Don't leave out Millsaps (12-5) and BSC (13-1) from the SCAC. Trinity is pretty impressive with the bats, but lag defensively and on the bump. Also, I believe this is Birmingham Southern's first year eligible for post season play...

I completely understand that. I just found it surprising that someone who was rated a Perfect Game 10 multiple times and was hyped up as having professional level hitting and power abilities out of HS would end up at a d3. I'm not knocking d3 by any means. I have played at the d3 level and have seen many a great player come out of d3, I just find it interesting that a hyped up guy such as himself ended there.

Does anyone know how Jordan Ott ended up at CLU? I was glancing over the PG website and he was ranked a PG-10 multiple times. It seems odd that someone with his size and abilities would be at CLU.

The weather today didn't look to be the primary issue, but instead the amount of practice time I am assuming both teams have had. I am more familiar with Conway and Hendrix and can say there is no possible way Hendrix has held more than two practices on a baseball diamond. I cannot remember any time in recent memory that the weather has been this much of an issue. I assume that with improved weather conditions, the teams will be able to get more outdoor practice time; there is only so much you can do in a gym/cage.
Despite the large amount of errors, most of them were not extraordinarily bad. The shortstop from Millsaps had a handful, although he seems like he is pretty sure-handed and will be much improved later on.

Gelber was impressive today in his second start of the season (10 scoreless innings already). If Tigert can get his self back on track, it looks like the staff will be hard to beat..again.

Soon after shoveling heaps of snow off the diamond, Hendrix traveled down to a warmer (slightly) U. of Dallas and swept the first series of the year for the Warriors. Forgerson picked up where he left off, homering for his third straight game dating back to the West regional tournament. Look for big things from both Forgerson and previous first team All-SCAC selection Eric Mathis. With those two big bats and plenty of guys who can scrap their way on base, the offense will not be an issue. Only one arm has departed (Gnat) and the rest should be well rested. A freshman is in the three slot and shut down U. of Dallas this past weekend to secure his first collegiate win. Smoyer, Suydam, and Keine are all returning with their spot in the rotation and all but one member of the bullpen is back. The Hendrix club lost only one starter and three other players to graduation last spring; look for a very competitive program yet again.
I also find it very intriguing that Hendrix has received absolutely no love in the preseason predictions, polls, and other hoopla. This team cruised its way through the SCAC Tournament, returns all but one starter, yet is hardly considered in the SCAC preseason release? Can someone please explain this logic..? Good luck to the SCAC 2010!! TGIBS!

I enjoyed both of those columns.
To expand on something from one of those columns: The D3 rankings at the Boyd's Worlds site (http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/isr/d3_isr.html) are a little quirky because they depend on the accuracy that they know to be less than perfect. For example, they show Millsaps with a 36-6 overall record and I believe it is closer to 32-8. But in general, it seems to be fairly close and this is what they have for Strength of Schedule for teams in the SCAC West as of today:
Hendrix schedule is rated #1
Austin College is #4
Millsaps is #6
Trinity is #7
Southwestern is not on the list and hasn't been all year. I imagine they are in or near the top-10.
Now what do you think the Hendrix record would be if their SOS was #100 instead of #1? Do you think any school in the SCAC West would even be below .500 if they had a SOS of #100 instead of one of the 10 toughest schedules in America? I think a lot of people make the mistake of simply looking at win-loss records to gauge the strength of a conference. They don't look at the strength of competition faced. It says a lot that Millsaps went 15-7 against SCAC foes and 15-0 against non-conference D3 teams.

It looks like the numbers are updated daily and it looks as if Austin is now ranked at #2! This means the SCAC west boasts teams with SOS' of 1, 2, 6, 7, and I cannot seem to find where Southwestern is listed. Regardless, WOW! Four of the five teams have top-ten SOS..

Congratulations to Hendrix for being recognized in todays D3baseball.com poll! I am pretty confident in saying this is the first time HC has ever received any votes whatsoever!

It looks like Trinity can't keep the ball in their glove's! Hendrix has capitalized each and every time....all 7 runs off of Solomon have been unearned! Well...defense and pitching wins championships right??

Do you believe in Miracles? Maybe all those games against ranked opponents (Tyler, Chapman, CLU, Pomona, Millsaps) and D-II opponents (Harding, Ouachita) has payed off..

Can someone please explain to me why Redlands is ranked ahead of CLU in the freshly-releases regional rankings!? CLU has a better record, has played tougher competition(especially considering Hendrix is now making a threat to beat out Millsaps for the SCAC), beat Redlans in the regular season, and Redlands currently is sitting in 3rd place in the SCIAC while CLU is in 2nd! I'm quite confused by this...

I think it is also important to note that CLU's Alex Casillas made his long awaited season debut this past weekend...this gives CLU 4 top-notch starters to go along with Minich and Seldon in the pen...Casillas no-hit Menlo last yr and was the ace of the squad..
