2008-09 Men's All-America Team from d3hoops, http://www.d3hoops.com/all-american/menallam09.htm Johnson made 2nd team and Madson 3rd. Where is the MIAC MVP? He didn't even make honorable mention...hmmm
Congrats to the two of them on a great season and careers.

WW, I also saw the article in the Strib about Johnson getting screwed, I mean Scott getting the MVP. Scott says it best and has a point they didn't pick the correct MVP, they picked the best player on the best team.
"My feeling is the coaches felt that, with us going unbeaten in the conference, that a St. Thomas player should get the award," Scott said. "I'm the guy they went with, but it could've been any of our starters."

Have coaches lost their minds this basketball season?
Johnson wasn't the only left out of a POY/MVP award that was well desired. Rivera of America East lost it because other coaches disapproved of his transfer and his coach's recruiting ways, but the coach was named the coach of the year for the conference, doesn't make much sense.
The NCAA America East commissioner doesn't even agree. Think Daniel McKane, Executive Director of MIAC, agrees?

How does a Junior beat out 2 well desiring seniors for the MVP?
Scott is a great player and on a great team and should be the winner next year if he keeps it up, not this year when 2 seniors have better numbers than him. Take Johnson or Madson away from their team and it makes a huge difference (most valuable). Take Scott away and the Tommies have plenty others to take his spot and probably still finish at the top.

Nites, I knew I should have just posted with an incomplete thought. I was in the middle of posting, but had to leave the house, so didn't get a chance to post it. Honest to goodness, I had my answers of McCoy and Hipp for never shooting one and Viau with only one.
McCoy and Hipp are inside guys and a good choice to have not shot one. Having watching Viau play for many years, just had a feeling it might be him because he has always been hesitant to shoot the three, even though he is a guard, and would rather take a couple dribbles in to be a little closer.

It would be great to see St. Thomas go all the way (since they are in the tournament I will cheer for them), but I think they will win a couple games then the inside size of teams will beat them. My prediction is one of the WIAC teams will knock them out.

Anyone check out Mac's search for a head coach?

How typical is it to require coaching experience at the college level for a MIAC school? The Gusties recently hired a high school football coach after a national search, for example. Are you really telling me Ken Novak's resume would get tossed in the garbage if he applied? Feel free to make the obligatory Hopkins University joke here  :P

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; Master's degree preferred

Does it really take a Master's degree to coach? Experience coaching (assistant or head) and playing (knowledge/awareness builder) would be my preferred things.

Interesting, the last two teams that had less than 14 TOs against the Tommies were Carleton with 13 & the Gusties with 11.  Both of those games were played on the road in Northfield & St. Peter.

Ok, how about this?

1) Pick the total # of Gustie TOs
2) Pick the total # of Gustie Post TOs

1) The loser has to buy the winner a burger at a TC area establisment.
2) The loser has to buy the winner a drink of choice at same TC area establishment.

Wager to be paid within 60 days of bet.  ;)

In case you've signed off & log back on later - I'll go 14 TOs, 7 Post Tos.

1. 19 Total TO's
2. 8 Post TO's

Interesting note from the Carleton write-up after last night's loss. The Knights are 0-16 on the road in the playoffs after losing to Augsburg. You have to find a way to get it done away from home, especially in the post-season. I could understand if you were playing at Gus Young, that's an electric atmosphere that's tough to play in. After watching the web cast, Augsburg basketball isn't high on the priority list in Minneapolis. Plenty of empty seats in the house. I think more people were in the library.

I don't know among the board who looks at all the web sites around the MIAC, but Carleton has by far the worse writing in terms of being a rube. Every time the Knights win, they play perfect. Every time they lose, there's an excuse. Sometimes it's hard to read, imagine having to edit it!

Someone new this year is writing up the articles, so that is why they haven't been as good this year and aren't posted so fast. I believe in  the past it was Eric Sieger and he did a great job. Still does a great job with posting pictures from the games.

Has anyone else ever won MVP and POY awards before now?

Wish me luck gentlemen.  I'm about ready to cross over the threshold into D3 Sports rareified air- All American status & 2000 posts of nothing.  ;D   And as usual, despite what some ne'er-do-wells claim, I'm proudly repping the colors of all the MIAC schools & yes that includes SJU.   :-*

Congrats!!

WW, a little disappointed in your recap of the BU-CAR, no mention of Johnson reaching the 2,000 point mark for his career. That's a huge accomplishment for anyone.

Carleton FY Kellen McLeMore didn't play the last game against Bethel because he was out with the flu. Not sure of his status for tonight.

Just saw that St. Thomas got their new athletic and recreation center approved. Construction starts in May and should be done by Fall 2010. Where might they be playing next year?
