Great game and great season SJU.
In my opinion, there is no question the Johnnies are a Stagg Bowl team.
It just happens that 2019 has three Stagg Bowl quality teams.

I hope Erdmann gets to pursue whatever opportunities he dreams of, he has what it takes.

Tough way to end one of the best QB careers in D3 history - a short dump pass over the middle and a bounce off the RB for an interception.  I can't imagine reliving that play in your mind over and over again for the rest of your life.  But seems an NFL career is in his future and maybe the next Tom Brady.

OZ, that's actually not a bad idea.  Demolish O'Shaughnessy Stadium and replace it with a D1 6000 seat hockey arena much like MSU Mankato has.  Fold St. Kates into St. Thomas and looks to be ample space in the area of Fairview Avenue S and Bayard Avenue for D1 Football Stadium.  At that location, there is a soccer field, a softball diamond, tennis courts, a large parking lot and the Sister Alberta apartments.  A secondary location would be at Cleveland Avenue South and Bayard.  We would need to remove a lot of trees and a pond to make that location work.  That would be a great walk down Cleveland Avenue from D1 St. Thomas to the new football stadium.

As an aside, I never realised how big, beautiful and leafy the St Kate's campus was until I looked at it on Google Maps just now.

Both of those locations at St. Kates have a larger footprint than that of TCF Stadium at the U of M.

I have mixed feelings about Tommie-Johnnie week now that we're leaving the MIAC and set to land somewhere in D1. In the past, the cheeky banter was fun because it added to the competitive spirit. Now it feels a bit unnecessary given that we'll no longer be competitors.

Part of me thinks that engaging in the banter would be like we're bullying the Johnnies. It's sort of like when Rudy left his friends at the mill and headed off to Notre Dame. He could no longer joke with his old buddies in the same way because their lives were on two totally different trajectories.

In short, go Tommies! Also, here's to the guys who will still be slogging it out at the mill...

Maybe we could take this in a different direction.  I am hearing rumors of a quarterback transfer to SJU.  This transfer will be their starting freshman quarterback in 2024 and happens to be a former preferred walk on from D1 St. Thomas.  Seriously, in what year will the Johns start benefiting from getting transfers from St. Thomas?  From which school will the Johns get most of their D1 transfers?  U of M? NDSU? Penn State? Northern Iowa? St. Thomas?

Oh, I reckon there's a ways to go until that ledger is even readable, much less balanced.

Interesting consideration for Tommie Johnnie week: who are the biggest transfers from one school to the other?

Obviously we've got our buddy I.A.
Late 90s St John's DE Phil Trier started with a year at St Thomas.
Technically Josh Parks is a transfer through St John's.

Who else?

I remember there was a kid that played basketball transferred from SJU to UST.  I seem to remember that the chants of "You're a traitor" coming from the SJU fans.  I would need to go back and look at archived rosters to figure who that was.

Perhaps this was already discussed, but does the MIAC go forward with a shorter football schedule, or do they need to schedule three nonconference games?

We've talked in part as to what the possible outcomes might be. The following are listed in no particular order - but what makes the most sense for the Tommies now?

1. Jump directly to D1.
2. Go the "standard route" and go through D2 to D1.
3. Stay in D3 and join another conference like the WIAC or ARC.

Fall out discussion:

1. How long before MAC comes back to the MIAC for football?
2. Can St. Scholastica beat them out of that position? (Or any other school for that matter?)
3. How disparate will be the scores between the Tommies and the CoL? (It is my opinion that we are going to have some mighty entertaining games this fall.)

FWIW - I can see how the Tommies could make a better spin to the NCAA because they were "kicked to the curb" as opposed to wanting to leave the MIAC.

Conspiracy theorists are saying, "I know - it all was an evil genius ploy all along to get the NCAA to play along so that the Tommies don't have to do 5 years of penance in D2."

So many tangents, so little time.

My preferred conference routes are:
1. WIAC
2. ARC
3. Summit/Pioneer? - D1
4. NSIC - D2

As far as the scores for this fall - I favor the approach of getting up by 40 in the 1st quarter and then just play crushing defense and kneel the ball every down on offense, if that's what they really want us to do.

How about St. Thomas just send their JV squad to St. Olaf as the JV would probably beat them by three TD's.

Is the concept of preparing for the future lost on you?  You post these rugby? cricket? lacrosse? or whatever it is and think we are interested.  This is a "football" board and not a "who gives a **** about that sport" board.  Get a clue asshol* and stop posting.

Let me ask you a question, PR.  Was English Comprehension 101 a challenge for you?  Surely it was, otherwise you would know that your foam-speckled raging exactly supports the point I made.  I'm sure the UST administration serve their condescension with less froth, but I wouldn't be surprised so see them holding out the same cup.

Our cup runneth over with MIAC championships - with all honesty, has gotten very boring.

LATEST INTEL NEWS FLASH: (different Source than my normal, but is usually fundamentally accurate) UST goes into the meeting and will be allowed to state their case. UST contingent tells MIAC Presidents their long term expansion plans. Basically saying they are going to grow bigger and the enrollment gap is only going to get larger. UST administration is totally expecting to be voted out and seem to be fine with it. This has been brewing for a while and it seems UST has been preparing (Hiring of Phil Esten among other things).

If UST is so proactive, then why wait to be kicked out?  Why not leave gracefully without the bad blood?  It's seems a bit unnecessary to help feed a situation full of discontent and effectively say, "We're going to s**t all over you, just saying, so kick us out if you want."  Why not recognise your ambitions no longer align with your conference colleagues and say goodbye like a gentleman?

Seems a bit churlish to me, to be honest.

Where are the UST faithful going to migrate for their posting/bantering pleasures after the Toms have moved on to "greener pastures"?

I will come back here to see how the little people are doing.

The hiring of Phil Esten is very telling. Why would the associate athletic director at Penn State take a DIII job unless he is charged with the challenge of moving UST forward in the food chain?  UST will be moving on and has outgrown the MIAC

As a Tommie faithful, I think it is time for St. Thomas to move on to bigger and better things.  The only thing that keeps me interested is the rivalry with St. Johns and the occasional challenge from Bethel.  I am so sick of the constant blow out games against the majority of the MIAC schools; specifically in football.  And, following football recruiting, this incoming Tommie class is just going to make things worse.  It would appear that Glen Caruso knows what's coming and has started recruiting against the NSIC - this incoming class is very impressive and clearly beyond what is required to compete against the MIAC.

Tough loss for the Tommies last night.Congrats on a terrific season which far exceeded most expectations, including this poster. Coach Tauer and staff truly do a great job over there at Cretin and Summit. Now if they could just find a couple of good sized athetic bigs to take the pressure of their sharpshooters.

I was able to watch most of the other Sweet 16 games, and man, are there some nice forwards left in the tourney. Should be another great night of viewing.

St. Thomas recruiting got off to a nice start with Lakeville North 6'7 senior forward Tate Staloch committing for 2019.

Does anyone know if Johnny Heller will return next fall? I believe he went down in the Johnnie game last year and may be eligible for a medical redshirt.

Not sure if he will be back, but hope so because he had a great season.  So when can we expect your commitment announcement's to start?  Any insights at this point with the HS football season now complete?
