USC cornerback Shareece Wright who was declared academically ineligible this fall is done with the NCAA. He is transferring to NAIA Southern Oregon University and could be practicing with the Raiders as soon as Sept. 15th.
Yeah, this is the same Shareece Wright who was facing a felony charge and time in a Cali State Pen before the charge was reduced.  Awesome!
Yes, SOU is known for picking up shady characters, but Wright shouldn't be characterized as such.  Do you know the story behind him "facing a felony charge and time in a Cali State Pen", or did you purposely frame it so he sounds like a thug?

From an article in the Riverside Press-Enterprise:

Quote
...

But last September the USC cornerback's world was twisted like a balloon animal when an incident at a party in Colton led to Wright being charged with a felony count of resisting a police officer, a dubious allegation considering he was never arrested in the first place. ...
...

Reports say that police were called to the scene of a party at a Colton house last Labor Day weekend and asked non-residents to leave. Wright refused, saying he was an overnight guest of the host and didn't want to drive after drinking.

Ultimately, three people from the party were arrested, although Wright wasn't one of them. Later, however, he was briefly detained and then charged with the felony.

After a series of plea-bargain negotiations, the charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor. In July, Wright learned that it would be reduced to a citation and eventually wiped from his record upon completion of 200 hours of community service.

Interesting differences in terminology between that story and 11's take on it...

Good to see that SOU is still....well...SOU.

Per the O-Live Board:

...Willamette's Mitchell has averaged 20 and 10 against less than stellar competition.  Don't expect him to get the points or boards he normally gets when he has to face the best frontcourt in the conference.  Linfield is going to have the same problem with Montgomery and Jurich, normally productive Wildcat big men will struggle...making nakamura, riley, gregg, sellereit, gebbers, etc. (this list doesn't really stop) that much more dangerous from outside.

WW does hold Mitchell back.  He gets 9 points on only 3-5 fg attempts.  Despite the attempt to choke (4 missed free throws in final :48), WW gets a road win by 1 point, 69-68.   WW showed something tonight with some amazing play in the final 7 minutes of the first half.  Down 12 at 6:48 to take a 1 point lead at half.  WU could not stop Pirates during that run.  This team showed a determination that was end of year/playoff-esque.  Now if I could just forget about the missed free throws....

I'm not so sure how much of that was WW's doing.  Mitchell was the unfortunate recipient of some questionable foul calls last night that kept him out of much of the game...

You can't even compare our Cats to your club, since you play in the So Cal Pee Wee league.

I guess this means you'll begin getting the Conestoga wagons provisioned, the canvas covers stitched, and the wheels re-plated. The Oxy-Linfield game is scheduled for Sept. 19, and the 950-mile trip should take you about 60 days, so plan on leaving McMinnville around July 1 just in case some of the oxen go lame.

Bob, do we need to ford any rivers along the way, and how is the hunting?

Don't worry about any rivers, but hunting may be a bit of an issue.  The natives don't like outsiders on their land so be sure to stay indoors at night.  Especially if you plan on venturing southeast of your destination...

For the record....

According to David Hawkins of the National Association for College Admission Counseling "Exclusivity in regards to admission helps determine any colleges reputation...."

albeit 2006 numbers....

Whitewater - 77.5%
Willamette - 76.2%

I'll interpret for anyone who can't figure it out.... although Willamette is a much smaller school and supposedly "better," they admit the same percentage of their applicants as UW-Whitewater.

Wow...that's crazy.  So WU can admit 76% of their applicants and still maintain their class profile (3.74 GPA, 1240 OLD SAT, 27 ACT)?  What's goin on at UWW then?

They try out for the team, and the 100 who make the team are given new BMW's to drive for free, and given top end condos to live in, also free of charge. We try to keep it quiet about the $500 a week spending money they get.

What model BMW? We accept nothing less than a 528i.

Sincerely,

USC Trojans Basketball Team

There...fixed.  Don't you badmouth my Trojans! >:(

Thought I'd clear up some of the misconceptions some of you have about Whitewater football.

Whitewater has 25,000 students. All of them are all-conference football players from major high schools from around the country. (even the women)

They try out for the team, and the 100 who make the team are given new BMW's to drive for free, and given top end condos to live in, also free of charge. We try to keep it quiet about the $500 a week spending money they get.

We have NO entrance requirements but contrary to what has been said here, it is not similar to the Army. The Army has raised it's requirements, and very few of our players can pass. That's sad, as it leaves little for them to do after graduation except work at McDonalds.

As for transfers, we lie about that. Most of them we list as transfers are 28 to 30 years old, and play in the Canadian Football League when not playing for Whitewater.

That's the basic formula for how Whitewater has built their program, and it seems to be working.

Great response years after the subject had died.  1 tip though: don't bring up admission requirements...

Congratulations Warhawks!

I was totally impressed with how well you guys # 7 shot down Merben Woo on the perimeter. Plays that he'd been getting around the corner on all season were cut-off at the line of scrimmage or for short yardage. Shutting down the big plays that Willamette has lived by all season was huge in securing the UWW win.

I take some solace in the knowledge that several hundred UWW fans contributed to Oregon's economy this weekend. Great turnout, Warhawk fans!

Fixed.  Number 7 on defense for the Warhawks was ridiculous.  WU had to run away from him just to get things going.  My helmet sticker goes to Warhawk DB #7 for his plays against the run on the perimeter.

Good discussion about recruitment. One factor not mentioned is the "right fit for me" element. My son was recruited by a number of Universities and Colleges, like many other players, including Lewis and Clark and Willamette. He turned them all down including Wabash which by the way has FANTASTIC facilities including  a state of the art weight room, The University of San Diego, Coe College, and the Coast Guard Academy. After visiting several campuses he decided to go to Linfield because it was the "right fit" for him.

We arrived late in the evening during a extremely rainy night and were greeted by ALL the coaches and several players. Coach Powell kept in touch with us after we returned to Arizona. We left it up to our son to make the final decision because he was the  one who was  going to give 4 years of his life to the college. After he graduated he told me he didn't regret one minute of it. Linfield was the right place for him due to their football tradition, coaches, teachers, players, and student body.

Once a Wildcat always a Wildcat!

Definitely...this can be the deal maker/breaker.  Fit and feel tend to become the biggest factors when students are torn between schools.

Question, how do you keep coming up with such young good teams?
Inquiring minds want to know!
...Actually, good coaching, good recuiting, good facilities, good university support, good community support, can get it done IMO.
It also helps to be a public institution of 9,000+ undergrads...with no other levels between you and the big dogs in Madison.

Not to mention admissions standards which are the equivalent of an Army recruiting office. "Are you breathing? Can you sign your name? Yes, an X will do. OK, you're in."

OxyBob

I wasn't gonna take it there.  You may have just started something... :P
