From everything I've read in the statistics and on these boards, the only thing I am concerned about regarding the Bearcats is their big play ability. Now could that quick strike ability alone win the game for them?

It has...over and over. It is not something that they just get "lucky" at. It's something they practice and count on. With that said, IMHO I think this is going to be a great game and like last week, it should come down to who can hold on to the rock and play error free?

Nope, it says my browser isn't supported or something like that.  I have both Firefox & Internet Explorer -- should work, right?

Same here, it has always worked before but not today.

Congratulations OXY on a great season! Work hard and come back next year. WU, best of luck and bring it all home! Exciting game in which turnovers made a big difference. WU is a great team and I will be rooting for them. Beautiful day in Salem, hospitable fans and hard hitting football.

(OB, give us the breakdown) ;D

Congrats to Willamette on a great win. Closely matched teams where turnovers made the difference. Enjoyed a great afternoon in Salem and am proud of an Oxy team that refused to quit and fought to the very end, hence the wild last two minutes. Tigers, keep your head up, work hard and come back next year and Willamette, finish this in Salem (VA) and show the country who the west is! Good Luck!

(I will rely on OB for the in depth breakdown) :D

Is there anyway those who don't live in Salem can get advanced tickets.

No, I called and tried, cash or check only when you get there. :'(

....actually I'm getting a little bored not being in the playoffs for the last 3 years.....oh, well. OK....how about this.....I won the pick'em this year for NWC.....I'm going to predict that Linfield will be in the playoffs next year..... ;)  What do you guys think!

Yeah -- I think if Linfield had beat Hardin Simmons we'd be having different discussions.  But, what do I know?  I thought Linfield would beat WOU!

It would be great if next year we could have at least 2 teams from the NWC & the SCIAC in the playoffs.  At least it would be interesting in the real West.

Two from each, that is.

NCAA would love that......Then they wouldn't have to fly anyone anywhere, first round;)

CalCat,

Don't let OxyBob see that list.   ;)

OxyBob would point out Occidental's strength was hurt by not having to play Occidental  ;D

Well thank god for Principia and the boost in OW's  ;) (sorry FTP)

Oxy's special teams department is run by Widolff himself who does a superb job. Not to mention that the tigers have one of the best punters in the nation in Alex Groh. I wouldn't count on Willamette out performing oxy on the Special teams department.
Looking at the stats it would appear that Oxy has a better punter (though Willamette's is pretty good, too) and that Willamette has done better with returns.  I know Willamette has blocked some kicks as well but am not sure what kind of pressure Oxy gets on kickers.....I'd guess that special teams will be solid on both sides.

As easy as it is to say and difficult to do.......fundamentals and mistakes. Both teams are well coached and have solid fronts.
Breaking down, tackling and ball security will be the deciding factors. Both teams have high scoring potential and can play defense. Who will make the least amount of mistakes??

Whew,

Just back from the long trip to SO Cal and wanted to say Great Job on the season, OXY, and can't wait till Salem. (Oregon first)  I am very proud of them and what they have accomplished. Work hard so you can show the boys in Willamette and the NWC what SCIAC is about!

Nice to meet FTP and DAW at Patterson! Keep LR's spirits up and track and field is close! With support from parents like you, he will always be fine.

Anyone know the tailgate /parking lot situation at Chapman?

The Leos season finale is there this Saturday night and me and some buddies were considering partaking in some pre-game festivities. Thanks

2-6,

My suggestion would be to go to parking garage that is just west of the University entrance. We had a nice little ditty up on the top level last year. Its a nice veiw and the security guards are no problem.

sincerely,

1-7

FTP,

You're funny ;D
I will look for the oversized #63 jerseys this weekend and say hi.

OK....now I'm confused...which is it!

From the Herald newspaper:

Sparks Stadium is currently in the process of receiving much needed renovations that will transform the athletic facility into one of the crowning jewels of the Puget Sound region.

The Puyallup School District School Board approved a measure in December 2007 granting the implementation of new FieldTurf on the football/soccer field, refurbishing of the track, installation of a new sound system and the construction of a new scoreboard. The project is expected to be completed by the second week of August, before the start of fall sports practices. Work began on the project on June 2.

Puyallup School District Athletic Director Rick Wells said the entire scope of the project is estimated to cost between $1.4 and $1.6 million dollars. He is especially excited about the new FieldTurf slated to be installed on the main field.

“It’s been a two year process. We informed the school board that renovations were needed a few years ago. We’ve worked with all the football and soccer coaches and building athletic directors in the district to see what kind of surface we were looking for,” Wells said. “We toured a multitude of other facilities in the area. It was a collaboration of all the coaches in the district and the final choice was Field Turf. The durability of the stuff is evolutionary.”

The new FieldTurf will replace Astroturf that was installed in 1997. A new playing surface was long overdue, Wells said.

“Astroturf only has a 10 year life-span,” Wells said. “The fibers were decreasing and when that happens the threads get thinner and the seams begin to split. From the stands the astroturf looks great but when you get on the field the height of the turf was pretty small. It was losing its nap height. After years of wear and tear that tends to happen.”

I know, I know.....I learned a valuable lesson, thank you.

SCIAC Fan:

OB is back on the board, there's been no sniping between OB and SD . . . is there some good that you thought would come on the board and flaming Snoop?  The thing is ready to die down, stirring the ashes does no one any good and doesn't add value the discussion. So I would respectfully request that you let sleeping dogs lie.

+K (if I could)

Sparks has Field Turf...why is the SCIAC guy positing incorrect information on the NWC board about a stadium he clearly doesn't know a whole lot about?
Sorry, I live up here and my son's lacrosse team played there last year and it was the old carpet. I was told by the coaches this year that it is still the same. If it was replaced, my bad.
