Glad to see the NESCAC Championship back where it belongs...  Amherst, MA

Well done fellas.  Now only if the Jeffcast didn't cut out at the exact worst time possible (Toomey taking his man one-on-one with 23 seconds left).

Keep it rolling and to the rest of the NCAAd3, beware the purple ides of March...

Glad to see Amherst back on top the NESCAC again. Watched both games on Jeffcast in slow motion (skipping every 30 seconds).  Very proud of Jeff Holmes who continues to make huge plays at opportune times.  Looking forward to watching them keep this momentum rolling into the playoffs.

Major props to David Kalema who stepped up tonight and went to the hole with speed and precision.  Another solid performance from Toomey who was CLUTCH from the line.  The kid is a winner.

Lets Goooooo!!!

Relax Eph Partisan.

This is a forum isn't it?  Please explain how anything said is not in the spirit of the game?

I'm not allowed to make a prediction now?  I thought this was March!

What's a parade without a little purple rain?

Nescac1, I'm glad you are so proud of your Williams boys that you basically wrote an entire essay on D3hoops that I guarantee was skimmed/skipped over by readers harder than Kansas read over their scouting report on Ali Farokhmanesh.

But I'll give it to you, the Seniors had some great careers!  It's too bad they came up just short when it mattered most.  Unfortunately for those Seniors and for Coach Maker they will never know what it's like to win the big one.  The Williams team of 2004 and the Amherst team from 2008 were also two teams that lost in the Championship games but at the end of the day those two teams had a Championship banner to bring home to their school and an experience of a lifetime the year before.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, sure losing the Championship is disappointing but everyone still remembers their first time (except maybe a site administrator or two who are still waiting for that day) and in the spirit of one of the greatest rivalries in sports, I just want to rub a little salt in the Williams festering wounds and remind everybody that nobody on this Williams has (and never will have) a championship ring.

I'm through posting until the season starts. Thanks for taking the fun right out of this. My post was sarcastic, enthusiastic, self-deprecating and hyperbole...like all of my posts. I certainly did not invite you to tell me about fletcher Walters' father's resume. Seriously, you're an idiot.
Do you have a single thought on Bernier or Porter?
Do you really need me to admit that Amherst dominates CC on a
Yearly basis?
I cannot put into words how pathetic your post was you front-running towel boy.

CCsalive,
How about we make that "I'm through posting on D3hoops.com forever." and save everybody the time and day.  You are completely out of your element right now that nobody in their right mind has any idea what you are talking about!

You claim, "I actually am enough of an athlete, or ex-athlete, to have played enough games in my day where I don't need to yell and scream at other fans."  I don't know how old you are (I'm sure you're somewhere in your 30s) but I can guarantee that Mr. Walters who is somewhere in his 50's could take you in Basketball, Baseball, Football, and just about any other sport based on your sheer lack of sports intelligence and of course the fact that Mr. Walters was a stud athlete back in his day.  Not to mention, the "front-running towel boy" that you "yell[ed] and scream[ed] at" in one way or another, knows Basketball like the back of his hand and he is "enough of an athlete" to recognize a fool when he sees one.

I'd wager that he's a better ball player than you too but don't worry I won't give you his resume.

Yours truly,

It's almost been 2 weeks since the last post.  Has the 2010 NESCAC Basketball season been canceled?  Can we get some chatter in here?

Speaking of battles, there are going to be such great battles over the next four years among all the talented guards/swingmen that Williams (Robertson, Klemm, plus 2-3 others who will play the 2/3)

I'm pretty sure that Robertson is a PG and will have to compete with Rubin and Wang [pause].

I'd also like to point out the fact that I went to the Williams website for the first time in my life to check out who else might compete for the PG spot and I was welcomed to a group shot of Williams players celebrating right next to the score of their last game...

Pioneer is notorious for producing Larrys.  Robertson will probably show up on the first day wearing tivas, tube socks and a fanny pack.

Bold statement my friend.  I just did a little research on this small Midwest school and discovered the last nine years the Pioneer basketball team...

Has a record of 188-50
1 State Championship
2 Regional Championships
3 District Championships
9 League Championships
and
1 National Gatorade Player of the year

I'm pretty sure they work out.

In fact the last 4 years have produced a pretty decent all D3 team.

G Nate Robertson (Williams College)
G John Grotberg (Grinell College)
F Matt Johnson (Chicago College)
F Matt Pettit (Carnagie Mellon)

did you pick wash u to win it all???

dman,

Wash U is much better than any of the other teams.  They are as good this year as last year and look what they did to a very good Amherst team last year.  Mark Edwards is an outstanding coach who recruits and gets high character kids.

Other players score more points, but just watch Tyler Nading and see what he brings to the game--it's like a clinic in team basketball.  He is the ultimate selfless player who does all the little things that bring this team success.  Caution---you don't really realize how good he is unless you keep your eye on him all the time to observe things he does on defense and on offense away from the ball.  Nading is a tenacious defender and an excellent rebounder.  He boxes out on the boards, he anticipates defensively.  On the other end he is a great passer, sets flawless screens and can score when he has to.  The ultimate team player and literally a coach on the floor.  He is an engineering major with a high GPA and a very high basketball IQ.  One of the best.

I hope he had a fun time playing chess with his teammates to celebrate!

It is quite strange to think about Middlebury hosting the NESCAC Championships this weekend but quite honestly, the last time I was up there I was very impressed with the atmosphere and school spirit in Panther country.  Love the block M and would love to catch a Hockey game there sometime.  I'm pumped to watch some high quality hoops on a 2" by 3" screen this weekend baby!!

Just for the heck of it while we wait one more day, if the NESCAC were the Big Ten...

Amherst - Michigan (Standard Excellence)

Bates - Indiana (Bates' gym just screams Hoosiers)

Bowdoin - Wisconsin (Way up there in the frozen tundras of WI and ME these schools produce quality sports teams and are quite prestigious in the classroom)

Colby - Iowa (Two schools that tend to stay in the middle of the pack in athletics)

Conn College - Penn State (Blue, thats about it)

Hamilton - Northwestern (Do we even belong in this conference?)

Middlebury - Minnesota (Amazing hockey programs, staggered hoop seasons)

Trinity - Illinois (always recruits great athletes, but can't always put a winning team on the court/field)

Tufts - Purdue (Gross jerseys yet great SID's and student journalists)

Wesleyan - Michigan State (The 3rd wheel)

Williams - Ohio State (One was founded on a farming community and one is actually represented by a cow!)

Of course this is over a span of many years and many different factors.  Clearly open for debate.
