General football / Re: The saddest days of the year

It is even more sad to me as this was my Sons' last year to play. Not sure what to do with my Saturdays now. :(

How is this a national quarterfinal game and all that has been talked about is the streaming of the game?  Are you kidding me?  Is it such a big foregone conclusion that Mount will roll that is limiting the talk this week?  There was more actuall football talk from the Benedictine faithful.  I can't wait for Mount to get rid of these Little Giants.  The next two games will be available live for them. Can we go back to the days where "Mount has never seen a team like this"?

Hey Purple, I'll have some salt and pepper for you after this Saturday!   8-)

Regardless of what I want the outcome to be...

Until someone actually beats Mt. Union or UWW, they are the teams to beat and it's hard to come up with a real argument against the predictions.  There is certainly a path to victory for Wabash, nobody is predicting a blowout; but the Little Giants are going to have to be playing not just the game of the year, but the game of their career to do it...and that would only get us to the semi-finals.

You can only climb a mountain one step at a time and these men are ready to do just that. They have been prepared to play the game of their careers, they are going to play the game of their careers. If that is good enough and that is a big "if", then it won't be their last game.  8-)

No worries this Saturday.........

Wabash beat  Wittenberg 28 - 17
Wittenberg beat  Capital 45 - 28
Capital beat  Baldwin-Wallace 14 - 11
Baldwin-Wallace is better than  Mt Union because Baldwin-Wallace beat Wilmington OH 75 - 0
while Mt Union only beat Wilmington OH 66 - 7

I've got to admit, I feel a lot better about our chances now!  8-)

I am finding it only slightly irritating that Wabash did not stand a chance against NCC, hell I don't even know why we showed up for that a$$ whipping, but the fact that we actually won the game doesn't count. NCC choked, they blew it. It didn't have anything to do with the fact that our coaches made adjustments and our players simply weren't intimidated.

Now here we go again. We have a skinny, little broke down QB. We aren't good enough on Offense and we are missing folks on Defense. That is one heck of a long bus ride just to go up to Alliance to get man handled. Maybe, just maybe, we can figure out a way to get Mount to choke one away! I'm pretty sure we can.

Not to nit-pick, but every team at this point of the season is banged up. Mount's 1st team All-OAC TB is banged up and hasn't played much the last couple weeks and their 1st team All-OAC WR played this week for the first time in a month+ on 1 leg.  And we're playing our back-up QB too as the starter was lost a couple weeks ago.

Uncle vs. Nephew.  Both with back-up QB's.  Sounds interesting.

Honestly, I expect this to be a VERY close game.  A couple plays one way or the other will determine the outcome in my opinion.  Defensively what worries me is the Mount defense's lack of QB pressure this season when compared to previous defenses and the DB's tendency to lose track of a WR or two sometimes.  Especially in 3rd down situations.  There have been way too many 3rd & 15 conversions by opponents this season for my liking.  Saw a couple last week against Centre and Benedictine had one as well.   Pass rush almost always has to be generated from a blitz or simply pure passing situation where they can situational substitute to quicker D-linemen than the starters.

Offensively the running game is solid, but not a difference maker.  Will hurt you if you forget about it, but they have not run it down anyone's throat this season or last year.  Best part of the offense is the WR corps.  Deep and talented, especially if the leading WR could heal up before Saturday.  O-line is solid, but not dominant.  QB has really strong arm, but has been inconsistent.

Should be a darn good game.

Coach,
This was my attempt at being sarcastic. I am fully aware that by this time in the season, most teams are pretty banged up. At Wabash as I am sure is also the case at Mount, "next man up" is really how we do it. I am expecting a great, close game also. I can't wait for Saturday...

How exactly did NCC "choke" or "blow the game"?

I dont see that anyone made a mistake, or laid down, puckered, or quit.

It was an effin war out there.

Wabash made great plays.  It could have gone either way.

No one choked anything on Saturday.

Yet again, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. As a parent of one of those players who left everything he had on the field, ask him what he thinks. You wouldn't like his answer. He left the field Saturday knowing that it was another case of woulda, shoulda, coulda... but didn't.

All I can say is I hope we can get Mount Union to gack one up too, that will put us one game closer to the National Championship.  8-)

Well, to be fair, we homer for the NCAC, too.

Smeds.... not like that.... You seriously would say a nice thing about Witt Football?   C'mon Man?

Is it noon yet?  I need a drink....

In the playoffs, yeah, I'd root for Witt to represent the NCAC.

I draw the line at Dannie-land though.

It's a no lose situation for me.  I don't lose a wink of sleep when Witt loses, at any time, but if they do happen to win and advance in the playoffs it helps the league a little bit.  I am starting to get nervous about what my feelings will be when Witt and DePauw start playing each other next year.  I can't root for either.  Most likely, next year at least, DePauw winning probably helps Wabash out a little...eww.  I get crawly skin just entertaining that thought.  I don't feel any better pulling for Witt.  Can they both lose somehow?

You don't have to root for either one of them to win, just root for one or the other to lose!  8-)

Based on all the numbers and stats and post on all the boards, Wabash may as well not even show up for the game. We are out matched, out manned and we don't stand a chance. NCC has dominated (except for the first game of the season) like no one else in history and they are on their way to the Stagg Bowl. Blah, blah, blah....

I am tired of all the talking. I can't wait for Saturday to come.

But if you don't show up, then there is no tailgate. That breaks everyone's heart.   :'(

Oh, I will be there. If you are planning on tailgating, you will find that the Wabash fans will treat you well. You will have a great time at our stadium. I am not sure that the game will turn out as you would like, however if it does your experience will not be ruined by any foolishness. Have safe travels to the game.  8-)

I have to agree with cigarstore that invoking autism as an insult is really offensive, BashDad. And I say this as someone who has heretofore been very impressed by the depth and reasoning of your posts this week.

Maybe someone who goes by a screen name of "cigar store indian" shouldnt be so easily offended.

Both parties that were originally involved in this have exchanged apologies with a lot of class. I think it is time to concetrate now on what will be the game of the year so far, in Crawfordsville!  8-)

They may very well surprise us in the playoffs, but they won't be surprised! Our players believe in themselves, they know how hard they have worked and they know how well they have prepared. I believe in them too. You better get your popcorn ready... 8-)
