Messages - E8

#1
What a great season to witness.   On behalf of everyone at sports radio 950 ESPN in Rochester, thank you for taking the time to tune in to our broadcasts this year.   Congratulations to the Alfred Saxons and the SJFC Cardinals for being co-champs of the Empire 8 and to Fisher for winning the ECAC Northwest Bowl.    Here is to a quick and healthy off-season, and we'll see you in 2010.

Happy Thanksgiving.

An impressive victory by SJFC on the road at Ithaca.   I don't care who you are, Ithaca is a very tough place to play.. not to mention, coming into yesterday's homecoming game, Ithaca won 27 STRAIGHT homecoming games against division III opponents.  27 straight.  Not easy to do....

Brandon Moore was IMPRESSIVE to say the least for his first game at middle linebacker.   His play allows Episcopo to take his aggressive play, speed and smarts to the outside edge where he is DANGEROUS... and proved to be yesterday.    Brandon Moore's addition creates a whole new dimension to this defense... and it showed yesterday.    It was the SPEED of this defense coupled with its pursuit is what I took notice of yesterday.... they were prepared to play and they took some aggressive chances with corner blitzes and such... it worked.  Confident group.    The rest of the E8 should be on notice when it comes to this defense.

what can you say about Christian Zamaitis?  Congratulations on breaking the school record.   There is no telling what this kid can do.   If he stays consistent and healthy and the line keeps blocking this way, he could move into a different stratosphere  by his senior year.   The 1-2 punch of Carlton and Zamaitis will cause the E8 fits from here on in.

Right on cue, 82.

If SJFC played their best football on Saturday Night and UofR played THEIR best football as well , the score would be (in my opinion only) Fisher: 62  UofR: 24.  But we all know that you can throw records and statistcs out for this game, for UofR always plays Fisher tough.   It is Courage Bowl V, and UofR has yet to beat Fisher.... if UofR does not win another game this year, but beats Fisher in this game...it will be as if they won the Stagg Bowl.

UofR likes to bring a lot of pressure from their base defense (3-4) so Fisher needs to be ready for that .   If Fisher give's Bailey time...lights out.   Their front three are not game changers, but their linebackers are not too shabby.   If Fisher's running backs can get to the 2nd level...lights out.

If Fisher lets UofR's tailback, Onyrucka (forgive the spelling), run free... Fisher is in trouble.  This will be the best RB that Fisher has seen so far (and yes, that includes MUC) and they need to gang tackle him.   He could be the wrinkle that keeps this game close.   If he has 60+ rushing yards in the first half, this game will be close going into halftime.

UofR likes the trick plays early, and will try to test the DBs/Safeties of Fisher early as well.   If using game film as an indicator, why wouldn't opposing coaches try it?

The D-Line of Fisher could have a big day against UR's young OL.

With all of  this being said, UofR is a dangerous opponent as Salisbury looms large for Fisher next Saturday.

Maybe I missed it but has there been any word on Bailey's ankle? He looked like he would be fine after the game, but I was hoping someone would have some information on if he will be 100% this week.
You'll see him under center Saturday night.

Special teams were obviously a positive!  Hopefully they continue their effort all year...

The two freshman backs, Short and Zemaitis, make it look like SJF is going to get that powerful running game going in the future again...

The defense looks really aggressive, on several occasions there were 7/8 guys within a yard of the LOS...

The Safety's need to get their act together.  Coming up on way too often for no reason at all.  That's not going to cut it vs AU, IC and HC...
The safeties will be fine.   Fisher bit on the play fake to start the game, and got burned on it, but hunkered down pretty much the remainder of the game.   Zemaitis has Ze-maitis touch!  Hopefully it continues.   Anthony Short is the perfect ingredient to kick the offense up a notch.   He is tough as nails and makes people miss.  Think Darren Sproles or Leon Washington.   He is exciting to watch.

However... Fisher needs to reign in the penalties. Some of them were lazy and some of them were unacceptable (any personal foul call or even a celebration penatly when you're up 55-7 is unacceptable).  They need to control that because that will not work in conference play.

Bombers once again prove they can't handle the high ranking, losing 24-21 at Union.

Season comes down to SJF and Alfred now.
Wow, well Ithaca can still win the E8.  A bad loss, however.

i certainly hope fisher rights the ship today.
look for the offense to have a solid day...

buff is improved- but i say fisher by 10

I say it's a rout, at least by 3 touchdowns.  I'd give it 42-17 or something like that.  I think this will be a better gauge of Fisher's talent.  If it's close, there may be trouble in Pittsford!
Buffalo gave up 329 yards on the ground last week, and I anticipate this type of showing again.   Maybe not 329, but 200+.

Quote from: E8 on September 12, 2009, 10:39:27 AMAttitude and desire wins over talent.

Not once in the history of sports has this ever been true.  I don't care how many times ESPN, No Fear, and coaches of JV High School teams repeat it.
While I agree with what you are saying, my message is that if one thinks the pure talent alone is enough on the football field (or any sport for that matter) they are dead wrong.  Talent is never enough is the point that I am trying to make.

If you are not able to make the Buffalo/Fisher game tonight and have to watch it on Time Warner Sports, please turn down the volume on your TV and turn up SportsRadio950 ESPN  or sportsradio950espn.com.....  (if there is a slight delay, and you have a DVR, just pause live action for about 5-8 seconds while the radio catches up and then continue...you'll then be synced up)

Lots of good posts this week about Fisher football. Defintely a lack of a desire on and off the field vs MUC. This being my 4th Fisher, MUC game I thought Fisher would put together a game plan that would be more competitive. Mistakes do happen, good coaching and the ability to make adjustments should of kept this a good match-up. Yes Fisher looked good against the run, but MUC could of put up a seventy if the continued to pass. Even the tight ends were wide open. Hopefully they will be prepared to play this week vs Buff State.

I think they can forget about the MUC game.  The real season begins now for them I think.  I think Fisher should handle Buff State pretty handily.   I've been wrong before, however.  Too bad there isn't a Buff State repesentative on the boards to discuss their team.  There actually used to be one.
Forget the X's and O's.  If Fisher does not have an ATTITUDE today and play like they are ticked off Buff State actually traveled up the I-90 to play them, then Fisher could be in for a long season.   They need to have a fire inside that triggers when they step between the lines.    They have the most pure talent that they have had in a while at many positions, and sometimes TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH.  Attitude and desire wins over talent.   Fisher fans want to see a PISSED OFF team today.

They should.  Injuries, however, are not helping matters.

The Fisher-Buff State game will be on Time Warner Sports on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. It's channel 26 in the central New York market.
Right, but please turn down the TV and turn up sports radio 950, ESPN.

What kind of broadcast radius does 950 have at night?  Pep and I will be driving caravan back from Jersey and I'd love to tune in as soon as I can gain a signal (if at all).
I have been able to pick it up in Geneva before.
