Not long now until tipoff and I know a lot of us hate-filled Calvin fans have been needling our friends from Hope quite a bit this week about who we will or will not root for. But, I just want you to know that I will cheer for the orange and blue this weekend.

Aren't all fans of a team homogenous? Doesn't what one or two do represent every single person that has ever set foot on that campus, and erase all other information about the instituation?
Now that's just going way too far and is really quite offensive! You mean to say if one or two are homo, they all are? I demand an apology!

Team capsules:
http://www.hollandsentinel.com/sports/x617077414/NCAA-Division-III-Tournament-Mens-capsules
I found it hard to believe this is UW Platteville's first trip to the NCAA's since 1998 like the "capsule" states. Probably because UWP won the 1999 National Championship.
During the 90's they were a fixture in March, they made the tournament every year from 91-99 and bost an unbelievable 30-5 tournament record with 4 National Championships. 1991, 1995, 1998, 1999
I wouldn't expect anything less from that wonderful publication!![]()

If you're referring to the letter in the GR Press from the two presidents then it was in the late-1980s (unless there were more than one). Things were much worse in those days. The low point had to be when 100s of Calvin fans chanting 'Pedro-Pedro-Pedro...' as an insult to a Hope player with dark skin and black hair (Denison?). They also threw pizza boxes at the guy . . . it was out of hand. It happened, I was there (on the Calvin side).
[/quote]
There was also the time, years ago, when the Calvin fans, at Knollcrest, held up dozens and dozens of empty pizza boxes when the Hope players were introduced, a slam at former football player Rick Blesch who, earlier that summer, had allegedly (not sure how the trial turned out) beat up a pizza delivery driver 'cause Rick didn't have any money to pay for the pie.
I understand Mr. Ray Smith was very, very irate with that little display.
I'm sure there are many others. That one stands out in my mind.
On a positive note, except for a few empty bottles and towels tossed out of the stands at the Hope fans who were celebrating on Calvin's floor, the kids were rather subdued. I heard they were reminded that they did the same thing at Hope a couple of years ago and were told to let it go.

Perhaps the coaches took Caleb's 3 game injury into account. I'm sure if you asked most of the coaches Caleb was high on the defensive assignment list.

7. Knight Fans: This is our house.
Dew Crew: You can't fill it.
KF: You can't beat us.
DC: 86-85! 86-85!
Others included, "Leprechaun" when Dan Cox took the floor and the many chants of All-i-son when Peter Bunn had the ball, a reference to his girlfriend who attends Calvin.
And at the end, the Hope fans: "This one matters!"

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the third time this year, the Knights squared off
against a Saint Mary's team amid a "season of firsts," where the Belles
turned in their best conference campaign since joining the MIAA in 1997-98.
And for the third time this year – for the third time ever, as a matter of
fact – Calvin suffered a loss to the No. 2-seeded Belles, this time in the
MIAA Tournament semifinals.
Everyone join with me in saying ... ."Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

I've said this before and I'll say it again ... and again ... and again.
Entities like Major League Baseball and all other sports organizations could prevent a lot of headaches with two awards: Most Valuable Player, which is what Mr. Mantel seems to be to his (championship) team and Player of the Year, which is what Mr. Reimink seems to be in most everyone's eyes.
I'd hate to see the kind of bickering that went on like the year Cecil Fielder hit something like 51 homers and had a whole lotta RBIs but Rickey Henderson won the MVP because his team was a championship-caliber team.
Doesn't that make sense?

Concerning fights and cheap shots. I admire Tom Crean at Indiana. After looking at the film he suspended Dumes indefinitely. Good way to handle it. I don't think Dumes will try anything anymore. Concerning Calvin-Hope fights. It wasn't a big one, but the tangle at mid court at the Civic Center in Holland in 2002 or 2003. Jeremy Veenstra, Rob Holleman, Phil Visser involved with Hope players. One hope player ejected for throwning a punch.

Terry Smith had to bail early because he got married Saturday evening. Funny that he runs such a slowdown offense, yet he couldn't get off campus fast enough to say "I Do." Congrats, coach!!!!!! Too bad Hope was not in a celebratory mood when they said "No, you don't."

Hope outscored Kzoo at the freethrow line by 22 , so that should please the conspiracy theorists.
35-10 FT discrepancy. Kzoo finishes with 6 more FG's than Hope.

Attendance at Adrian for that one was 489. Safe to say most of them were wearing black and gold.
