From what I heard Elmhurst did not put in a request to host because of problems with the floor.

February 14, 2020, 10:29:46 AMQuote from AndOne, All I'm saying is that it seems like teams like BU and SNC often get highly ranked not due to the fact that they are truly superior teams, but rather because they are often easily able to build up a high number of wins/winning percentage due to the fact that so many of the other teams in their conferences are so bad. And that if they played in a tougher conference such as the CCIW they would likely not have such sterling records and correspondingly high regional rankings. You know that almost every year you hear how the CCIW teams are going to beat up on each other during the season and possibly cost some a chance at the national tournament. You don't hear that about teams who are almost guaranteed high rankings because they face such little competition within their conference(s).
A large percentage of CCIW games are absolute wars from start to finish. In inferior conferences dominated by one or two teams, such is often not the case.
Granted the NACC & MWC from top to bottom does not compare to the CCIW. The Bottom line is this, you have the play the games on the schedule (conference)! Benedictine's Non Conference schedule year in and year out which is only 5 games is as strong as anyone else. Most years its 5 CCIW opponents, years were a trip are involved a good tournament with good teams hoping that it does not hurt the SOS. Every year it is the same thing from AndOne comments about others schools because of rankings or because of the Conferences the schools play in. Want to solve the whole problem that has been an issue for years, the powers of the CCIW should take BU in as it's 10th team, making the CCIW even stronger, and stop all this nonsense! Last point, with regards to Mike Boatright and Matt Helwig playing or not playing in the game played this year, things happen for a reason that is why we play the game. both BU & NCC have made adjustments since that game and neither school has missed a beat. On that night Boatright contributed to a win, and Helwig was still in the thought process of trying to break the lineup to get some minutes. AndOne, enjoy the remaining games left in the season and hoping all schools can finish out strong and make their cases to the NCAA committees for what happens on the Basketball floor not by someone's opinion! THE END!

I totally agree with Greg playing a non conference schedule against weaker teams may get you Wins but in the long run the committee looks at the strength of schedule!
BTW back when Carroll was in the CCIW the first time, the NCC Cards made a lot of trips to California and Florida playing D2's and Ranked NAIA's to get ready for the CCIW Season. So I believe playing a strong non conference schedule gets you noticed by the NCAA committee and gets you ready for the battles that are ahead in conference play! Racking up wins against teams that are weak hurt you in the long run!

And One,
In the case of BU Is it fair to punish a team just because the "league schedule they have to play" is not as strong as other leagues, I guess then what St. Norbert has accomplished with winning over 50 league games in a row should they be put into the same standard? My advise just win baby! Fix your house and things will work out!

Dennis,
I think you need to look at the History books Dr John (84) Grad from NCC was part of Bill Warden's first team to make the NCAA Tournament in 1983-84. Lost to UW Whitewater the first night and beat Illinois Wesleyan the second night (when they play a consolation game) so he has been a part of NCAA History. And even further Dr. John won a National Championship at Rowan!

NCC lost to St. Norbert's in the first round of the 1984 NCAA D 3 tournament, the next night in the consolation game, NCC won at UW Whitewater vs Illinois Wesleyan, 1985 NCC lost to UW Whitewater in the First Round and Lost in a Consolation game to Monmouth. In 1989 NCC beat Millikin in the first round before losing in the Regional Final to UW Whitewater. In 1990 NCC lost to Illinois Wesleyan for the right to go to the sweet sixteen.

Titan Q yes a good source told me that Clayton Cahill was going to be transferring back home to St. Louis for his senior year and attend Fontbonne and play for Steve Schafer who had a part in recruiting Clayton to North Park.

To early to tell, lets see how well the Young Cardinals perform when the stakes are turned up and higher! I do know this, they have talent, they are extremely well coached, they are loose and not supposed to be here! The only thing that really stands in their way, they have to perform and play back to back nights when they are now the hunted with the target on their back, instead of hunting the other teams they play! One other comment, out of their 8 man rotation, if I am correct they have 4 guys (Evans, Gillespe, Raridon, and I am sorry the name of the Transfer that has come on and helped since being healthy who have performed) with veteran leadership and have been thru the wars in the CCIW. And the 4 Freshman have done a great job. But this group is a nice balance of both vets and freshmen!

Greg,
Your absolutely correct when you said Robert Brown was one of the best that ever played in the CCIW, The defense employed by IWU on that March night in 1990 was a box in one on Robert Brown, not Mike Roy. The problem was Mike Roy had his worst shooting night in the 2 years he played for the Cardinals. Coach Bridges and his staff did not want Robert to take over the game as he did the previous two games that year! Even when the Cardinals started out with the first 10 points of the game, IWU never came out of the Box in One!

instead of looking to wisconsin for the CCIW why not chek the schools in Illinois first. If your looking at St. Norbert's (Catholic School) would it make sense to look at Benedictine (Catholic School) since they have upgraded the facilities and they are not finished yet to completing the faclilites! St Norbert's recruits the Chicago Area very hard. travel wise Benedictine makes the fit with the CCIW!
