The answer to your question is no, no one is talking about women's lacrosse.   :(    But, we can start up a lopsided rivalry because my niece plays for Linfield and they haven't won a game yet this year.

Maybe that rivalry would balance out the return of our football program.  :)

Just found this portion of the message board. Anyone on here talking D3 women's lacrosse? I'm a fan of George Fox out in Oregon, and the NWC only sponsors women's lacrosse. This is only the second season for GFU, but they are currently 8-1 on the year.

I'd love to have some chats about D3 Golf, but I really only follow it on the women's side. I'm a George Fox fan, and our women's team has had a pretty good run over the past few years. I had the chance to see them play in a tournament they hosted last weekend in Arizona, with #1, #3, #7, and #10 (I think), and they played really strong across the board.

Does anyone know where I could find the conference schedule for next fall. I believe the conference schedule is planned three years in advance. I know that game times can change, but the dates and home/away should be pretty well set. Can anyone help me out?

Oh good. Just wanted to make sure things hadn't changed since my PLU/CLU days.

Predicted Order of Finish in the NWC -

1) Linfield
2) PLU
3) Pacific
4) Willamette
5) Whitworth
6) George Fox
7) Lewis & Clark
8) UPS

George Fox pulls two upsets in their first season by beating Lewis & Clark and UPS.

Are wins over L&C and UPS really upsets?

I give Amherst a slight edge just from the experience factor alone.  Amherst at Hope 3 years ago thought they were "the" team starting 2 sophomores and 3 freshmen, but Wash U and experience mattered.  George Fox and their coach had been there before, and they won the whole thing.

Last year IWU had to think playing at home and making the Final 4 it was "their" year, but they came in 4th.  This group hadn't experienced the pressure before.  Christopher Newport thought with the leading scorer, there was no stopping them, but experience mattered.

So for that fact alone, and as long as Amherst doesn't get into foul trouble trying to guard the taller Munger, I think Amherst should pull it out.  Hard to tell from video, but I think Amherst might have an edge on speed, especially with their bigs.  Both teams have multiple weapons, Amherst may have a few more, but this weekend, just like last weekend, Gromacki won't go more than 6 or 7 deep until or unless the game is "in hand."

Can't wait for the fun to begin!!!!

About 2009... GFU had never been there before. The best they had ever done was one run to the Elite 8 in 2005. In fact, the 2009 team had no returning starters from the previous year that made the Sweet 16. Add in the one senior, and the 10 freshmen on the team, two of which started, and there wasn't much experience.

Experience does matter, but it isn't everything.

Never seen George Fox play this year, but they put up a good showing on one of the nations toughest defenses...on their home court...in a game about 2,600 miles away from campus on the opposite coast.  Granted the game will still be pretty far away (anyone know if GF is on spring break this week??  I can't see GF going all the way back to Washington, only to fly back east a couple days later) but I'd make Amherst a 2.5 point favorite.  They have the expierence (4th straight final 4) and frankly don't lose (this senior class only has 5 total losses their 4 years on the Amherst campus; 3 coming their freshmen year).

Couple thoughts: George Fox is from Oregon (not Washington), and they are back this week. They landed in Portland at about 12:30 this afternoon. My guess, based on previous experience, is that the NCAA will fly them back out on Wednesday. Spring Break is March 26-30, so the women will be in class until they fly out. They did the same thing in 2009, when they played in the sectional at Thomas More and then went on to Holland.

Very good point about the Amherst seniors. Three of those losses were their freshmen year, but two of them also came in the Final Four. 8-)

As for the Fox seniors, their record is 116-9, with two of those losses coming in the Elite 8 (WashU-2010, IWU-2011), and three coming to NAIA scholarship schools. Only one of those losses came at home.

Should be a great game. Can't wait! See you in Holland!

Blue Zone Bruin asked my thoughts on the Amherst/GFU game since I've seen both teams live a couple times now. That doesn't make me an expert on either team but here are my thoughts.

I think the Amherst/George Fox game is a toss up. I told the George Fox broadcasters last night that I'd make GFU a slight favorite. I picked Amherst in the preview column. So clearly I'm torn.

Gordon,

Thanks so much for your thorough break down of the match up. I know that you aren't an "expert on either team," but with the exception of the Bowdoin folks you are one of the very few that have seen both teams in person. That validates your perspective. The rest of us can melt speculate. Both GFU and Amherst fans know our teams well, but don't have a comparative set.

I do think it is great that eae two teams get to play each other. In the 2009 Final Four, we cheered for the Jeff's in their semi against Wash U (and TCNJ in the third place game), while their fans cheered for us against Both TCNJ and Wash U. Great fans, great team, great program.

There are a hundred ways to break the game down. Personally, I just can't wait for the opening tip!

Anyone on this board going to Holland? Im looking forward to the trip once again, regardless of the outcome!

Go Bruins!

Gordon,

Now that you've seen the Bruins play twice, I'd love to get your thoughts. Perhaps you're going to write something that will go up on the site this week, so I don't want to steal the punchline. Still, I'd love your initial gut level reaction.

Great season by the Eagles. Thanks for being such great hosts! I heard nothing but incredible things about your facility. (And thanks for getting the live stats issue straightened away for today!)

Calvin trounced Chicago by 18.  I'm so far keeping with my 'jumping in Holland' prediction of Amherst, George Fox, Calvin, and IWU.  With the rivalry against Calvin, I just think WE might be the 'home' team at Hope! ;D

Sure the Hope fans might cheer for you, but from my experience being there four years ago with George Fox, the only Hope fans there when their team hasn't made it are the hardcore elderly fans that bought their tickets in October and don't want the $8 to be wasted. With Grand Rapids about 20 minutes away, I would argue that Calvin will have the clear home court advantage, should they make it to Holland.

Very hard to win 4 over the same team in the same year.  Look at the trouble George Fox had with L&C.  This will be a fun game to watch.  Good luck to all.

As a Fox guy, I want to echo that sentiment. It's very hard! And considering how close the other Carthage/IW games have been, this one should be great. Carthage has what it takes and knows IW well. Go do it!

According to this: https://web1.ncaa.org/TES/exec/miles

Bowdoin  is 496 miles away from Leb Valley, which falls below the 500 mile mark.  GF will have to fly anywhere to matter where the sectional is, but if it's in Leb Valley the NCAA only has to fly 1 in (George Fox), but if it's at Mary Washington the NCAA will have to fly 2 (Bowdoin & GF)

You know the interesting thing is that if you use this NCAA site to calculate the distance, depending on which team you put first, you get two different answers. Bowdoin to Lebanon Valley - 496. Lebanon Valley to Bowdoin - 500. Interestingly enough, when the full bracket came out, I made a spread sheet of all distances in the George Fox bracket using the same NCAA mileage site, and Lebanon Valley to Bowdoin came up as 501. So, depending on how/when you use the site the NCAA followed their stated criteria. Now as to why the order makes a difference, that's a great question for someone to ask the NCAA. Not that it really matters at this point.

Great victory by the Bruins today, shooting 72.9% in the second half! Bruins all the way!
