Washington and Lee's game against Randolph-Macon has been delayed due to travel difficulties for the Yellow Jackets. The game will likely now tip around 3:00.

Listen live with WLUR All Access powered by First Team Broadcasting or watch on B2:

The ODAC uses a points system to determine tiebreakers when head-to-head doesn't work. Based on my understanding of the system and my attempt at calculations, here are the scenarios for ODAC Tournament seeds, with the possible changes from tomorrow's results. I've listed the probable seeding, based on teams with better records winning Saturday (with other possibilities in parentheses):

1. Roanoke (if R-MC wins and ROA loses, then R-MC)
2. Randolph-Macon (if above happens, then ROA)
3. Virginia Wesleyan (if W&L wins and VWC loses, then W&L)
4. W&L (if W&L wins and VWC loses, then VWC; if W&L loses, then BC)
5. Bridgewater (if BC wins, then W&L)
6. Guilford
7. Eastern Mennonite
8. Lynchburg (if E&H wins and LC loses, then E&H)

Let me stress that this is all UNOFFICIAL. I think, though, that I've done the math right.

Salem is going to be WILD!

Any hope of webcasts?

All Washington and Lee games will air on the campus station, WLUR. The free webcast is available at http://wlur.wlu.edu. You need RealPlayer (also free) to listen.

I believe Virginia Wesleyan, Bridgewater and Guilford will also have webcasts of any ODAC Tournament games. And the conference is planning to provide videocasts of the semifinals and championship again.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I can almost guarantee that among the VA-ODAC schools, W&L has the lowest percentage of Virginian undergrads.  The number is probably around 35-40%.  Maybe lower, I don't know.  The point is, as a nationally well-ranked liberal arts college, W&L gets kids from all over the place.

For what it's worth (not much, I'll admit), only 16 percent of W&L undergrads in 2007-08 hail from the Commonwealth.

From Washington and Lee's athletics web site:

The 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Football Media Day is set for Tuesday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m., in the Salem Civic Center. All seven of the ODAC coaches will be on hand to give insight into their squads leading up the first week of play beginning on Saturday, September 1. This year's media day also inaugurates the first LIVE broadcast of the event via the Internet. In conjunction with Future Media Inc., the ODAC will air the entire formal media day in a web broadcast that can be accessed from the ODAC homepage (www.odaconline.com) and/or from Future Media's website (www.futuremediaworld.com). The broadcast is free of charge to all those that wish to take in the event, with live coverage beginning at 11:00 a.m. The formal segment of the event should last roughly 30-45 minutes in duration.

From the ODAC's tournament web site:

ODAC Set to Videocast Tournament Semis and Finals

SALEM, Va. --- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference, in conjunction with the city of Salem, Va., and PennAtlantic, will be offering audio and video service via the Internet during the 2007 ODAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships.

Audio will be available for all men's and women's games.  Rick Seidel and Jeremy Franklin will bring you all the play-by-play action.  For select games, a pair of the ODAC's own will lend their knowledge to color commentary.  Lynchburg College head coach John Swickrath will provided analysis on the men's side while Hollins University mentor Richie Waggoner will dissect the women's action.

For the semi-final and championship rounds, the games will be videocast by PennAtlantic, offering all those an opportunity to watch the games from the comforts of their own homes.  All you need is a high-speed Internet connection and a FREE account set up with PennAtlantic.  Just go to www.pennatlantic.com to create your login and access the games.

Due to the number of games that are being broadcast by the ODAC and PennAtlantic, there may be a $3.00 fee required to access each game.

Here is my best effort at calculating potential ODAC tiebreakers, based on the conference's tiebreaking system:

If E&H (11-7) and Roanoke (11-7) tie for 3rd: E&H
If Roanoke (11-7) wins, and E&H (10-8) and HSC (10-8) tie for 4th: E&H
If Roanoke (11-7) wins, and E&H (10-8) and R-MC (10-8) tie for 4th: R-MC
If E&H (11-7) wins, and Roanoke (10-8) and HSC (10-8) tie for 4th: Roanoke
If E&H (11-7) wins, and Roanoke (10-8) and R-MC (10-8) tie for 4th: R-MC
If W&L (6-12) and Bridgewater (6-12) tie for 7th: Bridgewater

The fourth-place ties, in a sense, are meaningless, as it determines who wears the white jerseys in the quarterfinals. But now, the really fun ones:

If E&H, Roanoke and HSC (10-8) tie for 3rd: (3) E&H, (4) Roanoke, (5) HSC
If E&H, Roanoke and R-MC (10-8) tie for 3rd: (3) R-MC, (4) E&H, (5) Roanoke

I believe Randolph-Macon would have that last tiebreaker because of their head-to-head records--i.e., R-MC won three out of the four games (a sweep of Roanoke and a split with E&H) against the other two teams that they would tie. Of course, that scenario requires both Emory & Henry and Roanoke to lose on Saturday.

I wouldn't swear to anything above in a court of law, but hopefully I'm close on figuring out those tiebreakers.

Men's soccer / Re: World Cup 2006

Oh yeah, if it was up to me, Tommy Smyth and whoever he's paired up with should do every game.  Screw Balboa, Rob Stone and that Shepp guy.  Harkes isn't too bad.

Old School, your comments on ESPN's announcers piqued my interest as a soccer broadcaster.

Tommy Smyth is always a joy to listen to, and his play-by-play cohort is also good: Adrian Healey, who is the studio host for ESPN's coverage of the Champions League and other European football matches. I also agree that John Harkes has come into his own this World Cup, working with my favorite American analyst in J.P. Dellacamera.

Speaking of whom, does anyone know why Dellacamera was shelved as the No. 1 play-by-play announcer by ESPN? He's called games for the network for years, but for some reason he's taken a backseat to Dave O'Brien--who, while a great broadcaster overall, had never called a football match until this year.

While his lack of experience with the sport has been somewhat apparent at times, I think O'Brien has done a fine job of catching on to the spectacle that is the World Cup. And Old School, you're too harsh on Rob Stone. He knows his soccer.

Cheers to England. Wayne Rooney will start up front for the Brits as they look to take down Ljungberg, Ibrahimovic and the Swedes. And who would've thunk it, that Trinidad & Tobago are mathematically alive entering the final game of the group stage?

Aha... I found the post you were referring to. It was a different poster, who goes by the moniker of gogenerals, and not me (gogenerals04), who made that prediction. Again, I'm not trying to annoy, but I was racking my brain trying to figure out when I made a prediction on this board. I tearfully apologize for any hardship that I have caused.

Macon and Wesleyan fans, we will have your men's and women's games against W&L on the web this weekend at:

You posted a few days ago that W&L would beat Bridgewater last night. I took that as a pick'em. You are hereby officially exhiled...as per your request. ;D

Not to be a bother, but I never posted a prediction about last night's game. I think that must have been one of the other Generals fans on the board...

Steelyglen, how did I end up in the pick 'em contest? I don't remember making a prediction--that might challenge my objectivity as a broadcaster. Or something like that.

Boy, did the Wolfpack look awful last night, although Iowa didn't look any better. I hear they're re-airing the game on Comedy Central this weekend...

Region 6 women's basketball / Bridgewater @ W&L
November 30, 2005, 08:08:39 AM
Bridgewater led W&L, 35-21, late in the first half when a power outage hit the Washington and Lee campus and half of Lexington. Generals sophomore point guard Emily Wolff had just launched a three-pointer, and right as the ball hit the basket the Warner Center went dark. (The shot was good and was counted by the officiating crew.)

Needless to say, the game was suspended and will be resumed at a later date--possibly tonight, now that power has been restored here. I will post details once I find out about the reschedule.
