Newcardfan- I won't give up that title so easily. To quote one of my favorite movie lines "you called down the Thunder well now you got it".

NCC was playing without their 4 senior Captains and the 4 best players at their respective positions in the cciw las saturday. While I think what they have done with their backups is admirable the 4 backups to those plays aren't the best players in the conference at their positions. Lest you forget the wheaton/ncc game was 7-7 at half and Fanthorpe went on to earn player of the week honors with his 2nd half performance (which also secured the game). I think its pretty simple....if Fanthorpe plays in the second half last saturday NCC wins that game easily. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delirious.

Usee...wow, glad to see you back! K+ for the appearance!  ;D

i notice your karma is 63 hmmmm it should be higher have you been standing around like a cigar store native american down there at your school

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion on the polling question was.  At 5:31 AM it showed that around 45 percent of the people think that UWW got hosed a little bit on the seeding.

Personally, I don't think that they really got hosed.  All of the teams above them got in through Pool A.  On the capsal, it states that UWW got in through Pool A as well because of the 9-1 record they shared with UWSP.  But if I'm not mistaken I believe the automatic bid went to UWSP because they beat them head to head.

It seems that most of the people seem to think that it is an injustice to put the defending nation champs and two-time prior to that runner-ups that far down in the seeding.  But what is the term that we use around the Chicago-land area for which ever baseball team that we cheer for? Isn't it "There's always next year"?  Well, baby its next year already.  A team should not just live on the reputation of tradition or recent success.  The team should be judged on the current season.

Anyway, those are my two cents for why I did not vote for UWW.  What are your thoughts?

This is really a good question because from what I've seen just watching the last three national championships and game film (of other teams in the OAC) they seem to be extremely balanced on offense with a stingy/opportunistic defense.

I would think that the best defense for this type of an opponent would be the ole ball control scheme and try to shorten the game.  This does not mean that a team wouldn't have to run, run and run some more--even though I personally wouldn't have any problem with that--because the same can be accomplished by short, timing route passing as well.  This way you tire out the defense while keeping the offense on the sidelines.

I think this would be better than going in to the game with the game plan of meeting at the O.K. Carral just doesn't seem like a great idea against them.

Okay so here is a thought, or really a question I guess....

Since it looks like NCC will be headin out west, that means that there is the potential for them to have to go to Ohio again. Granted that this is merely potential and there would be three hard fought games before having to take that trip. But

My question is... What does everyone think is the best way to attack a team like MU?

Robert Goulet..... no no, theres two O's in goose boys

Here's my two cents about Lester (sp?)

Taking a team that has been tough but just not getting a few big game wins is a good first step.  However, since this is Lester's first season at the helm of Elmhurst....these are all not his guys.  In fact, my calander skills might be off a little, but pretty sure Lester didn't even come into the Elmhurst picture until late in recruiting this year.  If that is the case, he might not be playing with close to any of his guys.

Don't get me wrong, he did a hell of a job at NCC last year with that defense.  And he deserves credit for coming over and making his kids play the way that he is.  But coming in and taking an already tough team to get that first big victory (the first step of getting over the hump) is really only half of the battle.  The second half of the battle is recruiting.  I mean would you just pay a repair man just for taking apart your troubled appliance? No of course you wouldn't.

Thorne, on the other hand has won three (should have been four) straight with his own guys.  I just don't see how that doesn't speak volumes.

It's okay, order is restored... people are voting the correct way, but at the time of my previous log-in and post they were not

Not going to lie, a little ticked off about the poll question on the front of the page.
The fact that I'm in the 40 hours of no sleep might be a factor ...BUT...

  • I realize that UWW got up set
I realize that UWW beat NCC last year on route to a national title
I realize that poll questions are supposed to generate conversation, i.e. this
I also realize that rankings dont mean a whole heck of a lot, maybe they sway post season awards--I don't know

Having said that, I do have some thoughts....

It seems like this poll question is tring to create the same discussion about strength of conference and schedule as the conversation WAS with Penn St.  Is that really the case?  Is UWW's schedule all that more impressive than NCC's?  Sure NCC plays BU and that recently that has been realitively game week that is a little more lax than others, but NCC did have Ohio Northern on the schedule when they were ranked in the top 25 in the nation.  At that time that was a big win, not as great as one might have thought directly after, but a big win nonetheless.

Not to mention the fact that the Warhawks do have a loss.  I'm not saying that they shouldn't be up there with the top teams in the country.  But isn't it almost always a default that if you are in a "power conference" and undefeated that you belong above another "power conference" team that has one loss?  And I know some of the people who will try to poke holes in my argument here will say well you have a bunch of BIG XII and SEC teams with one loss ahead of Utah and Ball St.  Utah may have a bit of a claim because they proven they can play with the big boys.

But as far as the polls go, the undefeateds are lining the top of the rankings.  The teams with one loss are there circling like buzzards to get in if one team drops, but they are on the outside looking in no matter if they are playing some of the best ball right now (USC, UF).

So I guess my argument really boils down to is: Really people, do you really think that UWW deserves to be ahead in the rankings?

There wont be any comparisons from cardinal fans about that year

It is a bad omen to talk like that

Well I could be wrong but I don't think anyone in question is named Neon

Blitz Creed,  I would agree with you only on one condition....it depends when the Wheaton game is. If the Wheaton game is earlier than the Augie game than after Wheaton, yes, the Augie game is the biggest game.  But, if the Augie game is before the Wheaton game, then Wheaton still is the biggest game.

And yes, lets not talk about '05

Now Greg I could be wrong but I believe this theory comes from the frist book of Ramones, where he said:

Theyre piling in the back seat theyre generating steam heat
Pulsating to the back beat

But I could be wrong
