Wally Wabash

I consider you the expert not only on Dlll, but certainly the NCAC. What the hell happened to Witt?
I thought, like most people, that Witt would play Mount in our bracket in round 3. I was really shocked. A storied program getting beaten by "Frostburg State who?"
Would love to hear your always educated thoughts. Thanks!

I unfortunately feel the NCAC was down this year and playing weak teams in a majority of your games does not prepare anyone for NCAA play!

I heard rumors that the baskets are ten feet two inches tall and the free throw line is really 16 feet from the basket. The rims are anti-dunk and will project a player into the ceiling if they try to hang on the rim. Then again, it could all just be rumors.

I highly doubt anyone is ducking the Pioneers.

In the last five seasons Marietta is 6- 6 against NCAC teams. They are 4-0 against Denison who appeared in their Marietta Shrine Classic this year but was not scheduled by Marietta who I assume did the scheduling for their own tournament. They are 2-1 against Witt and 0-2 against Wooster and OWU. Other than Denison, I see no need for anyone in the NCAC to "duck" them.

In the NCAC it is Selby Stadium.

The Terriers take on OWU at home in a night game this week!

The Hiram Alum in me sees this one being close, but I should probably reserve opinions of that nature for the time being. I was in Gambier for the second half of the game on Saturday (As I arrived significantly behind schedule because I thought the game started at 1 like most conference games). What I saw was Kenyon play a more crisply executed football game than Hiram, which was unfortunate because Hiram was in the game until the last minute, with the final ending up 20-16. To be completely honest, I do not want to recap the game instead I'd rather focus on this week's game against the Bishops. But first, I have to acknowledge the play of SR QB George Blake. He has done an absolutely outstanding job of filling the void Partridge's injury left, and his leadership has become visible. From what I had heard, he had spent the first few years struggling to fully adapt himself into any scheme that the OC at the time provided, and I do believe he has done a great job this year in Stamford's offense.

The interesting part of this game for me will be OWU's ability or inability to attack the perimeter. Hiram's CB play this year has been outstanding, and is definitely something the Terriers can look forward to building on, as both CB's are sophomores. I know Espinosa is more than capable to get the ball down the field. But, I do believe that our cornerbacks will restrict his options in ways that he would only see from a handful of schools in the conference (one of which he saw last week). Hiram has to make sure that this game does not turn into a track meet, as I do not think that we would be able to beat OWU in that sort of game. I really hope that we are able to set the tempo of the game while maintaining the attitude of "playing to win" instead of "playing to keep it close".

I really do believe that this year's Terriers fear no opponent in the conference, which will help in this game but only take them so far. If they can apply consistent pressure to Espinosa and force him into deeper drops, I believe our defense can keep the high powered OWU offense in check... I use that term relatively. Also, I do think Simpson will be open for a few big plays this week, and if Blake can connect deep a few times I believe we'll be in business and open to more run/ quick pass options; without the deep threat I do not see us being able to move the ball as easily.

OWU has a terrific football team, but I do believe this game will be a good one, folks.

Great to see Hiram folks excited to play OWU this week. Unfortunately the game is in two weeks.

Highlights from OWU/Wabash (with the bump at 1:02 making me laugh out loud at my desk):

Loved the shot at 1:01 also.

The Tampa Tribune recently ran a nice article on Keith Hopkins. It sounds like that young man has met some big challenges head-on and in the process has demonstrated character beyond his years. I wish him all the best in Springfield.

So when did Division III prospects start signing anything other than a tuition deposit form?

Excuse 514 from the lil giants  side! I give up! His worst game because the OWU defense knocked Blanks out of the game! The great WC Defense gave Blanks twice his per game average! No wonder you think he is so good! Good luck to both sides and may everyone stay healthy.

Is Kalkstein the guy OWU pounded on Saturday?

Nike- "I would remind us all regarding Espinosa, that the 400+ yards he threw for against CM this past Saturday would be a lot of yardage "even in a scrimmage".

I think the 6,745 yards he has thrown for in almost three seasons probably doesn't count much either because only two of those games came against the  Lil Giants. We all KNOW the other teams are far inferior pass defenses to what they bring to the table. I mean with the two game average of 226 yards per game against the Lil Giants, spread over three seasons, he would only throw for 6,780 over three seasons if he averaged that. Significantly less than he has right now!

Geesh....Based on what I am hearing from Wallace and Daddycakes, the Bishops have no chance at all and the Lil Giants will just crush them. Probably same thoughts OSU fans had about Purdue this week before the miracle on the Olentangy. Let's hope for the sanity of those in denial about losing to the Gators, the Lil Giants don't need a miracle this week. I mean, gosh, how would you explain away two losses to mediocre teams.

One other thought....The great Blanks is averaging 77 yards a game but had 157 yards against the Lil Giants. Not counting the Wabash game he is averaging a scary 57.5 yards per game for CMU. Thank goodness for the Lil Giant rush defense or else he might just be an ordinary back.

Bashdad, You have a great team. I am happy for you. But you are not Alabama.

Bash lost a game to Allegheny who despite your pleas to make it just go away and disappear, is a bad loss. OWU has no bad losses!

Last year Bash gave up 291 yards passing to OWU. Chase Belton ran for 55 yards and lost 54 yards. He got harassed by a "bad" defense all day. Your leading running back in the game averaged 3.9 yards per carry and gained a total of 55 yards. Yeah you won 28-7 at home but you played OWU 7-7 the last three quarters. The big difference in the game was a guy named Chamblee who had 103 yards in receptions and 93 yards in kick returns. Last time I looked he is gone.

These stats alone tell me that OWU is not the only one who might need to buckle up this week.
