From a different board:

Well 11-5 is now very likely. I have seen 4 of WW's games and have seen more 1 on 1 bb than I care to see. We are a completely different team from last year. Hard to believe with 4 starters returning.
Hard to understand what Miller is thinking with his substitutions. And now yesterday he changes the line up, he puts in a new point guard who has more turnovers than assists on the year. Good move when we are already having turnover problems.Just look at the box--- 3 to's and 1 assist in 33 min. Give Point a ton of credit---played harder and better coached, congrats to them, long year for us.

COMPLETELY AGREE  !!!!! BRILLIANT MILLER

We're probably going to have more turnovers that some other teams in the league because of the style of game that we play.  But I agree that we need to do what we can to reduce the number of them.

McKay has really been playing well.

I agree, more possessions per game equals more TOs, however last year we averaged 12 per game and this year 17. We played the same tempo last year, just took better care of the ball.
From what I have seen, we look a little like summer ball at times. Whoever rebounds takes off with the ball and we get out of control, as I said it's early.

With that said, I will say that it looked absolutely stupid and completely ridiculous that one of the brand new scoreboards does not go to 100!  So one end read 104-69, other side 04-69.

Do you think anyone in the gym was confused about the score?  ;)

The WARHAWKS beat Lewis & Clark 76-66.  We had a 12 point lead in the first half but L&C made a run over that last five minutes to close the gap to 44-40 at half.  But L&C never got closer than seven points in the second half.  Matt Goodwin led all scorers with 26 points and Myles McKay had a double-double 18 points, 14 rebounds.  Kori Vernon added 10 points and Tyson Kingsby came off the bench to score 9 points and add 6 rebounds.  The WARHAWKS dominated the boards once again 40-28 and shot a season high 61% from the floor.

It is really impressive that McKay is leading the team in rebounds per game...as well as scoring and assists per game

I like the collection of guards the Warhawks have this year with the addition of Kingsby...he adds a defensive presence at that position that wasn't there last year....plus, Koski seemed to be worn down by the end of last year

I agree, Mckay has been impressive. I was at the 1st game against Wi lutheran and watched game #2 on local tv.

Regarding Kingsby I think the opposite is true, I think he adds some offense but the game I was at he looked lost off the ball, his ball pressure was good however. And I was at all three WIAC tourney games last year and I didn't notice Koskie being worn down as a matter of fact against Point I would say the opposite was true.

What worries me about this years team is the # of tournovers so far. (65 in 4 games) They seem to have lost the structure they had last year. It is early.

Hey Whitewater guys....

Any truth to the rumor that former Evansville College and Milwaukee King standout Dupree Flethcer was practicing with the Warhawk's earlier in the season?

The rumor has been floating around, so I was just curious if there was any substance to it.

No truth to it at all.

A couple of weeks ago (River Falls game) I was sitting near a UWW TV announcer when he said that Perry would try to be back by the first round of the playoffs....seeing as Rob was still in a walking boot last week it doesn't appear that he will be back by tomorrow

Of course, I heard from a poster that listened to Stoutguy's radio show on Saturday morning, after interviewing Pat Miller, that Matt Goodwin, who hadn't played all week due to a concussion, was doubtful in the WIAC Final.  Guess what, he started and played 35 minutes.  ??? ::) :P
I read that post also.
The poster was not correct. Miller said ----Goodwin had to be cleared by a doctor which would not happen until later in the day----  and even if he was cleared they would still have to determine if the Point game was worth the risk. I guess it was ;)

Kelly had foul problems that limited his minutes though if he was sick that could have played into it as well.  He only took three shots.  Wright had 4 assists without a turnover.

Like you say Fred it's tough when you only see a player once or twice but he was quick, strong and he was able to penetrate and dish.  For a while he was dominating play.  If that's what he can do on a good day he'll be a great player if he does it consistantly.

As I was just looking at the boxscore I noticed Kevin Koski had 8 assists and only a single turnover.   I think it's safe to say that his season has taken some fans, myself included, by surprise.  Fortunately it's a pleasant one.   His efforts often go unnoticed because he doesn't score but they're every bit as significant as any others to the success of the regular season.

I agree, Wright was dominate. I felt better when he was not on the floor.
Regarding Koski you are absolutely correct. His conference assists stats below:

Tournament Tiebreaking Criteria
The following tie-breaking criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical records:

1. Head-to-head competition between tied teams.
2. Cumulative Won/Loss record vs. teams placed higher in the conference standings.
3. Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order (i.e., #1 seed, #2 seed).
4. Team with the best road record in conference games.
5. Coin toss conducted by the WIAC commissioner.

Just Bill,

My understanding would be this...and my translation, I guess.

Platteville and Oshkosh would tie at 11-5.  Platteville would win that tie breaker with Oshkosh because they beat them head to head.  Thus, Platteville would be 3rd and Oshkosh 4th.

Whitewater and Stevens Point split, so they would go to #3, record vs. teams in decending order (i.e. #1 seed, #2 seed, #3 seed)

Point would be 2-0 against the #3 seed Platteville, while Whitewater was only 1-1 vs. Platteville, hence, Point getting the #1 seed.

Maybe I'm reading into that wrong.  I'm no expert.

I believe your are correct. If Osh wins they will be 12-4 --STP wins PLT will be 11-5 ---OSH will be the 3 seed. WW 1-1 vrs OSH and STP 0-2. IF it plays out this way WW will be the #1 seed and STP #2.

By your observation's, janesville, did TVD and Oshkosh seem to make any adjustments in the game? I mean, if you can't get open looks for Miller and Schrimpf, then you have to go elsewhere.

Having Jordan Johnson taking shots from 20 feet plus sounds like they were settling for whatever Whitewater gave them.

Second straight year Oshkosh loses by double digits late in the year at Whitewater.

Hopefully the Titans take care of the pesky Yellowjackets on Saturday.

No adjustments really. Osh set screens for the shooters, dumped it into DSA or Marsh trying to attack the basket. DSA had a decent game but just didn't get much help.

WW seem to control the tempo all game--either Koski pushing and finding the open man for early offense, if nothing was there WW took the shot clock deep and Mckay took over.

I think tonight was a statement game for Whitewater.

On paper, cause I wasn't at the game tonight, either A) Whitewater played amazing defense against Oshkosh, having Matt Miller and Jordan Johnson shoot a combined 5-24 from the field or B) Oshkosh couldn't make shot to save their lives.

Whitewater had 13 assists, while Oshkosh had 4...

Okay, I'm done pulling out numbers here. Tonight Myles McKay went off against Oshkosh, big time, and I would really like to know who was guarding him?

Also, why did Jordan Johnson take 12 shots tonight, with 4 of those from beyond the arc?

I'm just confused, Oshkosh start off great, leading the first 10 minutes of the game, and then it went downhill from then on.

Would love to hear a game recap from Whitewater.

Marsh was on Mckay and at times Johnson really didn't matter Mckay had it going.

Goodwin and Koski were on Miller and Schrimpf and neither really had many clean looks, many of their 3's were rushed. Since neither ever really attempted to take it to the hoop they were easy to guard.

Johnson had to bring the ball up the floor often--and WW let him shoot from outside, his 3's were all from about 22'. He looked like he was trying to make something happen.
Not amazing D just solid.

I have a question for the Whitewater folks, is the status for Rob Perry been updated recently?
Will he be able to play again this year, and for the sake of my fantasy basketball team tomorrow , can he play against Platteville? (I know the answer to that question, it's just a fool's hope)

Lastest from Rob is that he is "hoping" to play vrs Oshkosh. However on Sat.  Miller said he was done for the year.

Truth or not, doesn't matter. You are digging out the grave, pulling the dead horse out, and you keep kicking it.

Superior's earned a huge win on the road at Eau Claire. They've learned their mistakes, and have moved on.

Here's a question for Whitewater, can they stop Dan Beyer this week? He's been avg. 22.5 ppg and 7 rebounds.

Without Rob Perry, and following a loss for Eau Claire, this could be an Upset Special Alert.

They should win, but it won't be easy.

Accuracy always matters!

As for stopping Beyer--nope WW can not. Hopefully  they can stop everyone else.
Can EC stop WW? WW scores in a hurry. If the pace is up WW wins easily--if not an upset is always possible.

Welcome back, J-villebb! While you were gone, a few more games have been played. Life goes on; UWS vs UWW is the dead horse. Stop beating it.

Just answering a post.
Truth hurts the UWS group I guess.

How did this whole thing get started?  Dwight Hill drove the lane and got his shot blocked, not by the guy that was guarding him, but by the helpside defender.  When the shot was blocked, the guy that was guarding him, who didn't block the shot started smacking his chest and yelled "Get that S*** out of here!".  Which was loud enough for many of the fans to hear.  So why did the officials not stop the game there or T-up the UWW player for doing this???

Then the next Hill comment.....results in an ejection.

Cody-1-kastern

When you have to fabricate to make a point your posts are not worth reading.
Unless the WW players are ventriloquists you are making things up.

Also Hill was not given a T on his next comment. Things between Hill and Goodwin were getting out of hand. Prior to WW inbounding, Hill pushed Goodwin who fell (acting? maybe) That was T1- before the officials sorted it out Hill got in McKay's face T2.

Maybe it was the refs fault that UWW outrebounded Superior 55-36.  Warhawks highest rebounding total in a game since 12/5/98 vs. Stout.

Of course! What other possible reason could there be?
