Region 4 men's basketball / Re: MAC Freedom League

Kate, I couldn't agree with you more.  What an outstanding job by Delaware Valley's student body...out in full force.  The team played a Great 2nd half and celebrated accordingly.  Congratulations to DeSales and good luck tomorrow.  I hope they get good news from the NCAA.  But yesterday was " A Great Day to be an Aggie!"  Best of luck to Coach Stitzel and the boys as they prepare for the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time in the school's history.

I'm interested to see if the MAC Freedom coaches, again find a way to screw Coach Stitzel out of the Coach of the Year award.  He should have won it two seasons ago when he led the Aggies to their 1st play-off birth in 40 years.  This year they are the top seed after missing the play-offs a season ago.  DVC and Wilkes have been evenly matched in their games this season and I expect a great game on Wed.  Regardless of the out come, Del Val has had a great season and Casey Stitzel is the COY in the Freedom.

Saratoga: I did not mention Matt and Melody, not because I'm unsure of their worthiness, but because I thought Melody played more of the 3 (wing).  I think someone else started at the 2.  Please enlighten me.

Jeanne and Alisa only got to play along side each other for two years, As Alisa arrived to Del Val before Jeanne's Jr. year.  Burke and Rarick have started and played together from day #1 freshmen year until today.  Both back courts are/were impressive.  I'm sure there are plenty of others to be mentioned.

Senior night at Desales will be bitter sweet.  Burke and Rarick will go down as an "all-time" MAC tandem.  I will miss watching them do their thing.  However, I will stand up and cheer on Tuesday because that will be the last time DVC plays against those two.  A sidenote to that game will be Kim Vennera's journey to the 1000 point club.  The Del Val Jr. is 35 points shy with 2 games to play.  She hung 43 on DeSales in January...doubt Coach Richter will allow that to happen again.  Although, against Vennera, you don't always get a choice.

A huge Double header in Doylestown on Sat.  Kings vs. Del Val with playoff implications all around.  It is also Coaches vs Cancer day at James Work Gymnasium...donations will be accepted at the door.  Meaningful February basketball for both the women and men has not happened for a long, long time.  Those of you who travel around to the best games of the day...I'll see you at DVC.

Chairman:
Thanks for mentioning Brittney Zimmerman.  6-6 from the line in OT after playing 40 minutes and the entire OT period.  I think you saw the match-up, last night, for ROY.  Roland is a very good player for Eastern.  Zimmerman does everything for DVC, all while playing way out of position.  As for Boyer's shot...WOW!

You missed a good one yesterday in Purchase NY.  Mville attacks the offensive boards as well as anyone.  Del Val needs to learn how to make plays and better decisions in crunch time.  That is what growning pains are all about.  As Bobby Knight says..."the best thing about freshmen...they become sophomores".
The freedom playoff picture is beginning to become more clear.  It looks like the Aggies are going to be on the outside looking in.  It's not for lack of effort or enthusiasm.  Despite the record this is an easy team to root for.  I'm sure you agree.  See you at Eastern on Wed.?

Alvernia did a great job exploiting the Aggies weaknesses in the post.  Kim and Brittany can only do so much to keep Del Val in games.  I wish it was as simple as bringing in a 6-footer or two next season to fix the problem.  Bigs that can play go higher than d3 in many cases.  When you get some...count your lucky stars.  DVC had a 6-3 kid "locked" for this the 08-09 season, but her parents and the economy dictated a move to a d2 school nearer her home.  This occurred in late August.  So, even when you've spent hours and hours recruiting to fill voids there are NO done deals until you see them in uniform in warm-ups.  Trust me the staff is out every night looking for "size"...and in Del Val's case SIZE MATTERS for next season.

How good is Brittney Zimmerman for Del Val?  12-13 from the FT line on the road against a much improved Centenary squad.  Jackie Shunkwiler is coming along nicely as well.  Hope the weather doesn't stop you from heading south on Wed. for the DVC-Alvernia match-up.  Alvernia knocked off the Mules tonight.  That's a great win for them.

Is it just me or does the MAC Freedom have an abundance of pure scorers this season?  It really fun to watch these outstanding offensive players.  Burke and Rarick at DeSales, Vennera at Del Val, Fiorino at Kings, McIntyer at Alvernia, Cerankowski at FDU and Roland at Eastern to name a few.  I probably missed more.  Any given night these player can and have dropped some BIG numbers.  In the past week alone we've seen Fiorino hit for 35 and Vennera go crazy on DeSales for 43 in 34 minutes.  Burke has those kind of numbers in her every night.  Defense may win Championships but offense puts fannies in the seats.  I think it's a fun time for the freedom. :)

Del Val got much needed lights over the break...you want a new concession stand also?  Baby steps Kate.  Seriously though, The Aggies are playing exactly like a young team plays...INCONSISTENTLY.  Kim Vennera is as good as there is in the Freedom, but right now she needs some scoring help.  Without Battinieri Kim needs to shoulder the load.  Brittney Zimmerman is the real deal...just playing out of position due to the injury to Battinieri.  Keep the faith Kate...with a few post playing recruits Del Val's future could be as bright as the gym.

We missed you up north today.  However, you made the right decision staying curled up in front of the computer.  The roads were not good.  The Aggies played an uninspired first half and dug themselves a hole.  King's played well and Fiorino was lights out.  She is a great player and a nice kid.  I hope we'll see you at James Work on Monday for what will be a tough game with Wilkes.

Not sure if you're planning to make the trip to King's tomorrow to watch your Aggies...the game time has been moved up to 12:00.  Hope to see you there.  Go Aggies!
