Ypsi, very sorry for your loss.

Best of luck to Chris!  He would do well at Loras.

IWU is getting Straughtered...

I have long been looking for the excuse to use that.  Please forgive me.

Nice!

EC needed those rebounds.  They only shot 39%.  Elmhurst did not shoot well in all 3 games against NCC this season.

Quite a finish!  That win may save the Bluejays.

That makes sense.  Augustana is definitely in and North Central is in good shape.  No matter what happens in the NCC-ELM game on Friday, the Cardinals will be ahead of the Bluejays.

If Illinois Wesleyan beats Elmhurst for the CCIW tourney title, could the CCIW get 4 teams in the D3 tourney?
I know it's a crazy thought.

Augie 76
NCC   68

NCC:

* Jagger Anderson: 19 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal.
Like most players, especially those at the D3 level, Jagger has his deficiencies. However, there is possibly one player in the conference, and I doubt many within the Division, who can drive through most of the opposition and finish as spectacularly as Mr. Anderson. This has been happening regularly lately. Yes, I am a bit biased. So, ask an Augie fan who was at the game tonight.

* Kevin Honn: 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, and a game high 9 rebounds.

* Jayme Moten: 11 points

* Erwin Henry: 10 points

AUGIE:

* Hunter Hill: 25 points (9/13, 5/8)

* Ben Ryan: 21 points (9/15)

You need not have even passed Basketball 101 to understand NCC had little ability to either defend Hill on the perimeter or Ryan on the interior. Whenever it looked like the Cardinals might mount a run of any kind Mr. Outside or Mr. Inside would seemingly score at will. Hill needed but a split second to launch one of his long range missiles, and Ryan muscled inside or hit the 6-7 foot baseline jumper with little resistance. No other western Viking scored in double figures.

I still can't believe some of the shots that Jagger Anderson made last night.  Hunter Hill made some three's at very crucial points of the 2nd half last night.  As AndOne said, Augustana always had an answer after a run by the Cardinals.

Augustana went 5-1 against NCC, ELM, and NPU.  They deserve the regular season title.

North Park travels to Wheaton tonight.  Might there be a let-down from the Vikes after their devastating OT loss to Augie on Saturday?  Can the Thunder build confidence from a very solid performance at NCC on Saturday and bring the intensity for 40 mins?  Can they contain either Henry or Robinson(we'll take 1 out of 2) and not forget Lake, Cobbs and the others?  Can Berg and the team keep Robinson from dominating the boards? And finally- will there be a prayer circle?

Very tough decision tonight - I'm tempted to head to Gregory for practically a guaranteed Augie/NCC barn burner but will probably opt for King Arena.

I usually choose Elmhurst first but I will probably head to Gregory Arena tonight.  Should be as good as the Augie-Elmhurst game in Elmhurst on January 6th.  Could be another overtime game.  So much riding on this one.  Can't wait!

This may have been discussed in years past, but why did the CCIW start a conference tournament?  It's great for the fans, and gives a bubble team a chance to get the AQ.  But, it's really hard on the pool C candidates if they don't win it.  If a team doesn't win the tournament, their W% will always go down (going 0-1 or 1-1 in the tourney).

This year it looks like it might impact NCC unless they go 12-2.  Without the conference tournament, they would look better for Pool C at 11-3.

I'm sure it's impacted others in past years.

I would also like to see all 8 teams in it.  It would give a struggling team hope in the "rough days" of late January and February.  Carroll University joining next season would make that a bit tricky.

It is actually Selection Sunday since all of the work is done on that day... we just don't see the announcement until Monday.

That makes sense.

Thanks again!

I had not noticed NCC's SOS before Sager's post.  #1!  The Cardinals did play a very tough pre CCIW schedule.  I hope that is considered if they don't get the CCIW's automatic qualifier and are on the bubble at selection time.

I thought NCC should have made it last year and Carthage the year before.

But we have been here before with NCC or another CCIW team a few years ago (NCC? Carthage? Coming up with a complete blank right now). A great SOS is nice, but at some point a committee is going to want to see a team win more games against that SOS. There isn't a definite line in terms of how many losses is too many as it varies year to year based on what is going on around the country, but the one thing that remains constant is a great SOS with more than a fair share of losses isn't going to get a team an at-large berth. Sure, their SOS is going to be considered, but so are the losses and the WL%, more importantly.

Cardinals have five losses right now. They would have six if they don't have the AQ and that I think is a safe number, but do we really think they get through the rest of the CCIW schedule unscathed? For argument's sake, let's say they finish with eight losses... that puts them squarely in the trouble-zone come Selection Sunday no matter the SOS.

Great points, D-Mac!  I think an 8th loss makes Selection Sunday (or is it Monday?) a scary day.

After 4 losses in the pre CCIW part of their schedule, the Cardinals have definitely played their way back into contention.

Another 6-1 stretch should get them in.  5-2 or less in the 2nd half of CCIW play probably means they need to win the CCIW tourney.
