're likely gonna have enough and do something stupid (like push the QB down after he's thrown the ball). The lengthy explanation of the false start was interesting. Would've like to see video of the hit in the middle of the field that popped the SJU player. Definitely a danger throw, but hit also looked high. All equal in gamesmanship though with the ref getting after the audio crew for playing music after the offense got set on the line.

The false start penalty was the correct call. But that's a stupid rule in my opinion.

If the defense jumps offside and causes anyone on the offense to move, it should be a penalty on the defense.

Here's an image of it from the broadcast.

Quote from: sfury on December 09, 2024, 10:31:00 AMFor those who watched the stream, was there a good angle on the Mendez play in first quarter? Ruled incomplete, led to field goal. The guy who covered the game for Sas said his foot was in, should have been TD. Obviously impossible to know how game goes and you can't just say those four points mean Johnnies win (okay, I do think that), but would have been nice to go up 7-0.

I was thinking it's cool and fitting for him that Syverson literally ended his career with a TD pass. Final snap of his Johnnie career and he fires a strike to tie it up. Too bad he didn't get another shot at it.

But as always it was fun following the team and it was a fantastic season, even if it ended one/two/three weeks earlier than we would have liked.

And this year I saw three home games, surpassing the number of home games I'd seen from 1997-2023. Was great meeting up with old roomies and friends and again being able to watch the Johnnies win in the Natural Bowl (I'll still call it that since there's a dancing squirrel on the scoreboard and squirrels are part of Mother Nature). A few people on the board know we bought a house in Minnesota this summer so I'm now splitting time between my home state and New York City. In the coming years I look forward to seeing more games in person and also connecting with a lot more of the folks from the board.

Great season, Johnnies. And good luck, Bethel. Silver lining for us disappointed Johnnie fans: I'm pretty sure if Bethel wins the title, Johnnies will be first team in D3 history to be 2-0 in a season against the national champs.  8-)

It looked like a catch on the stream - looked like his foot was in.

But it was on the far end of the field from the camera, so far from definitive.

Susquehanna RB was also down on that one TD run.

And I'd love to see a replay of that  Syverson fumble from a different angle. Looked like he had simultaneous possession when they hit the ground. Defender then rolled over and had the ball.

The ref right there did not seem definitive in his ruling at all.

Syverson didn't practice all week with a sore shoulder?

He played well, but weird you'd call nearly 50 passes for a guy with a sore shoulder.

That third and 25 was the back breaker.
