A few pages back someone mentioned IWC college not getting into the IIAC.  This may be old news but last week their basketball coach Alan Magnani was fired because he refused to publically support the colleges move to D3.  IWC has since name Jess Settles as their Head Basketball Coach.   I can only imagine all of the pump fakes that are happening in Mt Pleasant these days.

Warthog--I heard that you made it down for a few games this year...sorry that we don't have near enough seating  ;D    Thanks for the support!!

As a Wartburg grad...I know for a fact that I have lived the past 7 years of my life in complete awe of Central College.  In fact, I have a hard time looking in the mirror every day because of the shame I feel for going to Wartburg instead of Central.  Thank you Knightslayer101...thank you

As a native of the area...all I can say is that I am proud of Clinton.  Way to go!

warthog has been doing some soul searching into what school should replace Cornell in the IIAC.  Now, with the news that Flavor Flav is opening up a fried chicken restaurant in Clinton...the former home of Wartburg College...he is throwing his support behind Ashford University ;D

Walston,

Good luck Friday!

Good luck to the Knights as well.  Great season so far and it should be a great game in Waverly this weekend.

Great win for the Knights last week...keep it up!

Great discussion about safety and football.  It seems to me that most of the serious neck injuries have occured on special teams.  I know they have changed the rules regarding setting up a wedge and/or wedge busting to cut down on some of the violent hits.  It would not surprise me to see more rules being passed to eliminate this, especially with the NFL starting to crack down on some of the helmet to helmet things.

The "highlight" culture of football today is somewhat to blame for some of this.  A few years ago on Monday Night Countdown they had a segment called "jacked up" in which they pointed out the 5 best hits of the week.  Most everyone of those hits was a helmet to helmet on some defenseless player.

At the high school level...the amount of attention given to head injuries has increased a TON within the last 7 years that I have been coaching.  I know that we spend a lot of time teaching the proper tackling form, however once the lights come on we see a lot of our kids leading with their helmets.  In my opinon, the only way to stop this is the refs flagging or kicking out kids that do this intentionaly.

From my point of view (which will have a little bias), Willis is an outstanding coach and would be a good hire for any job out there.  Another thing that is worth thinking about is the number of assistants under Willis that have also moved on to bigger/better jobs in DII or DI.   Turnover within the assistant coaching positions is another transition that programs go through.  Some schools can handle this type of turnover, others have a hard time adjusting.   Just my 2 cents...

Leach was at IWC when Hal Mumme was the head coach.  That also marks the last time that they actually resembled a football team.

Should say "we pound beaver for fun" not "bound beaver for fun"....although, I guess that would have made for an entire different type of t-shirt and/or theme  ;D

Martin leaving GVSU article:

http://www.wndu.com/sports/headlines/80224787.html

Always is an interesting time of year with coaches leaving one place for another.

Best win had to be either Homecoming 2000 because of the crazy comeback or the ice house keg/we bound beaver for fun shirts at the "huddle" or 2003 back to back thumpings of Central/Bethel

Worst Loss:  Linfield 03---horrible

Saw on the hawkeye rivals site that Coach Martin is leaving Grand Valley to become the DB's coach at ND.  Wonder how this will shake out for all the Wartburg guys that have are at or have ties to Grand Valley?

Interesting article about Iowa Wesleyan College thinking about switching from NAIA to D3.  After reading the article, it sounds like the President is more for it than any of the coaches.  Ex Football Coach makes a great point about the lack of facilities and how difficult it would be to recruit to IWC if it was a D3 school.  Also sounds as if they decide to go D3, they may be looking at a league in Missouri.

IWC struggles where they are at now...football wise, it would be very difficult for them to be competitive in the IIAC.

It would be nice to have IWC back in D3, although I think they still have a little work left to do before they are at the same level as the rest of the league.  In the past few years they have made more of an effort to recruit players from Iowa.  I do think their staff is moving in the right direction, however time will tell.

It would raise the interest in D3 football in SE Iowa...so that would be a good thing for the area.

I read with interest the article doolittledog had discovered about Iowa Wesleyan and a possible move to NCAA D3.  Living down here in SE Iowa, it would be great if we could get them back in the IIAC.  It would be a nice short trip for us to take in some IIAC contests.

I wonder how serious the discussions of moving to NCAA are in Mt. Pleasant.  If they decide that is what they would like to do, what are the possiblities that the IIAC would take them back?

The problem with a ten team league is that inability to schedule more than one non-conference game.  Perhaps D3 football should go with an eleven game schedule.

It seems the whole goal of Ashford is to be like the University of Phoenix.  My brother worked their a few years ago and he said is was more or less a joke.  If you had a pulse, you could get in.

I would put Clinton #1 on my list of places I would NEVER go to college...

Big game tonight in WDsM of #1 vs #3. I haven't been this nervous for a game since Wartburg vs Monmouth last year.

Good Luck

Go Knights

I think Mrs. Warthog and I will drive over to West Liberty and see how BB's Mepo Bulldogs do against the Comets.

I'll take the Bulldogs and give 6 1/2 points.

I should be a high school football handicapper.  BB's squad wins 21-14.

Yes, sportsknight, I think he has a good team down there.  Unfortunately this week they had a freak practice injury and lost for the season the guy who could arguably be the team's best player.

Warthog,

Truly was a sad deal with our rb going down...really sad story.  On the positive side, all our "running back by committee" needs is a tent and a couple of clowns and we will have a complete circus.
