In lieu of senior nights happening this week and some coming up this weekend I was checking into the senior classes of the 8 CCIW Schools. Elmhurst seemed to fall a little short this year, but with some good young talent, and a deep roster this should be changing. I wanted to see what other schools had coming back. I was quickly amazed by Augustana's roster. 1 senior??? How did this happen?

Doing a little research I noticed that Kevin Schlitter was a part of an at least 7 man recruiting class. What happened to the rest of the kids? I obviously haven't been following many CCIW programs closely since graduating, but this just seemed strange to me. That's a lot of kids from the same class to just "vanish" from the roster.

Anyways big game tomorrow night in Wheaton. I'm hoping to make the trip. I've played in a few HUGE games in the CCIW in King Arena and I know how special and awesome the atmosphere will be. Give my Wheaton by 2.

SCHEDULE CHANGE

For any interested parties, Elmhurst has changed the start times of both the women's and men's games vs North Central this coming Sat., 2/22.

The games were originally scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 respectively. However, at some point Elmhurst changed the start times to 2:00 for the women's game, and 4:00 for the men's as they are evidently entitled to do.

An interesting sideline to the changes was the fact that Elmhurst apparently failed to advise anyone at North Central of said changes, which were luckily discovered by accident only late yesterday afternoon. It seems one of the NCC men's ass't coaches was on the phone with an Elmhurst ass't to discuss the possibility of a men's JV game prior to the women's/men's varsity games Sat. When a JV time of 2:00 was suggested, the EC response was along the lines of "we can't do that because the women's game is at 2:00 and the men's at 4:00." This came as quite a surprise to both of the NCC head coaches who were in at the time as neither had heard anything about any change being made to the original 5:00 and 7:00 start times, and who were prepared to show up in accordance with those times.

Whatever the cause of the Elmhurst miscommunication  :-[, the new start times have now been confirmed for 2:00 for the women, and 4:00 for the men, and the two school's web sites have been adjusted to show the changes.

Seems like a double helping of good luck. Now, besides showing up at the newly scheduled times, any interested EC and NCC fans will be able to attend the IWU @ Wheaton battle @ 7:00.  :)

Elmhurst has been playing 2 and 4 pm Saturday doubleheaders for the past 2 seasons. The time of this game was never changed. All anyone at NCC had to do was pull up the ECBluejays website and check the schedule. Not sure how Elmhurst "miscommunicated" this information.

HUGE victory for Elmhurst today against Augustana. Probably the biggest win for the Jays program since February 2009 when we knocked off the Vikings in the CCIW tournament. Elmhurst is really playing with confidence again and they seem to be improving each time out. Extremely proud of what John Baines and Chris Martin are doing up there. They have the program headed in the right direction and headed there in a hurry. The question now is, "Can the Jays sneak in to the CCIW Tournament this season?"

I realize it's still a longshot with some tough road games coming up in the 2nd half, but they deserve to have that question asked at this point, and that is really saying something. Congrats Jays!

I was very sad to hear about Matt's passing on Saturday morning. I obviously got to know Matt very well during my playing days, and even though he wasn't the Men's basketball trainer, I still spent countless hours in the training room with him. He was a very fun guy to be around, and was extremely supportive of all Elmhurst athletics. He was definitely one of the "behind-the-scenes" people that helped make my college and basketball experience more enjoyable. Best wishes to his entire family. I hope they know just how loved and respected he was at Elmhurst College. He will be missed.

Elmhurst 77
Benedictine 76

Coach John Baines gets his first win at Benedictine last night. Bryant Ackerman came off the bench to score 20 points. Nick Sanford had another double-double with 17 and 10. Kyle Wuest also dropped in 17 to help the Bluejays get a road win.

Elmhurst is starting freshman Tucker Harlan from Washington, IL. He played 35 minutes last night and had 8 points. I believe that makes 3 players starting in the CCIW from the same high school team. Impressive, to say the least.

I would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to our very own, Titan Q! Thanks for all of your hard work and support for D3 athletics, especially the CCIW.

I'm excited about the big offseason that Elmhurst had. Bringing Coach Baines back was a huge step in the right direction, and with the recruiting class that him and Chris Martin landed, I think the Jays are going to surprise some people.

The 2013-2014 Wheaton Thunder roster is up:

http://athletics.wheaton.edu/roster.aspx?path=mbball&

Just four freshmen, all of them guards. The only big man that Wheaton has "added" this year, 6'7 Drew Wikelius, is a sophomore who was on last season's roster but didn't play due to injury.

Also noticed Michael Berg is still listed at 6-6 200lbs and Peter Smith 6-6 190lbs.   Hopefully they just haven't updated the height/weight on the returning players?

Apparently someone from Wheaton is reading the board. Michael Berg's weight has been updated to 210 pounds. After working out with him all summer, I can definitely say that he has added more weight and more importantly more muscle. Also notice that he has changed his number to his old high school number.

Wheaton is sure thin on the inside. Their guards are going to have to be very good for them to contend for the league title.

Up in King Arena for tonights huge matchup between IWU and Wheaton. Just received word that Nathan Haynes is sick and I don't see him warming up with the Thunder on the court.

Obviously this would be a HUGE blow to the Thunder, especially considering how physical Wesleyan is. With that said, Go Thunder!

Wheaton 70
Westminster 41

Wheaton can really defend. That was very evident in the second half of this game as they just ran away with it. I've watched almost all of their games this season, and the way that they defend will keep them in every game they play. Saturday will be a huge test for the Thunder! Looking forward to seeing how that game shakes out.

On a personal note, freshman Michael Berg (Midwest Central) had his best game of the season tonight with 11, 9, and 3. He has been improving each game and now with Teuscher out he is really gonna have an opportunity to step up his game.

Elmhurst moves to 0-5 with a 72-68 loss to Westminster at RA Faganel Hall tonight. The Jays were down by 24 at one point.

Yikes. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Wheaton 80
Capital 45

This was just a complete domination by the Thunder. Capital had serious trouble scoring all night.

Michael Kvam had 23 points and made 7 three point shots.

The Thunder really dominated a Capital team that had 4 returning starters from an NCAA tournament team.

I watched most of the Jays game vs. Carleton. Very disappointed in the Elmhurst effort tonight. I was secretly thinking that Elmhurst could contend for a top 4 spot in the CCIW this season, but after tonight I'm not sure. Defense wasn't a problem, but they really struggled to score. I was very encouraged by what I saw out of Taylor Baxter and Eric Leonard at the PG spot however. Hopefully, the Jays can figure it out before January begins.

Big blow for Wheaton in losing Coach Handy. He was a tremendous recruiter and an even better coach. He was always my favorite coach in the CCIW (besides my own) when I played. The CCIW is losing a good one, but I'm glad he got the opportunity. Best of luck Coach Handy!

On Wheaton recruit Michael Berg...

http://www.pekintimes.com/sports/x1231828924/Berg-among-Midwest-Central-s-best?zc_p=0

Always nice to see one of our regular posters get quoted in the print media!

Gonna be a little odd for me in the next 4 years. As an Elmhurst alum, I'm obviously always going to have strong ties and feelings to the Bluejays, but I'm going to turn into a HUGE Wheaton fan for the duration of Berg's career there. I am looking forward to watching him in the CCIW, and I know he is looking forward to his career at Wheaton. I'm not completely sure what coach Mike Schauer's plans for him are, but I know that he has some big shoes to fill with the loss of Tim McCrary. Go Thunder!
