Poets(Mean Machine) are getting a spanking tonight by a pissed off Redlands team with a point to make to the rest of the SCIAC conference and D3 football teams. Whittiers starting QB our only hope to make plays on offense must be injured. Back to last years painful moments to watch. Where's Paul Crue (longest yard fame) when we need him?

Clarification to Nihon Tiger I am a relative of the Whittier RB. Get your facts straight. I admitted it a few months back when asked. We are Italian and we watch each others back understand sunnyboy?

Congtats to the Poets. I listened to the game on the Chapman radio feed and the Poets definately won the battle on the offensive and defensive line. Both teams could not convert in the red zone but the Poets did enough to overcome some turnovers. Looks like Chapman has some decisions to make at QB. Next Redlands at Redlands oh boy! Good hard clean smash mouth football Poets way to go!

Oxy you have my respect! what a come back.

Wow! been out of town for a while Whittier football a hot topic? My son played at Whittier and has made some quality life long friends. On the subject of class when you win you should win with class and when you lose you need to accept your faith and learn from your mistakes and work on getting better. My son chose to go to Whittier because Coach Carlson sold him a few years ago that they were rebuilding the program and he would have a great opportunity to play and get a great education he did both. Unfortunately for what ever reasons Coach left  and  Coach Hammer took over during a time when the current AD was not yet hired. It will all get worked out stay tuned. This guy wants to win and I hope to do things the right way. It is hard to sit in the stands and sometimes watch but you accept a rebuilding program for what it is an opportunity to play. I was disappointed to see that the sense of urgency to win now  by the current coaching staff take a back seat to bringing in quality character players and building a program such as Oxy ,Redlands Cal Lu etc. I see some of the other teams in the conference taking the high road to achieve this goal. I also feel on a squad of nearly 100 players that a few bad apples can mess things up. I can't mention the names of all of the good  quality guys but the last couple of years do you  think that  guys like QB Josh Scurlock  #11  Linebacker Jared Izodoro and  RB Anthony Pomponio #6 guys who lead the conference in their respected positions and current players  Linebacker Brandon Boehm # 44 and  O-lineman Alex Durazo would want their legacies associated with what is currently going on. Lets get it right Whittier we care!

Nice job by the Poets a win is a win. Also a nice job by new Offensive coordinator and new Defensive coordinator. Long over due. Wish they had those guys around the last few years in those leadership roles. it seems some good adjustments were made during the game after a shakey start on Defense.

Interesting comments by Coach Hammer regarding past Senior leadership in the Whittier News Paper. The young coach will never be successful until he starts taking ownership from the top of the food chain on the success and leadership of his team. Seniors aren't the ones calling bone head plays on 3rd and short and putting the game during crunch time in the hands of inexperienced QB's and a defense jumping off side on 3rd and 4th and inches constantly pooch kicking kick offs and putting the opposing team at midfield , have you been to well coached Whittier game in a while?. Hopefully the program is getting it right with stadium upgrades press guides etc. Please bring in quality players that have some school spirit and are home grown and not a few thugs from local JC's  to save his job. Teach the game coach and dicipline your coaching staff. I am sure his former Seniors will love to speak to him regarding his comments. I know several of these  Whittier graduates and they are a class act.

Regarding former SCIAC players. Former Whittier running back Anthony Pomponio is featured in Iron Man magazine October edition currently on news stands as a rising star in the "natural" Body building industry.

I like reading everyones comments on this board and have had a few laughs over the years. I would like to bring some attention to one of the SCIACS most humble guys but an athlete to watch Anthony Pomponio of lowley Whittier College. For those who may not know with some help he lead the SCIAC this year in rushing on a team with no QB after their starter was injured. On any other team he may have broken records. Heres a guy who is 5'8" and weighs in at 185lbs. he runs the 40 in 4.3 and bench presses 430lbs. He can also by the way dunk a basketball. From what I am told he is being tried out by a Canadien Football Team in the very near future. He was offered 3 opportunities to play in Europe but elected to finish his Senior year and graduate in 4 years. Oh and check this out he entered a natural Bodybuilding competition in L.A. after finishing 3rd in his first competition shortly after football season in San Diego and finished in 1st place in his weight division. Props to you Anthony and good luck may the underdog never give up their dreams!
