My 15th post...

In 16 career games Schuring has 11 100-yard games.
In his last 12 games, Northern has nine 100-yard games.

In 16 career games, Schuring has 14 receptions for 112 yards (0 TDs)
This season, Northern has 17 receptions for 165 yards (2 TDs)

In 16 career games, Schuring has never been a blocking back
As a sophomore Northern paved the way for a freshman (Suckow) to the tune of 862 yards and 17 touchdowns. (Northern led Coe in receptions that year).

Not sure who you're calling stupid Brick. Youcantseeme is right on the money in describing what Northern brings to the table in terms of an all-around back. He'll never be an MVP because Suckow takes his TDs, but he is the best back in the league.

Schuring was more than deserving of MVP honors last year. If Central takes the conference, I'm sure he'll earn the award again. I'll even throw out that if Coe wins out, Northern will lose the MVP vote to DeMoulin. But taking a few stats, or nuggets if you will, off a piece of paper won't win your argument for who is the best back.

I believe what Ram-This was suggesting was that people in glass houses should not throw stones. In other words, the Warts have no business criticizing Coe's non-conference opponents when theirs, historically, have been no better.

My point exactly.

Speaking of Bill Snyder, I see Wartburg scheduled an above .500 non-conference opponent for the first time since the IIAC began doing so again in 2001. Assuming Monmouth finishes with more wins than losses one year after making the playoffs for the first time in 113 seasons that is. They did lose a ton from last year.

I suppose Millikin (10-10 in 2004-05) could be considered decent, but Augsburg (3-17 the last two years) and Peru State? How about UW-Oshkosh (7-12 in 2001-02) before that?

Go Rams, beat Dubuque!

Not only did Coe win three championships in four years, but they advanced to the playoffs twice. Considering there are over 230 D-III programs, I'd say the players (especially the seniors) had every right to purchase something that will remind them of their hard work and dedication to one team for four years. It's certainly not ridiculous.

On a side note, I'm a huge IIAC fan, but imo the best offensive player not playing at a D-I school last year was Morningside quarterback Craig Fobbe. He completed 300-of-487 passes, threw for 4,885 yards and 41 touchdowns to nine picks. He led Morningside to a 12-1 record, including a 58-7 win against St. Ambrose in the NAIA playoffs. He threw six TDs in that one.

Top to bottom, the IIAC is the better league, but, Show, I don't think you can throw out there that Buena Vista has dominated the football recruiting in that area. I count 54 Iowa boys on this year's Mustang web site.

Maybe the next Coe SID will acknowledge that in fact Cornell won that football game played back in 1902! Congratulations Brian, I know you'll enjoy Madison.

I'm assuming that the Coe and Wartburg coaches would side with their own players.

I'll agree that Steege is the MVP, but only if Wartburg wins the IIAC title outright. Since 1992, only once has the league MVP not come from the championship team (Kevin Clipperton,  Upper Iowa - 1997).

Since it appears to be a two-team race, I think Kyle Kuenstling is the logical choice for Coe (although Kohawk fans could probably make a case for Mike Kilburg). I might be biased because Kuenstling's scored 70 points in two games against the Rams this season.

Kuenstling's IIAC rankings include 5th in points, 2nd in rebounding, assists and blocks, and fifth in field goal percentage (all rankings higher than Steege).

I think the only debate worth having is who wins if Coe and Wartburg finish with identical records. If statistics are used to break the tie, you'd have to give the edge to Kuenstling right now. I'm sure the seven coaches all have their own system to decide and some might not all look at league rankings.

One side note, since 1984 all Coaches of the Year have come from championship teams.

I don't like agreeing with a Kohawk, but I have to side with one in this discussion.

I figured this year would be Northern up the middle and Suckow to the outside game after game. Especially after Coe graduated an MVP quarterback.

Truth is no one imagined TeKippe throwing for more yards and more touchdowns than Brannen. No one imagined a 2002 all-IIAC wide receiver in Jon Rife getting back to form so quickly (new single-season reception record). No one figured Northern would average 5.5 yards per carry by running a simple draw out of the shotgun.

Like Charlie said, why not utilize all your weapons.

How many players in the nation, let alone the Iowa Conference, could average over 4 yards per carry with nine rushing TDs, catch 53 passes for 700 yards and 10 TDs, and return a punt for a touchdown. Sounds like good use of a weapon to me.

Dusty Kain won how many titles with Simpson? Tyler Sherden has won how many titles with Luther? Suckow has two – one as a back and one as a receiver.

How can you place blame on a coach for piecing together an offense that generated over 30 points and 450 yards a game?

Coe got to the playoffs twice with Carey Bender (0-2) and once with Fredrick Jackson (1-1). Let's see how it plays out with Suckow.

Easy Cobber-

Just 20 minutes away from Cedar Rapids this afternoon, it was 18 degrees and snowing with a -5 wind chill and 25 mph wind gusts. Not sure where Coe would practice at indoors, but they don't have the best practice facilities for football.

Sounds like we found a replacement for Dow Jones. Very entertaining CooCoo! You'd almost think Coe was 1-8 instead of 8-1 with all of the arguing.

Go Rams!

I know it's often overlooked, but I believe Suckow also leads the league in touchdowns with 16 (or 13 in IIAC contests). Probably not a huge deal. He had 23 last year and was only a second-team all-IIAC back.

I looked at the box scores today and saw only one quarterback (TeKippe) with passing stats for Coe in the Central and Luther games. Is the team still rotating three guys like everyone says or did this controversy end a few weeks ago?

How does the fastest team in the league run for negative 74 yards?
#14
I heard Coe defeated Central 17-14. I also heard Dubuque's speed was a big factor in the Luther game.
