I wasn't able to be at the game last night, but as I was driving home from work and listening to the game on the radio, it sounded like bowser was a monster last night. I know about his summer preparations for this year, but what he did was unexpected to me, nonetheless. I know he has the potential (I've thought that since the first few times I saw him running around the court his freshman year), but is it realistic to believe that he can put up games like this on a consistent basis throughout the season?

Overall, an unexciting game this afternoon. Poor shooting all around.

Venema, Carter, and King were the only three to not play.

With the way that Krombeen played today, I don't see any reason that Carter will get much, if any, playing time for a while.

Mr Y may have called this one: Djurickovic is doing a number on the Dutchmen. 31 points and 9 assists.

I haven't done the research on this one, but my sense is that a team that gets badly blown out at some point in the season will never be able to advance too far in the postseason (bad news for MSU fans). I thought Carthage would be a tough game, but I didn't expect it to be this one-sided.

3-pointers and free throws appear to be the difference.

I would tend to agree. However, even if it was an exception to the rule, let's not so quickly forget the results of Hope vs. Wheaton in the CCIW-MIAA challenge last year and how far Raymond eventually brought them in the postseason. Elite 8 isn't so shabby! So hey, let's not lose too much hope yet! :)

Stinger, have you heard anything about any recruits heading to K next year? Maybe a big man to fill Kellogg's shoes?

Klein, Carter, DVS, Bosch. All of these guys were quite good this year defensively, particularly on game changing guards. I don't know if they would have forced Olson into 8 TO, but they would have been able to do a good job. After all, they forced Kent Raymond into a lot of turnovers and held him in check when they played Wheaton twice this year. And Raymond is arguably a better player than Olson.

As for the physicality of the WashU-Hope game, yes, it was physical, but I've seen a few more physical games that Hope has been in this year. Maybe it has to do with the style of play in the midwest/great lakes regions, as compared to out east, but this style of physical D did not surprise me a ton. Heck, Capital, OWU, and Wheaton all played incredibly physically against us. There were times when I thought the Wheaton game was turning into a football game, and there were a few times this past Friday against WashU where I saw it too, but it wasn't the physicality that bothered me, it was the inconsistency by the refs in calling the game that was the most appalling part.

I think the Nelis on the swim team is a different person. I've heard that there is a transfer coming in next year, so we'll see if that all pans out! It sure wouldn't hurt!

All-Region teams are up. Congrats to Marcus Vanderheide for making 1st team all region! Also congrats to GVW for coach of the year! And as much as I do have a disliking for all things Calvin, it's good to see Caleb Veldhouse make 2nd team all region. He once again proved to be a good leader for Calvin this year, no matter what their record indicates.

This board is fertile soil for backhanded compliments..... :D (and I'm sure I'm as guilty as any in this dep't)

But seriously, I'm sorry to hear that you "have a disliking for all things Calvin", I would much rather it be "an intense desire to beat us when we face each other in athletic competition" and nothing more!

That's probably closer to what it is. I guess I probably misstated my own feelings! After all, I have many friends who go to or have gone to Calvin, and I respect it as a solid institution. And I did almost go there! :o :)

Also, I hope my compliment of Veldhouse wasn't seen as backhanded. It's unfortunate that their record wasn't as good this year as many people predicted, and I'm sure we have done a great job this year pointing out all of those things. I was just saying that through all of their troubles this year, Velhouse was a tremendous competitor every game and the kind of leader that every team wishes they could have. I hope this clears it up a little!

Anyone know if they're doing something for the Dew Crew?

Since I'm a student, that's what I'm particularly interested in finding out!

When you purchase tickets, are they going to be assigned seats, or are they general admission? Does anyone have any idea?

That would be great if you could give us an eye witness account of the game!

What's a few hundred dollars to fly out to beautiful Holland, Michigan and see some great basketball? I'd recommend it! Then you wouldn't have to rely on my poor account! ;)

Since I like to look ahead...assuming WW beats Wheaton, they will face either Hope or Ohio Wesylan.  Obviously WW wouldn't like to see Hope on their floor, but Ohio Wesylan has been playing very well lately.  I will be pulling for Ohio Wes...even though they are on a hot streak, they look like a better opponent then Hope.

If by better opponent, you mean easier, then I would agree. There is a reason that Hope is ranked #1 in the country. Since their last loss, which was against Albion 11 games ago, Hope has scored 883 points, or 88.3 points/game. They have held their opponents to 582 points, or 58.2 points/game. If you take out the Alma game, which Hope won 92-43, Hope has scored 791 points, or 87.8 points/game, while holding their opponents to 539 points, or 59.8 points/game. That's pretty hot, even including NCAA tournament games. Thats nearly a 30 point difference/game. So Hope is good, plus they have been extremely hot as of late. Yes, OWU will be a challenge, as will any team that Hope faces the rest of the way out (if we can make it past Friday). But I'll be watching the game Friday to see how Whitworth plays, and I hope to see a good game.

Ahhh that was a painful trip down memory lane!

Yes. So how about we return focus to something much more pressing, like this weekend's sectional game against OWU!

The NCAA hasn't released where teams will be playing these next rounds, but they will be playing Washington U this coming Friday. Quite a daunting challenge, but hey, BV has shown some real grit beating St. Thomas and Stevens Point. It'll probably be at either Millsaps or WashU, and I would guess WashU since they are more centrally located. It's just hard to tell with the seedings.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, depending on how you look at it, Wheaton's big man Wiele, did not really play in the game against Hope earlier this year when we played them. His presence and play has what has gotten them their 2 wins in this tournament thus far, so they look to be much more dangerous than anyone could have imagined with him playing healthy and on a mission. So it will be a really tough challenge for Whitworth, but based on the way they handled Oxy towards the end of the game last night, if they get a lead over Wheaton, maybe it will be tougher for them to come back.
