Been off the board for a while now so apologies if someone previously put this info out there but former BC coach Bill Leatherman recently published a book about his career coaching at BC.  Pretty entertaining read and lots of behind the scenes type info.  Not very flattering of the BC administration.  No wonder they took it off their website after only a couple hours!

Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed reading it-a true walk down memory lane of the ODAC.

Yes, very bad timing for BC in terms of the coaching change but I don't think anyone there is too upset about him leaving.  In the AD's press release he didn't even thank Coach Post, just wished him well.  Referred to him as a "great basketball mind" which I think is accurate but from what I can gather, he was not a program builder by any stretch of the imagination-just a recruiter of talent.  You are not going to be successful in the ODAC or anywhere, when you continually turn over the majority of your roster every year.  I don't know who they will be able to attract at this point in the year but good luck to them and the kids in the program that were recruited by Post, as another poster alluded to.

Anyone know whats going on down at E&H?  Here it is almost May and still no announcement of a new head coach.

Anyone have any idea what's going on at Bridgewater with regards to their top 2 returning scorers from last year-Saylor and Boggs?  Neither has played a minute this season yet they are both on the roster still.  I saw the JMU exhibition early in the year and they were both shirt and tie on the bench.  Injuries, suspension, discipline issues?  The loss of these 2 players has really been glaring so far for BC.

Philip Baumgartner
Jesse Case
Paul Brown
Romello Crowell
Efe Balfour
Essex Thompson
Joe Lewis
Maalik Howard
DJ Caldwell
Hunter Dotson
Cameron Thurston
Logan Seacrist
Brandon Walters
De'quan Whiting
Trenton Ray
Kevin Jones
Norman Barnes

Add to the list:
Bryce Boggs
Kevin Saylor

19 guys in 2 season have transferred to a different school or quit basketball altogether. What is the common denominator here? Shawn Postiglione. The verbal abuse and unfair treatment of players has led to poor team chemistry and mistrust between players and coaches. None of the above mentioned players deserved what they've gotten. He's forced out multiple all-ODAC quality players and has lost two more this year in Boggs and Saylor. Neither player's actions deserve the treatment they were handed and no other coach would have put them in the position he did.

Don't let their current record fool you, the state of Bridgewater basketball has ventured down a dark path.

19 guys in 2 seasons definitely says that something is going on.

Saylor still is on the roster but looks like Boggs has been removed.

Burgess isn't leaving on his own-he was told he was not being retained.  Essentially fired but given the chance to resign.  Another terrible decision by the administration of BC.  Clueless.

Burgess out at BC.  Search for new coach to begin.

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere here so I wanted to give Coach Moir at Roanoke some kudos for his 400th career win.  Obviously the 'noke hasn't been a factor in the ODAC race for a number of years but 400 wins is still an impressive total.

Also, had the opportunity to see EMU and BC play over the weekend.  EMU has some potential to have a solid year.  If they can find anyone that can consistently make the 3 they will be ok.  Going to be a difficult season for BC based on the two games I saw and with their only 2 really quality players being seniors-could be even worse times ahead.

Looking forward to another exciting year of ODAC competition.

Predictions for tonight's games-should be some good ones!

RMC/Shenandoah-RMC in a close one
Randolph-W&L-Randolph in another close game (I will be watching this one in person and looking forward to it!)
VWC/HSC-Should be an exciting game-going with the Marlins in another close game
RC/LC-another good game I think-LC in a close one
Guilford/E&H-Guilford wins by 15 or so
BC/EMU-big rivalry game obviously.  BC wins because Coach Dean will refuse to play any zone at all more than likely.

With all the games between the top 3/4 teams coming up, look for teams such as LC and BC to possibly close the standings up a little because of their weaker schedules during this stretch.

I realize all his coaching victories haven't been in the ODAC, but Guilford's Tom Palombo's done "okay" as well:

100-63 in 6 seasons at Defiance = .615
207-87 in 10 1/2 seasons at Guilford = .704

307-150 total in 16 1/2 seasons = .672

Agreed-he is an excellent coach!  Also glad to see he employed the "make BC beat you from 3 point range" strategy Saturday in their victory.  Good to see a team finally make BC shoot a bunch of 3's.  BC was 5-25 and as expected, Guilford won the game.

So is Bridgewater the team to beat in the odac ?

I wouldn't say that BC is the team to beat but definitely capable of beating anyone and in the mix.  Yes, they were rated way too low by the coaches in the preseason-frankly it shocked me when I saw the rankings.  Reason being-BC is senior and junior laden with guys that have played lots of minutes since they were freshmen.  Experience is something that is invaluable, particularly in conference play.  Also, BC has as much athletic ability as anyone in the league.  Their real weakness is perimeter shooting and again, I am shocked teams are not just zoning the heck out of them and forcing them to fire up 3's.  They are shooting 21% overall from 3 point range and their top shooter is only at 28%.  Yet teams continue to play them man.  Very confusing to me at least.

I was able to see the BC/Wesleyan game in person and BC did shoot better from 3 point range (5/9) but still-they only had to take 9 3's.  It appeared to me the thing lacking for this Wesleyan team-at least on this night-was the trademark get after it, pressure defense that they have played for years.  They allowed BC to do whatever they wanted offensively.  But again-thats just one game so I don't know how they have looked defensively all season.

I expect BC to be a contender down the stretch.

In reference to the discussion on the rise and demise of the BC program, I don't think there was any bigger impact than that of then BC vice president Jim Benson.  His years of tenure there coincide with the great rise to the top and then drop-off.  No coincidence either that he was in charge of admissions, financial aid and athletics during those years.  Some more info in the link.

Anybody heard any word on the vacant E&H job?  I have heard that several prospective coaches turned the job down but that is just speculation.

"What "black eyes" has Burgess had at BC?"

Maybe not the best wording.  Probably the most concerning to the administration is the lack of retention to student-athletes and overall academic performance.  That, along with the overall sub-par record of the program in his five years there is not a good combination.  It appeared they were on their way up this season at times so this is a disappointing setback.

according to the DNR article-W&L, Shenandoah, Guilford, and Roanoke games from spring semester are the games they must forfeit.
