Hey everybody! Let's get this guy fired because he didn't think before he posted.
Wait.. I forgot those sarcasm tags.
Honest (stupid) mistake, but if I ruled the world, I would have his post simply deleted. No need to make drama out of a dumb mistake.

GHC, Your reasoning makes sense. Teams can play down to others' levels at times, especially when coming off a big emotional game the week before. I'm just glad we got the W. We need to refocus now with Western Oregon coming to town, as I'd think we'll be the underdog in that one.

I think WOU had over 500 yards on offense and their QB passed for 4 or 5 TDs.  :o

Linfield should beat WOU pretty easily.  Those stats (for last Saturday) were against Humboldt -- a team that hasn't won a conference game in the GNAC all year.   WOU gets a lot of "offsides" calls and other assorted penalties.  Now, that could be interesting.  I still say Linfield wins it.  I've seen them both play this year -- not much to worry about from WOU.

Could you possibly be thinking about SOU instead of WOU? Willamette played SOU, but they dont play Western

I know a team that would play Linfield in DIII... Willamette?

Just for kicks lets look at the strength of schedule for the SCIAC and the NWC this year.

NWC
Linfield........36
Willamette...53
PLU..............61
Whitworth...77

SCIAC
La Verne.........13 with a 1-5 record
Cal Luthern...117
Redlands.......129
Occidental......173

I can see why they don't want to play the #2 team from the NWC. :o

Where did you get those numbers? That's interesting, I thought someone showed me onlie that Willamette had the second or third highest strength of schedule..

Next time, use WC11's sarcasm brackets. I'm much more used to those. I've never downplayed Linfield's proud history as a football program, just some of their idiotic backers that can't give any amount of respect to other programs. Redlands has a long and proud history as well.

Completely off the topic, but one of my favorite high school teachers played for Redlands.

Redlands turns out a lot of teachers. Very good education program. If he was there in the early to mid 90's I played with him.

Anthony (Tony) Nino, QB?

Yep, Tony was a backup quarterback.

Well I'll be. Small world. For my curiosity, did he ever eventually start?

If Linfield played those 3 SCIAC teams, they would win at least two of them.
Get off your HIGHHORSE!! Linfield has not got it done three years in a row.

onearmedscot,

Looking forward to seeing a healthy Ryan Whitcomb again, as well.
Yeah--he has another year and would be the presumed starter for next year, correct?

officially, yes.

WC11- you may know more to this- Why wouldn't SOU move to DIII? It would be easy on travel and they have multiple sports to play in the NWC. Seems like they are stuck in NAIA.

WC11 I'm not, but I think I can field this one...
With SOU playing in NAIA, they are able to give athletic scholarships. At D3, this is not the case. No athletic scholarships are given out in D3 ball, so any players at SOU on scholarship would be stripped of any aid. It's just a completely different ball game.
Correction: same ball game, different politics.

Don't think this has been posted yet. Good news out of L&C land. They've already secured their schedule for next year, and it's their first 10 game schedule since the 90's. Wouldn't let me link it right to the release page, but it's the first article on their sports home page.

Pios Schedule Released

It also states the Pios are "anticipating their largest squad size in over a decade" in '09. 10 game schedules and increasing squad sizes are positive signs to the rest of the NWC that L&C is continuing to try and get their program going in the right direction, IMO.

Well congrats to L&C! I really hope that the Pios can give a few NWC teams a run for their money in the next few years... Good luck guys

One of your tackles (#64) was quite undersized. #74 on the defense was smaller as well. I thought Willamette had some type of award-winning cafeteria?

64 is plenty big... just short. 74 may be rail-thin, but he can play.

The best part about Willamette's current offense is that it has even more threats than that. Jose Green, Deon Horne, Merben Woo, Marcus Woo, Jamiere Abney... All can run the ball, Many would start on most teams. That being said, many run from being split out. Even Senior FB Cody Anthony can rumble.
Even if the running game gets stopped (as it was at times vs. Linfield), Willamette can air it out.
I can't help but think that the thing that really makes all of those guys a threat is the O-Line for the Bearcats.  I don't suppose we'd see the offenseive "player" of the year be an entire Offensive Line.....  :)

no... and aint that a shame?
