Tufts is an improved team because Sheldon can't stand on the sidelines this year yelling "look for Jon"; "see Jon"; "look at Jon". Having the team they had in the last 2 years with 2 players averaging between 15-20 pts & among the top 10  in all of NESCAC, yet still only winning a half dozen games is a coaching travesty.  Most everyone else was forced to stand around while coach tried to make Pierce a hero. Good luck to this year's Jumbos. It is a team game men!

Not to take away from the early season activity but there was an Awesome story on ESPN this morning called "Picking Up Butch." Kudos to Middlebury football and basketball players who have carried on a fifty year old tradition of picking up Butch Varno (has Cerebral Palsy) from a nursing home and taking him to every home football & basketball game. Job well done gentlemen!

Agreed. Intentional and very unhealthy. One visiting player on  a womens' team who has a pacemaker-like heart monitor was unable to get off the bench after pre-game warm ups. I heard the NCAA would not allow them to host a game unless they turned the temp. down.

Yeah, there are still a couple of us. You're right Harrigan had a heck of a game. The last shot however, doesn't tell the story of the sequence. After the rebound of a missed shot bounced around a bit, the ball went off the leg of a Conn player. Pierce chased the ball out of bounds preventing anyone else from getting to it, certain it would go to Tufts. The the ref, however, called it out on Tufts and gave Conn the ball. The rest as they say... is history. Very brutal weekend is right!

Tried to get online stream for Colby @ Tufts last night with no success. Can't get Bowdoin @ Tufts today. Anyone else have a problem? Womens' game is on now but no stream. I do have online connection so that is not the issue.

"...Though one of my pet peeves has been the quality of the officials  in D3 games and I have been known to question calls at live games, enough said about the officiating in what was a well fought Amherst/Williams game.
Note that even announcers question calls in D1 BB games..."

Must be my imagination that many, if not, most DIII refs are out of touch with rules, amount of contact allowed, bench behavior, fan behavior, etc. There are rules for all of those issues, but most don't even pay attention. They don't work as a team either. I'm not a Bob Knight fan, however, he made a great point on ESPN at the beginning of the season - To paraphrase - referees no longer have control of college basketball games. They are not the least bit consistent, nor do they follow their own guidelines.

Absolutely the worst coached game I have ever seen. Tufts up by 4 with 23 seconds. Sheldon calls for no fouls and the team gives up an uncontested 3. Now he has no time outs left so when they inbound the ball, it is stolen & P.S. player gets fouled & makes 1+1 to win the game when Jumbos can't score with 8 seconds left. He has absolutely no concept of the game; how to manage players, time; subs; or the clock!!!

Believe it or not. Tufts Team chemistry is good. The guys still believe in each other and are not critical of each other. They make mistakes; they know it; They insist they can recover. It didn't help matters last night that Mason didn't play much and was in a boot after the game. Not sure exactly what the injury is, but that can't be good. He brings a real spark to the team when he is in there. I agree they have depended on one guy for far too long.

Nothing going right for the Jumbos right now. Not shooting well; twice the number of turnovers as assists. Seems like they're playing with no heart. Not thrilled with coaching decisions either. They got up by 12 in the first half and Sheldon subbed in four out of five. Subs let Lesley back in the game, then starters struggled to get it back. Similar situation in the second half. On the other hand, Coach looked to get the ball inside, but guys come in and are airing it out from all over the place. Not a lot of discipline going on there at this time.

Well put Tuftsalumni. Cookie needs to shoot the ball. Jumbos definately need at least one more scorer they can count on. Sam Mason is working his butt off. He is a good defender and hustles all over the court. Look for him to get more time. As far as Selby is concerned, my feeling is that he has an awful lot on his plate during the off season...travels the world, a real free spirit. That doesn't leave much time for basketball or conditioning. He is out of shape and a non-factor right now.

Beyel needs to be taking 15-18 shots @ game. Last year he averaged 45-50% and only got about 25 min.@ game playing time while averaging 14ppg. Rolled his ankle in the first 2 min. of opening game and is still feeling the effects. Regarding Pierce not shooting, he is being double & triple teamed and Sheldon will have to figure a way out of that. Beyel will figure his stroke out and be a major contributor. Good point about the freshmen. Rest of the seniors are not producing (and really never have) so someone needs to step up.

Anyone notice the NESCAC home page and individual stats link? Must be some kind of glich in the page. It lists only AMH, BOW, & BATES stats and has such stats as 4.3, 6.7, 10.2 ppg. listed as leaders in scoring categories with most other categories missing all together. Didn't find any way to contact the web master to notify.

Check Pierce's assists for the season. Assists are not in his repertoire. Also keep in mind Beyel as a 3 plays mostly outside or baseline and while he didn't hit 50% last night, he is the only player shooting over 50% for the season. I agree Gallant is also shooting well and could see the ball more. Pierce on the other hand, would better serve this team by banging inside but he likes to be everywhere and shoot from everywhere. This team is also averaging 22 turnovers a game. Can't win with that. Last night was the 2nd time this season where they started out early with a 15 point lead and can't hold on - disappointing
