Update from Crestview Hills:

Thomas More falls to Oglethorpe 65-55.

Oglethorpe led by 8 at the half, but TMC ties it up at 11:55 and the two teams duke it out for the next several minutes.  Oglethorpe then re-takes the lead for good with 7:52 remaining.

And so the first unbeaten team falls...

(and a little more "red" for your post, David  :'( )

I'm not quite sure what the hold-up is in reporting the Medaille/Scranton score, but according to Medaille's website:

http://www.medaille.edu/mavericks/

Lady Mavs Continue Hunt for Title

(Scranton, PA) - For the second time in three years the Medaille College women's basketball team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament. They did so by holding off a stubborn University of Scranton team (56-54). It was a sloppy game for both squads as they managed only (38) points in the first half of play as Medaille headed to the locker room with a (22-17) advantage. The second half would see both teams enjoying leads with Scranton holding the advantage late by six. Senior, guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was terrific down the stretch as she scored (12) of her team high (14) points in the second stanza. The Lady Mavs will face the University of Rochester in round number two. Those two teams faced each other in the same round of the 2006 tournament with the Yellowjackets advancing. Earlier this year Medaille pasted Rochester on their home floor (67-51). With their win over Scranton the Lady Mavs match their best record ever at (26-2). Their game against Rochester will be tomorrow (3/8) at 7:00pm in Scranton, PA. The winner of that game will head to the Sweet 16.

Update from Crestview Hills:

Thomas More over Greensboro 76-63.

(This was a really close game - TMC leading by no more than 5 points - until TMC started to pull away with about 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd half).

Congrats to B-W Yellow Jackets on beating the DYC Lady Spartans 83-53.  D'Youville has nothing to be ashamed of - they played with a lot of heart, but just lacked the big-game experience to respond to B-W's tenacious defense, and recover from an early 17-0 run.  B-W couldn't miss a shot in the first half and led 47-21 at the break.

DYC tried to rebound in the second stanza, but struggled to make shots.  The Yellow Jacket's lead ballooned out to nearly 40 at one point but D'Youville was able to reel that back to 30 by the time the final whistle blew.

Best wishes against Hope tomorrow, ladies!  If you play as well as you did tonight, it will be a closely contested match!

This is a great poll question. Hope you don't mind if I borrow it and put it on the front page.

By all means, Pat.  Go right ahead.  :)

I'll go out on a limb, and put my final 4 out there.  Laugh/criticize all you want, or feel free to post your own thoughts & reasons why your picks are the ones that will be right.

Messiah
UW Stevens Point
Hope
Amherst

Hope takes it all in the end, but it will be close.

They talked about this on the radio broadcast following the announcement of the bracket pairings, and tried to explain that the selection committee always gets its hands tied up every year because of the regional and geographic restrictions, as well as the alternate-year gender prioritization of regional/sectional hosting sites.

I don't think that 100% of the population will ever be satisfied with all of the match-ups, but without seeding, it makes it that much easier for spectators to pick away at and question those match-ups...

DYC is tickled pink that it gets the first ever automatic bid ever from the NEAC, as well as the first appearance from any of its sporting teams in an NCAA tournament (save for Men's Volleyball which is a whole 'nother ball of wax with NECVA...).

Of course, I can't help but have a chill run down my spine looking at the predicted brackets on D3hoops.com and the potential first round match-up against Hope.  Here's to "hope-ing" that the predictions don't prove accurate!
