According to Chicago Breaking Sports, Wenger "impressed the scouts" by running  4.58 in the 40 while weighing in at 233 lbs at NW's pro day.

There is also some video on youtube of his workout.

Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uMe70Jl3yM

Stats from the NW pro day (compared to the big time LBs that were at the 2011 NFL Combine):

Height                5'10"
Weight               233 lbs
Vertical               34.5" (would have ranked 9th among LBs at NFL combine)
Broad Jump        10'5" (would have tied for 2nd)
Bench (225lbs)   23 reps (tied for 9th)
40 yd dash         4.56, 4.58 (4.56 would tie for 3rd, 4.58 would be 4th)
Shuttle               4.14 (5th)
3 Cone               6.79 (3rd)

Damn impressive measurables put up by Matt.

One thing that jumps out from the video is that he apparently also worked out as a FB, as they had him catching passes out of the backfield. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he was a very good RB in high school at Dakota.

Also, one would have to wonder if some team may try to slot him in at SS since he is a little on the small side to play LB.

robertgoulet,

Great post, hope Matt gets a real shot at the NFL! +k :)

Some really good numbers...however, I think you're right about that height - 5"10" isn't going to make it as a LB or FB in the NFL, IMO.  He'll have to find a little more speed to make it in the D' backfield, too, I'm affraid. He sure had a nose for the ball in the one game I saw him play!!  ;)

I think its safe to assume that if a player is listed at 6' in the nfl his actual height is more in the range of 5-10 or 5-11.  One scout says he was reminded of Zach Thomas after watching Wenger work out.  Zach thomas was listed at 5'11" but I've found multiple sources that have claimed that 5'11" was very generous.  London Fletcher is listed at 5'10" but I'm willing to bet he is more in the 5'9" range.

Another fact about Wenger that nobody has mentioned is that he was a 3-time state champion wrestler in high school as well, there are still alot of old school coaches in the nfl that would put alot of value in that.

I didn't think we would when Lenny left in 05, but we plugged in Wenger and he turned out to be better than Lenny.

I'm not so sure about that...

Surely you can't be serious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A5t5_O8hdA

Lenny had 466 tackles to Wenger's 422.  Wenger also played 7.5 more games than Lenny between playoffs and the half a game he played his first senior year at Ohio Northern.  That means Lenny averaged 11.4 tackles per game to Wenger's 8.7.  And, as a whole, Wenger had a much better d-line to keep the offensive linemen off of him than Lenny did.  Was Wenger more explosive?  Certainly.  He was impressive because he really made contact with an exclamation point.  But I think that Lenny had a better nose for the ball and the numbers show it.

Wenger had 47.5 tackles for 169 yards loss, 246 solo tackles, and 10 interceptions compared to Radke's 36 tackles for 111 yards loss, 215 solo tackles, and 9 interceptions.  If you ask me those numbers show a "nose for the Ball".  Assisted tackles are great but alot of the time they occur after someone else has already stopped a runner.

Since all 3 of NCC's AAs were seniors, I fear their chance may have gone by the by for now.
I believe that one of their AAs has a year of remaining eligiblity and is strongly considering returning for a 5th year.  Nothing is certain until it is certain however (my take off on Yogi's, "It ain't over...).  Beyond that, I wouldn't be so quick to slam the window, given the players that the Cardinals will have on their roster in the fall (including tose currently on campus and those that my transfer in during January or September).

Yeah, but Wenger, especially, may be a once-in-forever talent that is irreplaceable.  I have little doubt that NCC is still the favorite in the CCIW, and probably a top 10 (perhaps even top 5) team, but for cracking the Big Two ...?

Wenger was a HUGE reason why Coppage got barely over one-third the yards against NCC that he got against UMU! ;)

Are you working on any plans to get Wenger another year?! :D

Unless NIU makes it a habit to turn away prospective walk-ons of Wengers talent (due to being too slow and too small)  I don't see North Central getting another Wenger in the near future.  But I do think that they will continue to be a top 5 team regardless of whether they have Wenger/Coppage type of superstar player on their roster.  Will Mount Union have a player on their roster next year that is as good as Krnic, Shorts or Garcon?

I dont think any of the injured Wesley players could prevent any of the sacks or poorly thrown balls.

Spencer Staneck's stats for last 5 games: 44-59-691, 9 td, 1 int., 110 yds rushing 3 td.

Since NCC has the #1 seed and homefield advantage I would take them by a large margin, I cant see UWW getting more cold ones down. ;D

This week is going to go very slow..  It gives posters plenty of time to talk about the game, but the fact is NCC played UWW in 2007 and that game means very little at this point.  It will be the same talk all week.

1.) The UWW rushing attack vs the NCC rushing defense.
2.)  Can the Cardinals work the passing game against UWW who has given up an average of 324 yards in the first two playoff game?
3.)  Will Blanchard play and prove to be an X factor?
4.) Which coaching staff will make the best adjustments on the fly?

and the most important factor of all......

Which teams tailgators will put down the most cold ones before the start of the game :)

I lose karma for stating a legitimate concern? ???  You Whitewater people must be a little touchy about your injured players.
#10
Whitewater may have problems passing if they do go with Blanchard, I was under the impression that he injured his throwing hand and hasn't seen any action in almost three weeks.  A little rust and soreness in your throwing hand may lead to inaccuracy and costly turnovers.
#11
NCC destroyed a team that beat Franklin earlier in the year, would that mean that NCC would beat Franklin without the problems that Whitewater had?  I'm thinking common opponent means nothing, especially at this point in the year.
#12
I think NCC has a good solution for Coppage.  Brent Donley met him several times today, though I doubt he remembers it. :o  NCC will be able to hold their own, should be a good game.

Hlavac played last week, he was out the previous 2 weeks with an illness.  Just watched the redzone, Thorne said that Kyle Antos was almost chosen as the Offensive player of the year over Evan Jones.

I would be suprised if St. Norbert could put up 17 against NCC's defense, nobody in the cciw put up more than 14 against them.  If they do have a soft spot its right in the middle, a 5 yd dump pass should do it ;).

As long as DIII teams get to determine who their champion is I'd leave the BCS comparisons to a minimum. ;D
