I know what the D3 guys are saying and all the votes including Ric are UWW 5-4, but the total votes on the main page are starting to move to Mount.

Are the Raiders "really" the underdog this time, I am not so sure as we
get closer to game time? ;)

I would absolutely place the Raiders as the underdog this year for the following reasons:

QB questions
Panchik injury
turnover issues
Millings' situation
replacing Kmic/Micheli

The list is significant and they're still playing in the Stagg but what is UWW worrying about???

I think WWW has a lot to worry about.  They're only been able to climb the Mount once and they're 1-4 in Staggs vs. Mount Union if they lose.  I agree that Mount Union is the underdog but I think that WWW has more to lose by losing the game this year than Mount Union.  JMHO of course.

Safe travels to all.  I'm in Northern Virginia and the forecast is a moving target but it keeps getting worse.  They are now calling for up to 20" up here.  VDOT doesn't have nearly the budget or equipment necessary for major snowfalls so get there early and expect to stay late.

Check that...

As I hit "post" I remembered that Chad Hoobler from Carrollton went to Ohio State on scholarship, though he has since transferred.

DeVon Torrence from Canton South is still at OSU, though he was sort of a "package deal" to get his younger brother DeVoe, who transferred to Massilon for his Senior year of HS and then lost his Scholly to OSU because of some questionable activity with underage girls.  Not saying DeVon isn't worthy of his scholarship, but make no mistake, DeVoe was the target.

I have no idea if it was on scholarship but Scott Woolf was on the Ohio State roster before he transferred to Mount Union in the early 80's.

BTW, what's your West Branch connection?  Scott graduated from West Branch the year after I did.  I grew up playing sandlot football in his front yard with him, his brothers and the other kids our age in Beloit.

Good ol Coop   He had on his team an all American receiver, who,s name escapes me, with a 0.0 grade average. What a guy!   OSU kept him for 11 years.

I believe you are talking about Reggie Germany.  BTW, he was not as All-American but he did have the infamous 0.0 GPA.

I'd agree with hscoach's Tressel assessment.  I'm hoping the increase in recruiting talent over the past couple of years will allow him to win his way again because I think we all know that he won't change his ways.  I'd love to see a top level OC at Ohio State once again along with a defensive mind like D'Antonio who knew how to attack weaknesses on D.

QuotePoor Jim Tressel. 3rd place in the Ohio coaches poll for coach of the year. My, how the fates have turned. LK was the right choice for #1.  Just glad the rest of the Ohio college coaches saw it that way too. I wonder how Tressel would have placed up in Wisconsin?

Why the Tressel bashing?  I'm sure he is aware of LK's accomplishments and would give kudos to LK given the opportunity.  It seem silly for someone in Ohio to bash Ohio football when we get enough of it right now from the rest of the country.   ;)

My thoughts are, who wants pads on in June/July and even the big guys work on skills and drills for weeks before they start hitting. Technique, form and conditioning gotta come first. Now for linemen that involves hitting something, but probably not each other. Raider2019 (read Kevin) loved LK/VK's camp last year, all be it that he's a WR and not that fond of hitting.

Of course I'm a guy that would never "practice" shooting in basketball practice. Fundementals first.

Of course I could be wrong :P

Form shooting in basketball is a fundamental so I'd still devote a fair amount of time to it.  I'm appalled at the number of basketball players today that have terrible shooting form.

My son is the player he is because he had a coach early on in travel and AAU ball that insisted that the big men spent as much time on ball-handling drills as the guards.  Now he's a 6'4" freshman in high school who has guard skills with the ball in his hands.  Creates some serious matchup issues for opposing teams.

My belief is that dominant side skills will come naturally and that you should spend twice as much time developing the weaker side.  Just my .02.

To the OP.

Best of luck to your son with the camps.

WWW is gunning to stop the run and obviously is being eaten alive by Micheli.  WWW will NOT win a shootout.  If they don't figure things out defensively this one will be ugly early.

So, is the game seriously at 10 (11 ET)? The exact same time as comencement at UWW. If so, didn't they change the time last year? And, what are the chances of that happening again?

The chance is zero percent.  This year the Stagg Bowl is competing with 4 division 1 bowl games for TV time.

Go Purple Raiders!

Ypsi -- Thanks for the history lesson.  Have been a Yost fan for a long time.  [comes with being a math/stats major]

Cuz afterall, the only reason there issports is to keep us statisticians happy, right?

As a retired stats instructor, thanks! ;D

Just for you:

Fielding Yost's record, 1901-05: 55-1-1 (outscored opponents 2,821-42 - bet even LK can't match that one! :D).

I may have over-stated the gap between Yost and Harmon, at least for the late 70s-80s crowd.  Some guy named Jerry Ford was a key player for the national champion Wolverines in 1932 and 1933, and the team MVP (when they won only 1 game) in 1934.  And, contrary to persistent rumor, he DID wear a helmet. :P

Mount Union had a stretch under LK where they won 54 in a row then lost then won another 55 in a row (or vice versa).  I believe that 109-1 beats Yost by a long shot.

Take that, Michigan man.   ;D

[/quote]70's,
My wife and I have been going to Mount games for more than 30 years.   Remember back when it was just fun to go to a game?   (Oh my, we might even win this one!).  I have to admit being very spoiled expecting to win almost every game.   I try not to be the least bit cocky, but I sure am proud of my Purple Raiders.

I grew up in Beloit in the 70's.  I remember reading the Alliance review many, many times and it was yet another Mount Union football loss.  The program began to turn around in the 80's (prior to LK's arrival) when Scott Wolfe was the QB and they began to challenge Augustana in a couple of great playoffs game when Augustana was setting the standard for DIII football.  The rest, as they say, is history.

SJF Fan is showing his ignorance on multiple boards today.  He's posted over on the LL board that MUC's weakness is "speed".

Lol, everyone loves to use "speed" as a weakness of every Ohio team.

Here's a prediction for the game at SJF next year for you.  Mount Union 44 - SJF 7.  That will be closer to the final score than any prediction Mr. SJF Fan will make.

Just curious?  Do the MUC fans feel the need to bombard the chat rooms of everyteam they play and inform the other fans just how impressive their team, program and fans are?

Well, normally the OAC boards this time of year are full of fans from the opposing team of the week crowing about how MUC has never seen the likes of the team that they're going to face on Saturday.

BTW, what's wrong with some friendly banter before the game?  What's wrong with making an attempt to get to know the opposing fan base?  It would appear that there is little to no support for the ODAC in this board judging by the lack of posts from the ODAC fan base.

Anyway, best of luck to RMC as they travel to my home town on Monday.  Though I live in NOVA my heart is still with Mount Union and Ohio State football.

Here are my 5 reasons:  All 5 starting MUC O-Linemen will be recalled by Ohio State right before kickoff.  Let's be honest, they have been the difference the last two years.  Their "skill" guys always have and always will be average.

Ok maybe not just that, it's their O-line and undersized yet incredibly athletic and aggressive defense are the real reasons for their dominance.

But, not to worry Double Dubs faithful, Da' Beav just won the Heisman (Gagliardi),  Da' Hawks have been on ESPN the last three years, and they are starting to put guys in the league.  A few guys will get a shot this year too.  I promise you, the recruits/transfers they get will be insane.

MUC Faithful, this is what they call the writing on the wall.  End of an era, it's due time for a changing of the guard.

OK, I hereby nominate this for most asinine post ever made at D3Football.com.  Ummm, Moore, Pugh, Kmic, Borchert, Ballard, Garcon, Micheli, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.?  Average skill guys, eh?

This from the WIAC Board.  "Average" skill guys at Mount Union?  Whatever this guy is smoking must be seriously good stuff.

A trip to the DIII championship is miniscule compared to DI.  My wife could not believe the ticket prices for last weekend.  If I was still living in OH I'd think nothing of the drive to Salem.  From west central FL it's a bit of a haul.  Most of the folks here I know that went to Glendale last year weren't doing it on teachers' salaries.  Of course neither UF or OSU has made it to 11 of the past 15 national championship games either.

True, but 3 of 6 is pretty good for D1.  Now to get that second win!

hscoach,

I was thinking that as I hit post.  It was an abysmal performance last January.
