WOW - People are talking about Millikin now.  I do believe the school realizes that it has fallen behind, and I do believe that is why they are going to be spending several millions of dollars the next couple years to get the campus where it needs to be.

All programs have swings with their programs - Look at the Irish at ND last year.

Millikin's campus is very impressive overall.  I'm not to worrired about what was said with the drinking aspect that was mentioned earlier.  I went to college just like the rest of you and you all know what it is like.

We will just have to wait and see how things turn out.......

All I know is my son will get a college education and is playing the best game ever(Football).

GO BIG BLUE

Your son made a good choice, the campus is great and everytime I have been down there, it seems to get better.  If the big blue continue to make renovations to their facilities, the football program should get back in line.  Some of the staff, including the head coach, were there during the run they made during the late 90's early 00's.

I ll admit the conference as a whole has gotten a heck of alot better since then, but as the one of the lone millikin posters I'm keeping the faith alive.

Thanks for giving me some motivation GS, I am going to make bracelets with the WWBMD slogan and send them to the team  ;),,,By the way having watched bob play numerous times he was a great player, despite all his shenanigans.

After some early morning research,,

Millikin with Bob Meyer- 1998-2001- 32 wins- 8 losses

Millikin after Bob Meyer- 2002 to 2005- 24 wins- 16 losses

Millikin long after Bob Meyer- 2006 to present- 5 wins - 15 losses

wow, kind of a ridiculous back lash.  My original post was to dispute the claim that Decatur is not in the middle of no where for recruiting purposes.  I went off on the social life tangent, but all in all Millikin is a solid place to go to school, academically and socially.  And I kind of liked the top ten list, very funny (albeit at my own expense)

I also based my argument on proximity to other large schools with more bars than just the ones in decatur.  bottom line is Millikin needs those new facilities/recruits because if we lose to north park the wheels could come off.

While "googling" on another unrelated topic, I stumbled on another Florida recruit committed to Millikin.  Anthany "Spud" Wingo.

does anyone know if there are any chicago area kids going down to Millikin?

There was, but they actually visited Decatur and changed their minds!!   ;D

It wasn't too long ago that kids left naperville and wheaton to come to millikin.  And decatur is not a bad place,,I guess if you want to spend your whole life sheltered then live at home with your parents and stay in naperville.

Wow... CardinalAlum hit a nerve there.  Or should I say severed a nerve?

First of all, I'm sure CardinalAlum does live with his parents.  :P

But I find it hard to believe most people would prefer Decatur over the western suburbs of Chicago.  Yes I know it is a matter of taste, but the difference in population between Decatur vs. western suburbs might shine a bit of light on this.

Decatur (and surrounding area) - about 125,000
Western suburbs - somewhere around a million or so

I guess if you want to live on the edge, in a carnival atmosphere, where the fun never ends, Decatur is the place.  :-\ ::)

College life and normal life is quite different. Lets compare the opportunities to party,

Decatur-45 minutes from Illinois State,,,,1 hour from University of Illinois,,,,1.5 hours from St. Louis,,,,,Three bars right next to campus, including the best non-white trash bar in Decatur.

Western Suburbs- Chicago,, gotta love the city, but I doubt that students at wheaton and north central are going into the city to go bar hopping, most college kids dont have 150$ to blow on drinks on a saturday night,,,university of chicago, not going to party in the library,,,northwestern, same thing

Rock Island- It is decatur except on the mississippi,,,,close to iowa city

So the difference between night life at these school is negligible (I will concede to the carnival atmosphere of the city of decatur).  Then it comes down to how close you want to live to your parents while in college, football facilities, and the recruiting ability of the coaches.

Millikin Fan here......

I know that Millikin has spent a ton of money on the locker rooms - I've seen them and they are nice.

I also know that they are trying to determine what the new surface will be for the field.

My son has be accepted to Millikin and will be on the team next year.  I'm looking forward to his future on getting a great education from Millikin and continuing to play the game he loves.

I'm always traveling and I really enjoy sites like this.

Good to hear that millikin is improving facilities. Did they renovate the old locker rooms in griswald or did they add a new building somewhere? I havent been down in decatur for a while.

As an occassional observer of the postings I have also noticed the lack of millikin support so i figured I would bring back the love for decatur. Go Big Blue.
