This LOI was faxed on national signing day which I believe was Wednesday Feburary 3,2005. So it was intent to be like a scholarship school LOI. Like I said it's D3 anyone who want to come out and play. of course at the WIAC schools a lot of those kids get cut b/c of the 100 man roster however at other D3 schools they have a lot of kids who may never see the field and are on the team just so they can say I played football at XYZ college/universoity,and "WE won a championship" Like I said this does not happen much in the WIAC.

I have to admit I was LMAO when I read this as it's d3 football and you don't commit or sign anything. If I got into MUC and wanted to go out for football all I have to do is show up the first day of fall camp, and I could try out.
I rememebr one kid whose name I will not mention b/c he is still on the team that signed a supposed LOI(Letter of Intent) and faxed it to us. Brez had no clue what was going on, because like I said that type of stuff does not happen at the division three level.

I agree with sakman tht this is as bad as the cannon guy and public v private. However I just read the new edition of the RP,and It has gotten to an all time new low as Lance had to apologize tot he soccer teams for his comment about how covering soccer would be fun for the RP.
I would also take the bait about Z not acting like Lance has. I know Brez never did,and I am sure Forest Perkins never did either.

I saw the copy of the paper today, and the funny part was that it was not even on the front page it was in the middle of the news paper.
I still think the way LL reacted is funny. Yes I understand he is passionate about the football program, and whitewater athletics in general. However so was the guy you replaced, and I never remember seeing Brez act that way after there was a front page story about players under his watch getting doing worse (Beaver in 05, fight downtown in 03). He would complain quietly and let it go except for when some of the players thought they would be cute and start a F*** the RP and their sports editor group on facebook in 2005, which resulted in a team meeting with the AD. He was upset about that, and that made the front page. These guys names weren't even mentioned, and LL reacts very poorly.
Yes the campus cops were mad. I mean they had to get up from doing nothing which is what they normally do,and actually get in their squad cars and drive the two minutes from the police station to the williams center. Probably even turned on the sirens because they don't get to do that much.

I find it funny that people don't realize that athletes are under the microscope 24/7. If the cops were called there is then a police report filed and it becomes public record.
Also to call the royal Purple a joke is sort of funny. I am not sur eof the facts but the royal purple and tv station at UW Whitewater have produced more professionals in their areas then the football program has in the NFL 2 Matt Turk and Derek Stanley.
The reporter was writing an editorial meaning it was his opnion of what happen and what needs to happen. Leipold was completely out of line and has since apologized. Most likely forced to by the higher ups in administrative positions.
It gives the entire school and any one who attended their a bad rap for while.
I guarantee Brez never did this. Although their were some players after the 05 season who created a controversial website about what the Royal Purple.

Well looks like there was a face to face meeting. Kudos to the AD on that. I wonder what will happen to leipold though besides that. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall when he meets with the chancellor.

I wasn't there when whatever happen happen. However I did like the go cover soccer comment,as well as the grass fairies statement.
I think this whole thing was blown way out of control, not by the way the reporter reported the "NEWS" but the way the head coach responded. I still haven't read the article, but he saw whatever happen happen and therefore I am sure he reported what he saw.
I also guarantee that the AD talked with Leipold, although if I was the AD I would have had him call the reporter and have him come in and talk face to face.
It could be worse back when Beaver got busted for supplying booze to underage kids it was reported and then a bunch of football players started a group on facebook about wanting to cause harm to the reporter. All they were doing back then was reporting the news and all they are doing know is reporting the news.
Get over it he caused a stink over basically nothing although. I am getting calls from all over the state asking me what the head coach at my alma mater is doing. I simply responded that he is telling the paper to go cover soccer. LOL

April 03, 2009, 01:27:46 PMQuote from: skunks_sidekick on April 02, 2009, 05:49:19 PMI think it was more of the muc defense then anything that year. However you are correct the play calling has become more dynamic then in the past. I also think that MUC has something to do with that as the new coach Z went and played at MUC.
As a Mount fan.........it was quite evident to me that once Leopold took over, the offense (especially in the 2007 Stagg Bowl) really seemed to be much more diversified and able to make plays on 3rd down.
I know some of you out there are Z Zealots, but the play-calling in the two previous Staggs (especially 2006) was ummmm......weak at best. Just MHO.......

Pat
I know it's not going to happen any time soon, but I am sure it will happen. As for the other two posts. I am sorry I am not perfect. I was jujst stating facts about the situation at Whitewater. I never said Lance wasn't the head coach when they won it all. I just said that he took over a program that was well stocked with talent, which he and his staff did not recruit. Much like Urban Meyer did not recruit a lot of the players he won the 2006 national title with as he won it with someone players someone else recruited.

I have kept quite on this topic. However I am going to say my piece as it was brought up on past pages. I am happy for Stan Zweifel. As he finally achieved his goal of becoming a head coach. Despite everything that happen his last two years in Whitewater, and yes there could be a book written about it. He is a good person, and an outstanding coach. Unfortunately he did not get along with some people (okay one person) who in the long run shouldn't really matter when the new head coach is selected. However (Because of who it was) it did matter.
Dubuque will be a powerhouse in the Iowa conference in the years to come and he will have them to the point where they can play Whitewater. Rome was not built in a day, and it will take time for him to build the program up
Let's face it coach Brez and his staff did not leave the covers bare, and for the most part except for this years freshman most of the players were recruited by the previous staff. When this year's freshman class is seniors and all of the recruits have been clearly recruited by the Leopold's staff we will see if the Hawks can continue their dominance. As alum of UW-Whitewater I hope they do. However all good things do come to an end, and their runs especially in the WIAC,and their runs of stagg bowl appearances will eventually end as well.

Champ, don't get me wrong I never left or stopped supporting the Warhawks which most know......the rest is old news and only important now to those who it directly affected......Pound the Rock......
I know you never truly left. However it has all worked out for the best as anyone who has ever touched the warhawk football program can be proud of the national championship last year. As well as what they have accomplished this year, It is truly amazing how a team in such a competitve conference can dominate it four years in a row being 39-1 in conference the last four years is very impressive. Heck only losing four games two of in the championship game and one to a division 2 school in the last four years is even more impresive.
The best part is from what I ream on warhawkfootball.com the warhawks are not to cocky about it, they are more honored to have a chance to defend their title then anything and that is a true sign of a classy program which started back with Forest Perkins, continued with coach Berezowitz and something coach Leopold has continued.

Sakman, your always welcome back on the warhawks band wagon, as we all remember how pissed you were. I remember hearing how pissed a lot of former players were about Leopold being hired over Zweifel. However after they won the national title. Many of those very distract alums, came out of the wood work, and told Leopold how great of a coach he was. He also remembered them telling him he was the wrong man for the job. I give the DLK and his assistant the UWW AD Paul Plinske
credit for hiring Leipold,as they saw something in him, which has helped the warhawks to another stag bowl. 4 in a row, and they get to Monkey Stomp the Purple Raiders again. I know they only won by ten last year, but they shut up Garcon big time.
