looks like there are several teams off to respectable starts in conference play.....any thoughts on what 4 teams might make the SUNYAC tourney?

RPI definately doesn't really have a strong schedule at all, and i don't know how anyone can argue that.....its a joke they wont schedule ithaca,cortland......2 yrs ago i think it definately helped RPI get an NCAA bid by not having played any of the top tier NY Region teams....but hopefully the new OWP and OOWP will force teams to schedule better teams if they are hoping to being in contention for a pool C bid. It also helps prepare your team for postseason play by playing a tougher non-conference schedule

I agree second tier teams are getting closer....and i do feel the SUNYAC doesnt always get the respect it should. Cortland is by far the best team in the league.....but Id like to see team schools like Oneonta, Brockport, and Plattsburgh get more respect

It's really not going to matter, because unless there is a major change in plans.....this will be the last yr of the conference tourney. All these are great ideas, but were just wasting our time discussing possible venues.

Bob he has no baseball elgibility left......and even if he did it really wouldnt matter. Oswego took a huge hit on their pitching staff, and even with those guys from last year they still werent good enough to make the SUNYAC's.......should be another long yr up in laker country this yr

No one is talking about anything but Cortland on here because there isn't really anything to talk about but them. I realize games are played on the field, but i just can't see anyone really giving Cortland a game. Plattsburgh looks to have the most returning, but until they get over the fact they havent won a sunyac tourney game in who knows how long....they wont be beating anyone whens it matters most. Brockport lost an awful lot of talent as well, and i just don't really know what to expect out them.....there probably a few years away from being a real contender again. Oneonta has a decent amount of offense returning, but that pitching staff has to really step up or they wont be going anywhere.
To basically sum it up.....everyone is going to have there work cut out for them to even be in a game with Cortland.......it doesnt hurt either when there able to not only recruit H.S kids but they recruit the D1 programs in NYS and the other sunyac teams as well(coromato,avery)....there ought to be a rule against kids transfering in conference

Scuba your right simone will be in the mix.....as i mentioned in a previous post.....I agree there will be innings for everyone, just not consistent ones, and that may be tough producing when your not sure whether your going to play or not.
Merriweather is a prime example....the kid only had 76 at-bats last yr and only started 18 of their 45 gms. Someone who definately could be playing everyday. But hey guys have to except there roles for the betterment of the team

Bob, you hit several of my key points. Cortland has a lot of depth and more than they've probably ever had before. My point is that i just don't see many of those new guys getting any consistent at-bats to really be effective. It's hard to produce when you don't know if your going to be in the lineup everyday.
I agree guys will get their opportunities....but it just may only be a handful of spot starts and pinch hit at-bats during games that Cortland is beating up on someone. You mention SS not changing and that was my point. Vitalone will be at SS meaning Palmiero will not be seeing the field, looks like hes along for the ride to Appelton
Winning will keep guys happy, which i see C-state doing a lot of, and they should be tested playing one of the best schedules in the country

i dont know about that banalyst.....you tell me where any of those transfers are gonna see consistent playing time. Just about everyone of those guys will be lucky to see a spot start and some pinch hit at-bats. Coach Brown trys to stock-pile as much talent as possible, and just because they have experience means nothing.
This will be one of cortlands deepest teams theyv'e ever had. Its only a proven fact that someone is going to be the odd man out. Like i said before only 9 guys can play.
Zaccardo C, Devito/Giametta 1b, Russo 2b, Vitalone SS, Nickel 3b, Coromato LF, Avery CF, Gardner DH......so that leaves RF for Caughey/Simone/the Dimino brothers.
basically anyone that came in will have trouble cracking the lineup, but like i said its a nice problem to have.....just can't see kids like Palmiero, or the Dimino brothers see consistent playing time.

Banalyst Cortland is always a contender.....a lot of depth on the pitching staff, but no true ace like dougher may be a problem late in the season unless someone can step up. All pretty solid recruits, but last time i checked only 9 guys can play at once.
You mention all these guys but fail to mention arguably 3 of C-State better players. Vitalone will start at ss and most likely hit in the 3 spot. Russo will be starting at 2b and Coromato will be in one of the OF spots.....so its nice they got all these guys
It'll be interesting to see whose in the lineup when the season starts and gets the at-bats.....its only common sense that someone will be the odd man out. I guess its a good problem to have if your Coach Brown
It's going to be hard for palmiero, and the the dimino brothers to even crack the lineup with all the depth corltand has returning

ECAC's are going back to how they use to be or possible some type of spring trip format.......so after this year they wont be used as a sort of play in tourney.
Not having a SUNYAC tourney would be a mistake.....it allows everyone to have something to play for all year even though Cortland usually wins it anyways.
Plattsburgh's lineup should be pretty good....but unless they brought in some pitching, they will be no better than they've been in the past. When it comes down to it pitching and defense wins games.
