QuoteLinfield has not gotten over the QTR final hump since then though...
Yep, just about got to be the best to get out of the brackets they get put in.

Good notes Greg. How would you rank the programs?

Yes, agreed. I too would be interested in Greg's opinions.

IWU was competitive in their lone loss, beat the second place WIAC team, and has a win against a regionally ranked opponent.  DePauw got run over in their lone loss, nearly lost to an 0-8 team last week, and is 0-1 against regionally ranked opponents.  It seems, again, the committee just ranked by standings and used SOS to break ties.  If that is the case literally anyone could be on this committee.  It takes no knowledge of the region, teams, or DIII as a whole.  Very surprising rankings.

Alright, thank you.  Now I know the desired results.

Wally,

Maybe I have to wait for your Pool C post or Regional Rankings but what is Wheaton's best shot at the tournament outside of the AQ? I just don't see a way they make the tournament and IWU doesn't.  So not only would Wheaton be 8-2 they would also be the third CCIW team.  I can see a path to sitting at the table, the what-ifs aren't too crazy, but wonder the chance they are selected?

Interesting tidbit from NCC sources...

Several days prior to the NCC @ Wheaton game, when it was apparent from weather forecasts that lightning delays were likely, the NCC AD asked to move the kickoff time to 1 pm to increase the likelihood of completing the game on Saturday.  Wheaton AD said no.

???

I don't think there is much here.  There were supposed to be Men's and Women's soccer games at 1pm and 4pm at Joe Bean Stadium.  If memory serves me, they usually do not have football and soccer play at the same time.  I would imagine once they cancelled both soccer games the decision to move the football game to a time where soccer had been cancelled would be seen as rather dubious.  Again, I don't think there was a conspiracy to make two teams play a game that was likely to be disrupted.

I fully concur, Neverwas. I wouldn't, for a second, think there was any type of conspiracy involved.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there was much common sense on the part of the Wheaton AD involved either.
What was an almost a certain interruption could have easily been avoided. Just because soccer had been cancelled football couldn't be moved into that now totally vacant time slot?
Lot of people were inconvenienced big time due to the Wheaton AD's stubbornness.  >:(

Maybe because his school was on Fall break and NCC was not?

Julie Davis is a her... The soccer games weren't cancelled until Saturday morning.  I am not sure when the teams were notified but the Wheaton SID news release went out at 9:00am.

I could also envision a scenario in which, with it being fall break, there were fewer people to work athletic events.  Which other CCIW teams could host both soccer games and a football game at the same time?  Is Wheaton the only school with a separate soccer field?

I understand we all would have liked to have the game played Saturday but there was more going on than just NCC and Wheaton.  I also could see Wheaton trying to keep soccer in the time slot as long as possible to not mess up soccer scheduling which has more games and moving parts.  Bloomington is a longer drive than the drive down Naperville Road.  The IWU/Wheaton men's game is now this Monday and the Women played after the football game Monday.  Just a lot of stuff other than Wheaton vs. NCC.  At the end of the day, it was the weather that caused the inconvenience and not Wheaton's AD who I am sure was hoping to get all events completed.

I will take that bet.  Lunch at McCully during the Homecoming Game. :)

Looks like Zach Lindquist is returning.    Aidan O'Connell opted for a preferred walk on spot at Purdue.

Was O'Connell considering NCC? His interest list seemed above that of D3.

Maybe it wasn't posted here (?) but he "committed" to Wheaton, there was a Tribune mention of it.  Then a few weeks later had second thoughts and opted for Purdue.

You're a real tease, USee.   ;)

And an alphabetical run through the conference slate :)

I love the new additions.  Coaching tenure, once a staple of the Wheaton recruiting pitch, has been replaced with young/high energy coaches.  It is nice to see the pipeline of former players continue.  I hope, at some point, we can stop the revolving door of coaches leaving.  But as other posters have pointed out on these boards it is the nature of D3 football to lose coaches and if you are losing them they must be good.

I find the addition of Studebaker the most interesting.  I wonder how long he is content as an assistant coach (not even a coordinator) and where he fits long term in Wheaton's plans.  For now, I am very happy he is on board.  Anyone with 97 career games played in the NFL will have an abundance of knowledge.  Wheaton fans hope he knows how to transfer that knowledge to the players as that is what coaching is all about.

All in all, I am a very happy Wheaton fan today.

Week 10 2016 hypothetical regional brackets

EAST

Bridgewater State at Alfred
Husson at Western New England

Stevenson at St. John Fisher
Wesley at Hobart

NORTH

Lakeland at Oshkosh
Wittenberg at Wheaton

Olivet at North Central
Rose-Hulman at Mount Union

SOUTH

Hardin-Simmons at Mary Hardin-Baylor
Thomas-More at Case Western Reserve

Randolph-Macon at Johns Hopkins
Centre at Huntingdon

WEST

Redlands at Linfield
Northwestern at St. Thomas

St. John's at Coe
Monmouth at Whitewater

I am sure others have opinions but this looks like 9-1 UW-O would be seeded above 10-0 NCC (and maybe Mount Union?).  Which would make NCC a 3 in their quad and Mount a 2 (or Mount 1 and NCC 4).  At least that is how I read it if Wheaton is playing UW-O in second round.  I don't see that as very likely, right?

Is this actually a year where the CCIW would prefer to go to Mount instead of a North/West oriented bracket?  They seem to be a relative unknown compared to years past.  From reading the OAC board they seem to be slightly down on the 9-0 team.  Maybe the JCU result will change the thinking but it seems possible for the first time it might be the case.  I would think that would be the CCIW pool C team, Wheaton.  Tough to imagine NCC as two seed going to Mount in the quarters?  I am just guessing.

NCC as a two seed is going to play either St Thomas, UWW, or Mt Union in the 3rd round. I think that's a certainty unless one of them loses. Wheaton is going to face one of those three either in round 2 (probable) or round 3 (if they end up as a 4 seed in a bracket). If Wheaton ends up as a 4 seed they will have to face, potentially, a consecutive week gauntlet (rounds 2 and 3) of UWO then STT, UWO then UWW, or NCC then UMU/UWW. Last year they faced a UWW then UWO as a 2 seed.

I follow and that makes sense.  After the first round it is hard no matter where you are and a gauntlet likely awaits.  I am just wondering if instead of hoping to avoid the altar CCIW teams go to die, we may actual prefer the road.  It likely doesn't make much difference in the end but those teams you listed in the Northish/Eastish teams seems less difficult.  Mount Union will always be Mount Union and they are likely never "down" but hey, one can dream. :)

Basically, home, Mount, NCC, whoever (getting way ahead of myself here...) might be preferable to UWW/UWO/STU combo platter.
