Just shared this on the Wesley board, but I believe that this has the makings of a D3 classic. It has become a post season rivalry, with much tension and respect. Should be great one on Saturday! Go Cru!

I believe that this matchup has the makings for a D3 classic. Often overstated, but true, this is a post season rivalry with tension and respect on both sides. Looking forward to saturday.

ETBU and McMurry was a great defensive ball game! Both defenses were flying around. ETBU held McMurry to under 300 yards of offense and really only 2 TD drives. The TD right before the half was more on the ETBU offense than the ETBU defense. What a great response by the ETBU offense late in the 4th quarter. Held a lead the entire game only to have it taken with 5+ minutes left. Instead of folding they came thru in the crunch with a well executed 2 min drill to get the W.
It was just one of the best overall performances from the ETBU defenses in a long time. The secondary did an outstanding job of covering the McMurry receivers, probably 4-5 of the 9 sacks can be attributed to Mullins just having no where to go with the football. The defense also did a great job of A) putting McMurry in unsuitable situations early in the series (lots of 2 and more than 10) which resulted in B) McMurry going 4-19 on 3rd down. When it looked like a McMurry receiver would have a step or two on a DB, the DB for ETBU would close extremely well and make a great play for the break up. Folks can say what they want, but ETBU just came to play on defense and it was a great sight to see
That is saying something TxFight, the recievers from McM are fast. Coach Sartain is a great motivator and coach, should be interesting how the rest of the year goes. 9 sacks means great pressure on the QB. Reminds me that every game is huge in the ASC this year!

Kelly,
Thank you for the information. My Aunt teaches in the Education department at LC, and my grandfather attended in the 1950's. Great school, and your football venue is one of the most impressive in all of the D3. (IMO) Also, Dr. Joe Aguillard has been a family friend for many years. It should be a great game on Saturday, and I wish the best for your son.
Did some research and found I have family that has attended or currently teach at 4 ASC schools. Anyone have similar findings?
My ASC Connections:
My Mom-graduated from ETBC (now ETBU)
My grandfather, cousin-LC
Aunt-Teaches at LC
Distant relative on my grandfather's side-former president of HSU
My wife, my sister, and myself-UMHB
It is always fun on any given Saturday in my family when it comes to the ASC.

I agree with the article on Coach Keeling in the Temple paper today. 52 years of coaching, and he has won everywhere he has been. Even better, he is a class act as a coach and person. Great job Eric on the article. Tomorrow is looming, two powerhouses, two great coaches, and seats are filling up like the rivers with water here in Corpus Christi, this should be fun! I will be on the fifty yard line...(in front of my computer screen)

UMHB, please listen to me, "just say no to any t-shirt for this game." I thought it was a bad idea then, and I haven't changed my mind. At the end of the 2004 game, many t-shirts went into the trash can outside the stadium. Right where they needed to be. Show up, scream loud, and wear normal fan attire.

Toby, wish I could, too much to do after the flooding down here this weekend. I will be listening, watching if it is available on the internet! Blessings my friend.

A shocking reminder to both UMHB and HSU, though the rivalry runs deep, it is still only one game. Conference play will continue, and the rest of the board will be glad to talk about something other than us! From recent posts their is an assumption that our team will go through the game unscathed. Unfortunately, turnovers, penalties, and injuries play a big part of every college football game for both teams. In our mid-week utopian discussion we envision a perfect game. Then comes kickoff and reality will set in! I am holding my judgements until Saturday, not on Monday. We will see on Saturday in the post game evaluations, and obviously the posts. I have always believed that every year I would love to see HSU and UMHB best-on-best. I look forward to more of the same this week. I pray that both teams play hard, play their best, and the best team wins. Period. I am not cocky, nor arrogant enough to think that this will be a game that either team will win going away. (It is in Belton, and I don't see either team giving an inch). I certainly understand it is a rivalry game, more than just a regular season meeting. Throw your statics in the trash, both teams will play each play with heart, and instinct, not merely percentages.
As per every year, at the conclusion of the game I will tip my hat to the winner, and wish the loser my best for next week. Some may call me old fashion, I prefer to be class act over trash talker any day of the week. I have heard, "HSU will throw deep against these young defensive backs," true. UMHB, "will need to throw the ball to keep us in the game," true. It should be fun to see which team will execute this weekend!
The game will be played by gentlemen other than us. We will type, and talk, they will work, practice and then play. We will show our passion all week long, by rooting, screaming, yelling, at the game, and at our computers come Saturday.
That is what I love about this game. No brotherly love (Two Baptist Schools for those who do not know), and share the same name with both schools deeply indebted to the Hardin family. Should be fun, the Cru vs. the Cowboys, I can't wait. J
Could we just play tomorrow? I'm in!

Congrats to McM on a well fought game and congrats to Bhmu on pulling this one out with some big plays! As long as HSU doesn't give up big plays next week I predict a lot of unhappy cru fans this time next week! Wonder if Coach K and Coach Mumme have scheduled coffee for this week. Might be a great idea!
Boo cru. Here come the boys! Go cowcoys
Go co
Should be a great game, both teams are formitable foes. I have nothing but the utmost respect for HSU, but I do root for the Cru!

The Cru must be able to throw a pass or two down the field to keep the defense at bay. If not they will load the box, and our running backs and qb will continue to run for their lives I can't wait to see what kind of package our coaching staff will put together for the HSU game this week. I tip my hat to McM. Great game! This week should be a barn burner in Belton! No pun intended.

I agree with you Crufootball, it would be nice to have a formation where LB could pass with efficiency. Sure would keep the defense from loading the box on every play and add an extra dimension. With that said, I do love the commitment that our coaching staff has made to get back to our strength and run the ball. Balance in the passing game will open up the run. I wish I could be in Abilene as well, should be two exciting games in the same day. I guess I will have to listen via internet, not the same, but I am grateful. To all who are traveling be safe, enjoy, and may the Cru play great football. Somebody please eat some BBQ for me!

UMHB must continue to run the football effectively, dominate time of possession, and win the turn over margin. Combined with great sufficating defense, filled with stops and turnovers against a dangerous quick strike offense. Everything I read points to the fact that the ASC is much improved this season. McM will be tough oppenent especially at home and more comfortable with Coach Mumme's offense. Hey, the ASC reminds me more and more of the SEC. No easy games, and you must play well every week or you will get beat.

I know that it is too early to tell, but with three highly ranked teams this year in the ASC is it possible for all three, or two of the three to make the playoffs? This could be the most competitive our conference has been since its inception in 1996. Not counting chickens before they hatch of course!

It seems to me that this year has many interesting turns and challenges. Several programs have made considerable improvements in the off-season, I cannot wait until the season starts. The ASC is stronger I believe than in recent years which will help prepare our Conference champion, and possible pool bids for the play-off run. I cannot wait! Go Cru, and Go ASC!

I am looking forward to seeing Central's strength vs. The Cru's speed. Should be a great first round playoff game. Anyone have some insight into Central's offense, run oriented, pass, or balanced? I am looking forward to the Dutch's offense vs. the Cru defense. On offense, I am looking for QD to have a big day, if Central slants or slashes, QD's shiftiness could play a factor in the game. Much respect for Central's program should be fun to see come Saturday.
