Anyone know if UTD will have a video feed? I only see live audio and stats links on their page...

Are you joking me right now? After they lost kent caveman, Wheaton is certainly going downhill. Let's apply some basic 8th grade statistics (which I'm sure we all know):

Wheaton  <  Hope
Hope < Carthage

Therefore, Wheaton < Carthage.

Interesting... but by the same method:

Carthage < Calvin
Calvin < Wheaton

Therefore, Carthage < Wheaton.

You realize that you're arguing with someone who has "Bo's Elementary School" and "Steve D all by himself" ranked ahead of Wheaton, don't you?

yeah... i mean, on top of the fact that he has carthage at #4...
but it was too tempting. i couldn't resist. the opportunity was too perfect.

So I was listening to the interview with Coach Schauer after the Wheaton - Loras game, and one of the things he said was that he was surprised that Ben Panner was not mentioned in the preseason All-Americans. He definitely seemed to think that BP was "one of the ten best guards in the country." I would probably agree, on the strength of his exceptional defense and consistently good offense over the years; he's obviously been overshadowed by Kent, especially offensively, but I don't know enough about other guards around the country (I've seen the WashU pair and Steve D) to completely judge that. Any thoughts?

Wheaton wins in PKs, after finishing regular time 2-2.

Ryan Seager blocks 3 pks in the shootout

I've been reading the boards for quite some time now but have never posted.  I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the odds are of more tickets becoming available tomorrow before the first game.  I was out of town when they went on sale and was planning to swing over and pick some up over lunch on Wednesday but they sold out before I could get there.  Then I tried again at 2 pm today but the extra tickets sold out and apparently people who had been waiting since before 1 pm failed to get tickets.  I have been to almost every Wheaton game for five years and now I'm going to miss the biggest game yet?!?!  I'm frantic and desperate for tickets.  Is there any hope for getting one tomorrow?

I don't know when the tickets the other schools have will be returned, but St. Thomas/Puget Sound will almost certainly not sell all of theirs... Whenever they return them a large amount of tickets should become available. Also, I know some tickets (like mine) are reserved at the SRC, but if they haven't been claimed before 6pm Friday, I believe they will go back on general sale. You could contact wheatontickets@gmail.com for more information or to see if you could reserve a ticket, but you may have to be a student to use that avenue. At the very least, it will be on the WETN TV channel and online.

A question to those who may know: what happens to those UST/UPS tickets for people who aren't watching the second game? Cause that will create space, but no one to claim it...
Or are tickets for the first and second game sold seperately?

Having played and seen both teams. I give Wheaton a slight edge on any floor.
Panner and Raymond vs. Wallis and Thompson edge to Wheaton. Panner might be one of the most underrated players aroung.

Nading vs. McCrary - very slight edge Nading

Weile v. Wash U. - edge Wheaton.

This could be one of those games that are remembered for a long time.

Anyone have any insight on the Wash U-Wheaton game? I know wallis/thompson/panner/raymond are all great offensive players (even Panner, though he doesn't get as much attention as kent), but how are wallis and thompson defensively? because panner and kent are very good on both sides of the ball. I'm guessing panner will guard thompson and kent will guard wallis..? with maybe jahns/mccrary spotting them?
and how are the WashU post players? will wiele be able to dominate (after skemp, anything should be a tad easier), and will carwell/mccrary be better than their counterparts?

On the Plattville game...

- great crowd for Platteville. they did a great job and had lots of energy. you can really tell that its spring break, there is little student support for Wheaton. good local crowd though, and lots of kids. it was nice to see the wheaton players crowded by kids after the game. it was kind of ridiculous though, some older fans were asking us to sit down throughout the game, saying it was "rude". It's a NCAA playoff game!! maybe the best team to come to King Arena all season in maybe the best game, and we need to sit down??

- Free throws almost did come back to bite us. 22-37 won't cut it. that's less than 60%. we did shoot many more free throws than them, and i do think they committed more fouls although the reffing was at times really tacky, and at times too loose. I hesitate to say the whistle went one way or the other, but Wheaton did shoot more FTs. We can't shoot this poorly from the line next game though. We may not win that kind of game vs. Wash U or St. Thomas.

- Wheaton won despite shooting 44% to UWP's 50%. Our defense will have to do better against Wash U.

- Jeff Skemp is incredible. Best center I've seen play in person. He was just unstoppable, getting great position by using his size very effectively. Carwell and Wiele really battled with him all night. If our strategy was to let him get his and deny everyone else, it worked and almost backfired. He is that good by himself. I know Ruch and Skemp have been compared, but I think while Ruch is a better shooter and slightly more athletic, Skemp is better. He uses his body better and is completely unstoppable on the block. He does get the ball a bunch more than Ruch does.

- Raymond was off, although he did show flashes of his brilliance. He did get pushed and shoved and hacked all day, but hopefully he will unleash on Wash U.

- even when Kent and Wiele shot a combined 12-35, Wheaton won. Lots of other players stepped up. Panner played a great game, both offensively and defensively. That missed free throw did cause some stress, but it worked out. Jahns hadn't seemed to be shooting well lately, but hit that huge three and made free throws down the stretch. Pflederer had a big three and that putback of Raymond's miss with 5 seconds left to seal the game. He really is a energy boost off the bench.. McCrary didn't score a lot, but had some nice assists, some blocks, and some big rebounds.

- It's a real pity UWP had to lose. They fought hard and played well, and I wish this could have been in the Final Four rather than second round. criminal indeed. i really enjoyed watching them play and really admired them.

- Wash U is going to be a completely different game. Great guards but no dominant post players? Panner and Raymond may be one of the best guard sets in the country though, both offensively and defensively, so I am thinking Wheaton will do well, especially if it is at Wheaton. How are the Wash U guards defensively? Anyone that has seen both teams play want to give a preview?

- I guess now we wait till hosting sites are announced. I think if Wheaton hosts, they should be favored, if only slightly, to beat Wash U and St. Thomas, despite it being the end of spring break. Maybe by Saturday night a bunch of students will be back, if we win Friday.

UW Platteville is an amazing team and it took an amazing game from Wheaton to beat them. It was a great game, fantastic to watch, though heartstopping at times. Props to all the Platteville fans that made it to the game, you were a great crowd..

I know this has been said many times, but this should have been a Final Four matchup. The game was definitely worthy of it.

I can only hope you'll be pulling for the orange and blue the rest of the way. :)

Brent Rusch was a monster for Elmhurst.  He was big and broad and a load in the low post.  Once they got the ball to him he just backed down his defender and powered the ball up to the basket.

How does Ruch compare to Jeff Skemp?

While we're on Kent, perhaps the most memorable part of the night for me was watching Kent Raymond follow up one of those blocked shots by sinking a 3-pointer right in front of the Elmhurst student section while they chanted "overrated" right at him.

Someone that attends the Wheaton games regularly has put up clips from the Elmhurst games (Wheaton's away win and conference finals) and the home NCC regular season finale. Lots of great plays, he's done a good job of getting most of the important, spectacular, or momentum changing plays for Wheaton. You can find them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/jonm145

Sweet find! Thanks for the links.

I know I am a little late on this post but these are sweet highlights.  Did anyone notice how Harris called TO's after both momentous dunks?  Why does he always seem to do this?  I am sure that the Elmhurst coach would have taken at least one TO.  I would think (I'm no coach) you would want to let your team feed off the energy these plays create, right?

This is a great question and I agree with you.  I can tell you what I have heard as the answer from coaches I've talked to who employ the same strategy:  they feel that after a potentially demoralizing play such as the ones you give as examples, they want a time out to give the other team more time to sit and feel the loss of momentum, the embarrassment of being dunked on, etc.  Not sure I buy it, but it's an answer I've heard more than once.

I think this could definitely be plausible, but I feel this would be far more effective if the team that had just taken the momentum was the home team with good fan support, so the crowd could really be loud during the timeouts, multiplying the discouragement factor. This was definitely true for these two dunks at Wheaton, the Thunder fans were loud and cheering throughout the entire timeout both times.

A non-ncaa question for discussion:
What would a CCIW All-Defensive 1st/2nd/3rd Team look like?

well it would not have any North Park players on it.   :D

:D +k

Maybe not even any IWU players..? Sean Dwyer... maybe? :)

I was thinking players such as DRENNAN, prince, twyman, RUCH, bainter (if only for blocking kent twice), steve d, PANNER, CARWELL, kent?, mccrary?, jahns, COLLINS, most of the augie guards.. i didn't really know since i haven't watched any games that didn't include wheaton.

What if St. Thomas gets upset, but Wash U comes out of the Elmhurst regional? Would Wash U host over Wheaton?
