South Region / BB: 2009 Regionals at Salisbury
May 12, 2009, 10:46:37 AM
I think the most likely to disappoint statement was a bit much.  They are a good team but not like last year. (So far)  There lineup is explosive.   The three pitchers with the most starts all have high era's.  The batting average against is high also.  But then again it is playoff time and good players rise to the top at this time of year.  You just never know what could happen.  I think they could wind up in the finals if the pitching performs.

South Region / BB: 2009 Regionals at Salisbury

Hopkins could do some damage in the region with the offense but the pitching doesen't seem to be that deep.  Can any of the south region teams contend with Top seeded Salisbury?

Can Hopkins still get in if they win the conference tournament?  Not sure how the process works.

What are everyone's thoughts on Salisbury making it past regionals this year? I have watched a few games and they seem to have a talented team.  Looking at the history of regionals they seem to be short on pitching or bring back guys on 1 and two days rest.  Could the same thing happen this year as looking at the stats the coach relys on bascially three pitchers.  Not a good thing at tournament time when you have to win atleast 5 to go forward.  Thoughts?

I have not seen Stevenson play but I think overall Salisbury's pitching and hitting are to deep for Stevenson to overcome in a three game series.  Should be a good series when they meet.

That was defineitly a bad decesion by the coach.  That kid will be tarnished for a long time because of that outing.  Game being out of hand bring anyone into throw and not let a kid go through that pounding.

I do believe Salisbury was on a mission this weekend to avenge two losses to St.Marys and York.  Pitching was great on Sat and the bats exploded on Sunday.

Historical/statistical archive / Re: 2-Way Players

A question was asked why aren't there more two way players in D1?  I think one reason is the number of quality players that are avaiable at the D1 level.  They don't need to have that many two way players.  Another reason from my standpoint is the time and dedicaion of a practice schedule for two positions at the D1 level.  From watching D1 and D3 baseball the overall talent level of hitters are different.  D1 lineups go much deeper than a D3 lineups that I have watched.  Pitchers need to be focused and dedicated at the D1 level.  D3 you can actually be a thrower and not a pitcher and get by.  Not bad mouthing either level just something I have noticed.
