richball, im not sure what your sources were but OU tried everything to play those games against Centre...they tried to get Centre to cancel their games against Lagrange and whoever else they played that week of spring break but Centre would not...from what I was told it was partialy because Centre didn't want to give up those games but also because Lagrange's coach wouldn't help OU or Centre out by moving games around...in the end it is not either Centre or OU's fault for not playing it is the way the schedule was built...oh and while you seem to be supremely confident that Centre would have won that series, OU was playing their best baseball then so while it is true that Centre has beaten OU the past few years I have no doubt that it would have been a very good series and I believe that at home OU would have played very well...the point in all of this is that all we get to do is speculate about it instead of actually seeing it settled on the field which is disappointing and downright wrong

Well, here goes my end of the season rant,

It is an absolute shame and a joke that this conference has a schedule designed so that teams can play an inequal amount of conference games. OU had a turnaround year and while they didn't help themselves by how they played at Depauw, they still should have had the opportunity to earn themselves a bid to Jackson. What I am trying to say is that after beating Sewanee's ace and then pounding their number 2 starter they did not get to play the 3rd game. Not to slight Sewanee but I firmly believe this would have been an OU win. Couple that with the fact that the series with Centre (which was at home!) got cancelled and what shakes out is unfair scheduling. I'm not trying to say OU would have beaten Centre because I am sure Centre could have played well and won but at least then it would have been settled on the field. I just find it unbelievable that the conference games (which are what should matter most when it comes to scheduling) could not be rescheduled or made up. I understand the money side of things but it is truly a shame that the OU player's season is over and it is partially out of their own control.

Like I said I realize that they could have won 2 out of 3 at Depauw to take care of business themselves and they didn't but they didn't get to play 4 games this season against the bottom two teams in their division (other than themselves obviously) and 3 of those games were home games. In the end they only got to play 3 home conference games all season! That is preposterous and I think the league needs to change the way it does the conference scheduling. Whether it be leaving an extra week at the end before the conference tournament so teams can make-up games or making every team play each other home and away, something needs to be done.

Oh well, there is my rant so good luck to all the teams this week, hopefully its a great tournament.

As a new follower of the SCAC I still find myself wondering how it is possible that the two divisons of THE SAME CONFERENCE can play a completely different format? As a follower of OU I can say I definitely believe the entire conference should be playing the way the West plays because that way every team is playing enough games so that if something happens like a rained out weekend like OU-Centre, there is less likelihood of ending up with a tie. As it stands a lot can still happen in the East but there is obviously the possibility of OU and Centre ending up with the same conference record. I just think it is ludicrous that the people who run this conference cannot set one format for the whole conference.

tonight was indeed a big win for OU...John Hale kept OU in the game by mixing speeds and keeping the ball down...the only mistake he made was one pitch to Mosby who hit a big 3 run homer to make it 5-3 Rhodes in the 5th...but OU fought its way back and scrapped together two runs to tie it with one in the 6th and one in the 8th...spencer kennedy went the 6th and 7th and pitched 2 perfect innings and then Daniel Sarisky came on and pitched 3 innings to get the win...he struck out 6 and was clocked between 91-94 and topped at 95 a few times again...this is a very big win for OU as they beat Holt and Babich but they still need to take care of business and make sure they win 2 out of 3...this win is big but its only big if OU comes out ready to play tomorrow and Sunday...I sure hope this win gives the Petrels a big confidence boost as they should know now they can play with the big boys...also of note is that freshman 2B Jake Spear went 3 for 4 with a huge double to lead off the 10th and played flawless defense

Believe me I was shocked when I heard 95 mph too but both BSC's and OU's guns had him consistently from 90 to 93 and he hit 95 five different times on both guns

Well I'm new to the board so I thought I'd chime in,

I'm not sure I would say OU played uninspired ball this past weekend at BSC, just maybe a little sloppy. BSC is a solid team throughout and OU played right with them in all 3 games...the difference was just OU made a few more mistakes and as BATR said, you can't make mistakes against good teams like BSC. From what I have seen of the OU program in the past, this year is a huge step forward and I believe they will compete for the East division this year and for the next few to come.

Daniel Sarisky was filthy Saturday and has been dominant as the closer (he legitimately hit 95 mph on Saturday at BSC multiple times). Andy Farrey should be getting talked about more as he is hitting .430 and has one of the best pure lefty swings I've ever seen. JJ Rizzo has been raking (.400 BA) and playing great defense, Andrew Llano is over .350 and is a clutch hitter. Mark Hoban, who transferred from Piedmont, is 5-1, and their new side-arming setup man Spencer Kennedy has been lights out since dropping down.

Tommorow should be very interesting as the Petrels get the opportunity to take on Division I Georgia State. No matter what the result is, it should be a great experience for the players to play a team at that level. Im pretty sure they will be pitching by committee, seeing as they have a big series this weekend with Rhodes. It should be a lot of fun tomorrow and this weekend against Rhodes!
