Thanks Eureka for the comment.

Ellis is smaller than his father, true and some people are responding to the posts made towards him.  Just as I read, this is an "open forum" so posts of any kind are going to be made.  If he was taller, he'd probably slam dunk on Bunch Time and Sager, together!  Ha ha, get some laughter in here.  True, he didn't get the ability of his father, but you tell me how many players have?  Either they aren't as good as their father or they're better, if that's the case.  Well, I also know that players that are talked about on here, posters may know them personally and feel that what's being said about a certain person isn't right.  If you see posters respond a different way from something you said, make clarity of what's being said and leave it at that.  There's no need to keep talking about something that the point has already been made.  I'm clear of the situation and WILL leave it at that.

LaPhonso, Sr. goes 6'8, 240, or at least he did in his NBA playing days. Looks like Junior rolled snake eyes in the DNA craps game.

Damn, that's kind of harsh don't you think?  There are some things you don't joke around about.

Stat Breakdown from Westminster / Greenville Game...

Well, obviously I was not at the Greenville/Westminster Game.  I was 2042 miles away at our own game.  However, in knowing the guys at Greenville and looking at the stats, I can tell a little.

Looks like the different lied in free throws with GC shooting 4-5 and Westminster 14-22.  I don't know how the game was called but by what I understand.  Turnovers also hurt the Panthers.

As has been the trouble in the past, the Panthers have no real post presence.  Ellis (18 pts, 8 reb) had a good day down low.  But at 6-3 / 239, I'm not sure he's going to be able to bump with the big men of the SLIAC.  Williams has to get stronger or the Panthers will have move to a more high pace game.

Biggest key for the Panthers is Ellis, Cochran, and Simmons can't do it all.  Panthers had 8 points off the bench.  It doesn't look like the bench was used a ton.  But Hensold, Groves, and Wolfe have to step up of the Panthers plan on being competitive in the SLIAC.  Also, 8 TO out of your guard (Cochran) isn't going to get it done either.

Note:  Panther players reading this, don't take anything personal.  I love all you guys, just taking an assessment judging by what I know and looking at the GC/WC Stats.

Panther, I totally agree with you.  Seeing GC play against Lincoln Christian, I was blown away from their performance and it was a great confidence builder before Westmin.  But, that was only me believing that.  You took the words right out of my mouth about their play yesterday.  I've said it before, Greenville needs to learn to finish games!  Yes, Williams should be a much stronger player but he's too indecisive when he gets the ball.  Cochran is a freshman, I understand but on any level you have to understand it's college ball.  In high school, he may have gotten away with the turnovers but not on this level.  Yea, he can't split 3 defenders or throw fancy passes if he hasn't practiced them.  Hensold, looking at the stats I was shocked because he didn't even put up a shot attempt the whole time he was in the game.  Ellis, I'm not surprised from his performance, it's expected from him to help Greenville win games.  He's a fundamental player that gets the job done, I love how he is relentless on the boards and getting himself involved in the offense.  Cosby has been playing great then just hmm ok, he just have to hit open shots and be consistent when playing.  Well, they have a good break until their next game.  Some of the players need a reality check about what they need to do in order to better the team going into the rest of conference play. Well SLIAC play is about to kick off a little bit and going by records as of now, it's up for grabs.  Yes, the beginning of the season is a great way to find out what teams are about, Like GC two 5 point W's, but we all know when it's a conference match-up, it's a whole different game.  As I saw, GC plays to their opponents level, I agree with that and they also played like that when they had their "go to guy" Conquest.  They lack a big man and things are going to have to be adjusted as the season goes.  In both games, GC let the teams come back, it's not like it's "5" points the whole game, GC just needs to learn how to finish games out better.  I also think that at least the Cor. (MO) game would of been different if Cochran would have played, due to "team violations" I would suspect.

Greenville has some good returning players despite the loss of Conquest.  Their perimeter game last year matched up with the better teams in the conference.

Interesting that new faces played leading roles in their opener.  Of course, Greenville's downfall last year was a distinct lack of size and rebounding power  -  no presence whatsoever in the middle.   If this problem has been addressed with new faces, Greenville should be a contender for a SLIAC playoff position.

Thanks for the writeup, Oldschool....

Hope- They still have perimeter game, even with the loss of Conquest, one player, the perimeter game is still there.  Okay, no presence in the middle, true they aren't tall to play so they may have to relay on pressing majority of the times in games or have their strong players contend with the big guys.  If you can play good D and have strength to match up towards a big man, you can compete.  Trust, I know this myself.

Well, Greenville lost their home opener against Dubuque.  Tyler Daugherty had 24pts and Drey Porter was behind him with 19pts.  Porter had a lot of open shots and GC defense wasn't able to capitalize.

For GC, Terrance Cosby had a great welcoming into the college world of basketball coming off the bench with 12pts, 3rebs and 1stl, also 100% on 4 free throws.  Also playing in his first game, Ben Cochran led the team in scoring with 14 and 4ast.  LaPhonso Ellis had a difficult time finding a rhythm offensively scoring only 5pts, but fundamentally rebounded with 10, 7 of them being on defense.  Chris Simmons had 13pts and shot 6 for 7 from the charity stripe.  Ben Hensold had 9pts, all coming from beyond the arc and Chris Hohm had 11pts.  After this game, GC should now know what's need to be done in order to win games.  This was a good team to play on the first game cause they'll see this kind of play from a few other SLIAC teams, I'm not saying that as Dubuque (in the IIAC) being a part of the SLIAC.  I had the chance to catch this game live and will see some more throughout the season.  GC was making a good comeback towards the end, but it just wasn't enough.  I have to say, I'm excited to see what's going to happen for the rest of the season for GC.

A few players to watch:
Webster - Two all - conference players in Hoggatt and Kuhn

I highly agree with you about these two players.

FC- It helps.  Also, from GC another player I believe to keep an eye on is Hensold.  Hensold and Simmons are in their final year so they will come to play.  I believe that Ellis was a very key role player off the bench last season.  But, we should see him in the starting lineup more this season.  GC also have a couple of new faces that will be used in the mix, if the coach makes the right rotation that is.  One of those faces is Cosby, solid all around player that can post up and bring the ball up the floor.  That's a newcomer to look out for.

Who do everyone think will win the conference this year?  Will Eureka pull it off, or will MacMurray stay on top?   I think that it's kind of up for grabs, the teams tied for fifth last year (Westminster, Greenville) were only three games behind.  Who are the teams to watch for?  The players to watch for, starters and bench role players?
