I'm interested in hearing what kind of recruiting year CC schools are having. I heard that Ursinus got stud RB/SS Bryan Ellis from the McDonogh School in MD. The kid is an absolute beast and will be an impact player as a freshman. They also got Neill Kennedy, a DB/WR also from McDonogh. Very smart kid with great football instincts who will develop into a nice asset. Susquehanna is bringing Alex Terpening, brother of DE Trevor. He'll probably be moved to WR. Any others?

Sorry to go off-topic on you guys, but my son is looking to apply to a few Centennial Conference schools. He is interested in whether he can play both football and basketball. Does anyone know how much of an overlap exists between the end of the football season and beginning of basketball practice?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

If you enjoy the ancient history of the game and live in Eastern PA or nearby, I strongly recommend attending the Single Wing Conclave. I have attended 3-4 times over the years and have always enjoyed learning the X's and O's as well as the great history of offensive football theory. In past years attendees have come from as far away as Europe, Yet the group is normally around 100 people and everyone, including the speakers is available 24/7 and completely willing to share their knowledge and experience.
Warren, this year they're even having a full seminar devoted to the Buck Lateral.

That was an historic game you saw. That was the first formal game of the Ivy League and Harvard crushed Cornell, 32-7, in Ithaca. I think that was Lloyd Jordan's last year as Harvard's HC.

For those of you who may be interested in what the heck we've been talking about; Ted's A Formation playbook (among others) is available here:
http://www.coachteed.com/freedl/offense.html
I've unashamedly stolen much from Mr. Seay over the years. The best route combo I got from him was a slant/whip- wheel combo. Basically, the slot runs a wheel and the SE runs slant (pick) against man coverage or whip against zone. Its a easy read and throw for the QB. His Wild Bunch stuff (adapted from Coverdale, et al) is excellent too.
I met Ted between his posting in Fiji and Vienna. It's nice to know our nations diplomats are so versatile.

Warren,
It's funny that you'd mention the "A" formation. I actually sat in on a presentation at the Single Wing Conclave by Ted Seay on the "A" formation. Ted is a fascinating guy, who spends much of his time updating historic offenses into contemporary playbooks. I ran some "A" formation plays when I coached my son's youth league team. Given your interest in the early aspects of the game I recommend that you visit the Single Wing, Etc discussion board over at Delphi forums. Ted is a regular participant, a generous guy and a wealth of knowledge. If you're nostalgic for the teams of your youth, a fellow named Jim Barg has the most extensive collection of dvd's of games as early as the 1920's. I believe he even has one of Harvard that was filmed by Thomas Edison. In any event, the history and lore of the game is alive and well on that forum and it is well worth a visit.

Yes I did Ralph. I'm sure you're also aware that Baugh was the original spread QB playing for the TCU Horned Frogs under Dutch Meyer. What I'm unsure of is whether Baugh's skills led Meyer to develop the spread or if Slinging Sammy was recruited to bring an already-conceived offense to its fullest potential. At any rate, in today's vernacular- Baugh was a beast and that offense was tailor-made for him.

Warren, I responded to your e-mail, but also wanted to say on this board that there is a considerable renaissance in the ancient formations of football. Today's spread offense is regarded as latest hottest thing. However, its original form came spread formation invented by Coach Leo R. "Dutch" Meyer in the 1930's at Texas Christian University. Miami's wildcat looks a lot like some of the early belly series from a variety of practitioners including Biggie Munn at Minnesta I believe. In any event, it's great to see how today's best football minds are adapting the foundations of the game to today's athlete.

Thank you all for your input. I wouldn't characterize my son as an option QB, but he can run. He seems to be most effective from the shotgun. Is there a CC team that runs exclusively or predominantly from the gun?
Thanks again

Greetings,
I don't know if this is the right place to be asking such questions; but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about which of the CC schools would be the best fit for a spread QB. My son is starting to look at schools and were trying to steer him in the direction of the Centennial Conference. Specifically I'd love to hear opinions on which schools have the best QB coach and where a QB can compete on his merits.
Thank you in advance for any info/opinions.
