Congrats to Bowdoin for knocking off Colby by double digits.  It seemed as though Bowdoin had 7-10 point lead the entire second half.  Can someone please provide some insight about this game?

I am excited for the Colby/Bowdoin match-up today.  Is it being simulcast?  This game should go down to the wire and  I agree with most of the observations made by Chalk and Denton.  If Jackson and Phillips have good games today I think Bowdoin wins by 5 or 6.  If only one of these guys plays well Bowdoin could be in trouble.  I think Hauser will be able to contain the Colby guards.  He is a better defender than people give him credit for.  I really hope Bowdoin can win this game because the three seniors (Jackson, Lane, and Sturgis) have been great players/people for the Bowdoin program and I would like to see them extend their career a little bit longer.  Good luck Bowdoin.

Denton you can email me t KWB123@live.com if you want

I have been absent from the board for a little while, but I just wanted to give a little update on the Bowdoin Polar Bears...

They had 2 tough road losses at st joes and colby-sawyer; Had st joes down by double digits until the last 5 minutes of the game and fell apart.  They have struggled on the road but looks like they are learning how to win with two wins on the road against plymouth state and maine-farm.  While these two teams are not very good this year, they are normally decent programs.

Also colby-sawyer and st joes might not be as bad as usual considering colby-sawyer gave middlebury a tough game (lost by ten up by 7 at half).  Key to bowdoin's success is finding that go to scorer when they need a bucket down the stretch in close games.  If they are able to get 3 or even 2 out of the next 3 against colby bates and tufts on the road they are decent shape

Phillips is finally playing like he can getting double doubles the past two games.  Him and Jackson will have to be the go-to scorers.

Jackson is a good player, and Tim Lane is in double figures as well.  These next two weekends are huge for bowdoin

They have a good chance to be in every game because their defense is good like last yr, and they do not turn the ball over much because Mike Hauser is a point guard who rarely commits turnovers and makes very good decisions

Hanley and Sellew provide scoring off the bench and Sturgis is a great defender and rebounder, that can finish strong

O'connell is starting to look more comfortable on the court and he is a major shooting threat if he continues to get more confidence... it would be huge to get two threes from him.

They are 8 guys deep, with 8 guys getting 15 minutes or more a game.  Doesnt look like the league is as strong in the past as everyone has been saying but I feel like this team is hitting stride as league play starts.  I think nescac1 said something like if they are able to get through all these road games with 2 or 3 losses then they can be competitors and they have a pretty good shot at doing it.  Right now I would rank amherst and middlebury at the top with bowdoin, williams, and conn close behind.

I am looking forward to league play and hope for Bowdoin to play as well as they did last year.

Bowdoin falls to Salem St 66-61.  A back and forth contest throughout the entire game.  Salem St opened up a 5 point lead with 2 minutes left and Bowdoin could never close that gap.  Mark Phillips had a very good game with 20 points in only 20 minutes b/c of foul trouble.  Tim Lane chipped in with 9 and 9.  Kyle Jackson struggled, but he will recover from this game and will have a very big season.

Had a chance to attend the Bowdoin v. WNEC game yesterday.  Bowdoin got off to a slow start, but came on strong in the second half lead by Tim Lane.  Lane sparked the Polar Bear's offense by scoring 23 points on a 11 for 12 shooting!! He looked unstoppable and it seems as though hes ready to have a break-out season.  I have the pleasure of knowing Lane and I know how hard he worked this past off season; he told me he is determined to get back to the NESCAC Championship and another berth in the NCAA tourney. Lane may not be a "household" name right now, but if the Polar Bears continue to win and Lane keeps putting up good numbers he very well could lead the Bears back to the Championship.  I know it's a little early for all this discussion, but I was excited about Lane's performance and hope Bowdoin can win tonight v. Salem State.   Good luck tonight Bowdoin!

Denton- I will not be in attendance tonight (law school duties)

From what I have heard Ryan O'Connell is expected to get minutes at some point this year.  His offensive skills are comparable to those of Hippert, but his defense still has to improve.  Also, it will take him some time to learn all the offensive plays and schemes.  I expect him to get a chance to help Bowdoin next weekend in the Salem St Tourney.  Once he gets his opportunity, his confidence will build and he will start to get more and more minutes.  I expect O'Connell to average 10-12 minutes a game by the time league play starts.

Great game between Bowdoin and Colby.  It was a back and forth contest throughout most of the game.  Colby held a slight lead with about 5 or 6 mins left in the game, but some timely baskets by Reid-Sturgis and Freshman Will Hanley helped Bowdoin win the game.  The story of the game was Bowdoin's bench.  Bowdoin's bench, especially Reid-Strugis and Hanley, gave the Polar Bears a much needed lift. Jackson,Hauser, and Phillips also had solid games.

Artie Cutrone played well for Colby.  Choice struggled alittle bit.  Colby only played like 6-7 guys.  Whereas Bowdoin had 7 guys with atleast 17 minutes of playing time.  Depth could hurt Colby this year, but I still think they are a good team.

Based on only one game it seems apparent that Bowdoin is going to be a very good team.  Last year they relied on Hippert, Fliegel, and Sargentson every night whereas this year it seems like 7-8 guys will contribute each and every game.  This is the deepest Bowdoin team in recent memory.

Impressive first win, keep up the good work.

Bowdoin opens up its season tonight against the Mules of Colby.  It is very rare for the Polar Bears to tip off their season against a NESCAC rival.  Hopefully Bowdoin can build on their success from last year and begin the season off with a big victory.  Bowdoin returns with only two starters, but they have many guys who have seen significant playing time over their career.  Kyle Jackson will be the leader and main guy for the Polar Bears.  I predict he has a huge senior year and will be an All-Nescac player.  He will have to carry the load on the offensive end to compensate for the loss of Hippert,Fliegel, and Sargenson.  Mike Hauser, the other returning starter, could emerge has an upper echelon point guard.  His ppg should increase and he will have a breakout year.  The other starters will be Tim Lane (does alittle bit of everything, the ultimate team player), Mark Phillips (great touch for a big man, if he has a big year Bowdoin will be a tough team to beat), and Randy Dafoe (gets better everyday).  All of these guys have seen playing time throughout the years and if they all play to their potential, Bowdoin will finish near the top of the NESCAC.  Darian Reid Sturgis and Paul Sellew will be the 6th and 7th guys.  Sturgis is a great athlete and Bowdoin's best defender. He will help fill the void left by Sargentson.  Sellew is a talented offensive player who can score from anywhere on the floor.  Bowdoin also added 2 freshman to their squad who could see playing time.  Will Hanley 6'7 g/f and ryan oconnell 6'1 guard.  I have not seen either one play but from what I have heard they both have immense potential and should add to the depth of Bowdoin.

I predict Bowdoin will finish in the top 4 in the NESCAC.  The team will be different from last year, but still very good.  Jackson will be the stud, but Bowdoin will get contributions from many different guys.  They have 5-7 guys that could potentially average 10 points each.

BOWDOIN V. COLBY TONIGHT!

Also Randy Defeo is coming back next yr, he had a great freshman yr.  He is awesome.  Randy and Hauser will make a great back court.

I was at the Brandeis v. Bowdoin game. Bowdoin came out a little nervous and Brandeis took advantage.  Bowdoin made a nice run in the second half but Brandeis was too much to handle.  Brandeis was deep, and they were good.  Bowdoin had a great season, probably the best in their history, but BraNEIS at home was too strong.  Congrats to Sargeaston, Fliegel, and Hippert who all had great careers and put the team on their shoulders.  Next year looks bright for Bowdoin with JAckson, Hauser, Sturgis, Lane, Sellew, and Phillips coming back next yr along with 2 outstanding recruits.  Goodluck guys...

Martin or Hasiuk might knock out one of the Bowdoin guys. I do think Hip deserves to make it, but missing games may allow hasiuk to jump on over him.  Martin may bump Fliegel b/c they are almost equal in talent and Trinity did win it all.  Your points are well taken, but Im hoping atleast one Bowdoin guy gets on.

Bowdoin with a 4 point upset of Amherst- 74-70
Trinity with a 5 point win over Middlebury- 69-64

I may be going out on a limb, but I cannot pick against Bowdoin.  With that said, Im also rooting for Trinity because I saw Middlebury handle Bowdoin and I think Trinity is a better match up for Bowdoin.  If Bowdoin is fortunate to get to the finals I would rather they play Trinity.

Actual spreads
Amherst -7 1/2 Bowdoin
Trinity -2 Middlebury
