Quakers were down a touchdown to E&H with a quarter to go, but a few turnovers in the wrong end of the field led to the final E&H scores.  Mildly disappointed in E&H coaching decision to kick a FG with 26 seconds to go in a 30-6 game that was already decided.  I would have taken a knee.  The opposing coach usually remembers later when the tables are turned.  :)  E&H was the better team today, nonetheless, and congratulations to them for finishing 5-5.  GC finished at 2-8 with an ODAC win, so some noticeable improvement over 2010.
Hasa, first, please accept my apologies for not getting by to see you. I got tied up with friends before the game and at half. Most of the game was defined by two hard fighting defenses. I was noticing particularly #55, as he played nose tackle on many of the plays. I spoke to him after the game to congratulate him on his play. Without a doubt, your program is going in the right direction. With the number of freshmen and sophs starting, the Quakers have alot to look forward to in the next year or so. I have no explanation for the FG with 27 secs remaining. I scratched my head as well. I just know that Coach Monty is not a rub your face in the dirt kind of person. I just don't know. For what it is worth, I offer my apologies for that play.

On an up note, my prayer was answered ... There were no serious injuries during the game. My parting thought is to thank all of the posters on this board. You have added to my enjoyment of 4 years of ODAC football. Best of luck to the Tigers. Bring us an ODAC "W" in the playoffs!!  WM

Nova
Upset special this week is GC-Q

Anything that flies... dies (this weekend) :)
That works for me!  We haven't gotten the Wasps since 2007.  :)
Saturday'sgame should be a good one. I have been really impressed with what the Quakes have been able to pull together in the past two games. The Waspers have had a coulda, shoulda, woulda kind of season. I will not get into that. I will say that the Waspers have fought to the final bell in every game that they have played. They puckered up the Tigers and Generals and got beat by the Cardinals and Eagles. On a downer note, the game with the Quakes will be my son's final college football game. He has anchored an oline that has been pretty stingy in the sack department. I would have hoped for more "W's" and fewer "L's." However, he has enjoyed 4 years of ODAC Football, has stayed relatively healthy and will graduate in May with 2 degrees. I have visited every beautiful ODAC Campus and most of the USA South Campuses. All of the fans have been great. Never an ill word from anyone... (alot more than I can say about the 1 NAIA school that we played this year!) The Quakes may win on Saturday. I pray for safety for all, and my son, #70 will always be a champion in my heart... regardless of the outcome.  Go Wasps!!

Hasa, I will try to look you up. I'll have on a Wasp jersey ... #70.

Just went over to www.ehc.edu to check the status of the Wasps for tomorrow's game and came across this paragraph:

"Our Division III athletic programs claim a long winning tradition in one of the nation's toughest conferences, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. We provide 13 sports, seven for women and seven for men. Our men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer and tennis. Women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Our sports camps provide opportunities for student athletes to work with younger students who are thinking about college athletics. Information about the progress of our teams and other information for E&H sports fans is located at GoWasps.com."

First, 7 and 7 equals 14.  To make matters even more confusing, baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer and tennis for men equals six sports while basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming, tennis and volleyball also equals six for women.  Is the Webmaster on sabbatical this semester?  :)
Details, details, details!!

waspermike - glad you had a good trip to the 'ville...just not so glad you and your wasps left with a "w"

lots of penalties for the monarchs...15 for 128 per the box score (vs. 1 for 15 for the wasps) and a tough day for the long-snapper may have been the difference in the game - the monarchs can't shoot themselves in the foot like they did today if they want to be a contender in the usasac
Looks like the team is on the cusp of some great things. I had a great conversation with a member of the Admissions Department. He is very enthusiastic about things going on at the campus and with the football team. It shows. Best of luck for the remainder of the season. WM

mu leads ehc 17-10 at halftime...the wasps had 1st and goal inside the mu 5 and the defense stood tall and gave up just a fg

Just got in from F'ville ... Narch, I am happy and thankful for the check in "W" column. From my vantage point, MU seemed starved ... my Waspers did not. I know all about moral victories and what they get you. BUT, MU showed their fans and opponents some true grit. I hope that you are proud of them. Without a couple of ints and some senseless penalties, the outcome would have been much different. Thanks to MU for a great afternoon. Everyone was pleasant and most hospitable. Really liked to see the band march in. On to Ashland - WM

Quote from: rmcjackets1988 on September 20, 2011, 10:51:56 AMWhat has happened to our passing game?  I hope that Arruza doesn't think that we can continue to run the ball down everyone's throats.  That may work on the Averett and the Methodist teams but teams in the ODAC are far to smart for that.
i'm certain that you meant that teams in the odac are "far too smart", right :)

after seeing guilford have some success in the running game against mu and watching mu scrimmage in the preseason, i think the fact that rmc ran all over mu is more a byproduct of personnel than gray matter

on the d-line, the monarchs have a couple of guys that can really get after the qb, but are smallish and not built to stop a power running game - the same can be said for most of the mu lb's, who average around 205 lbs - you can devise a scheme to stop the running game, but eventually the players have to be able to execute...if they are getting out-muscled at the point of attack, scheme (smarts) only does so much

all of this is why i am glad to see that ehc is throwing the ball around a lot more this year than in the past...i think the best chance for a monarch victory is when the other team throws the ball - should be a fun game on saturday...if any ehc fans on the board are coming down, drive safe - should be a nice sloppy field with lots of mud on the uni's...perfect football conditions :)
I am headed your way tomorrow. Looking forward to a great game. Will the rain move out by game time? Waspers dropped a heartbreaker last week. You probably have seen the punt return video. That was not what beat us. Could not get anything going on offense in the second half. Team is pretty healthy, save a couple of bruises and sprains. Have a couple of guys that can run the ball and a bunch that can catch. I think that we have a good o-line this year. Average weight is 271. I am hoping for a good game. I'll be the one there with the blue shirt and yellow hat! Hope to see you tomorrow. WM

I think - if three teams finish in a tie at 5-1 (A beats B and B beats C and C beats A), then the team with the longest playoff drought gets to go.  I'm not sure about W&L and RMC, but HSC went last year.  Again, I'm not sure, but I think it would be W&L.
Hasa, I have lost your e-mail addresses. If you have mine, could you e-mail me at work or at home with yours? Thanks - WM

R-MC Yellow Jackets ranked #25 in latest D3 Football poll......BZZZZZZZ......Go Jackets!!

We do alot of talk around here about players their impact on a team.  I want to tip my hat to Coach Arruza and the job that he is done turning around that program.  He took a 2-8 program in 2006 to a Nationally ranked team with an ODAC championship on the books in 4 years.  I believe that is a testament to his recruiting, his coaching style and his committment to the RMC community.

Keep up the good work!

'08 Congrats on a great start..! RMC is out of the roof. HSC and the Eagles aren't too bad either. In the ODAC, you never know who will show up on Saturday. It should be a WILD finish!! Looking forward to seeing the Jackts in Emory in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile...it's BEAT METHODIST!!... wm

Hasa
I feel your frustration thru the post. I felt your pain from 2000-04 or there abouts. As a former coach it made me semi insane watching them. You know the old axiom. "you will not have a jump in improvement any bigger than you will have than from game one to game 2". Something like that anyway. They will be much better next week but if they get slammed they probably are doomed for the year. I am going to start watching the Monarchs or something. Good thing I stopped drinking..again
abnrgr - any "improvement" from game one to game two was not readily apparent.  :)  I'd circled these two games as "maybes", so it looks as though it will be a long season.  I hope the Quakers prove me wrong, but I know stronger teams lie ahead.
Hasa...it's the ODAC. I want my Waspers to win. But, you never know. Every team that my Waspers play scare me to death. Three years ago, Waspers drilled the Tigers, Two years ago they drilled the Jackets... did not get a Ring.  This year ...Who knows? Jackets are playing well.. Tigers have had their hands full, but playing well. My Waspers are playing to the level of the Competition. It's the ODAC... Play Well, Be Strong, Good Luck!

Congratulations to the rest of the ODAC.  Keep up the good work in the non-conference portions of your schedules!

Sorry folks-

I know I am almost the only Ferrum supporter on the board...(except for Ryan) but this is a BIG DEAL!!!
Allen, I love you. How is that for a little LOVE! I ain't really crazy about Ferrum because they always fight my Waspers tooth and nail! It is a great rivalry. This IS a big deal, and I am really happy for Ferrum. I think back 3/4 years ago when E&H announced the stadium expansion. The work done so far has done alot for the morale of the school, athletic teams and fans. Ferrum will reap great rewards from this announcement. Congratulations!! WM

Went out to Ferrum, and saw one heck of a game- Scoreless through three quarters, Ferrum fell in double OT 23-17. Defense looked good for Ferrum, but sort of wore down a bit. Jennings is one fast back. Had over 200 yards.
Mayo had a great game scoring 2 TD, and running for over 100 yards.

Overall, I think Ferrum played well. Some things that could have gone better, FG's were 1 of 3, and a receiver dropped a pass wide open in the end zone. Overall I think they have a lot of room to be optimistic.
Allen, I was at the game yesterday and I think that you should be as proud of your Panthers as I am my Waspers. I got to the game late. There was some kind of festival/flea market going on in Hillsville. It took about 1.5 hrs to get through the mess. I don't know why the Panthers were picked in the bottom half of the Conference. Mayo, and the running back (I can't remember his name) present multiple threats. Either is capable of breaking one. Mayo can sling it a mile. The speed on your D was amazing. It was a cleanly played game with great sportsmanship. Good things are coming your way.! WM

Thanks WFU, from what I got today it was a very limited as far as "game play". Not much to talk about although I was told that the AU kicker hit a 56 yarder. Where you at KickerDad, thats got to bring a smile to your face....

Sounds like the o line is pretty banged up. Doubtful Kyle will be back next week, not sure about Phil and guess Kevin is nursing a bad shoulder. Going to make a tuff job a lot tougher next week.
SORRY...I ran out of room. It was hard for me to tell anything about the Averett D. Wasper first string scored on 1st possession in 5 plays. 4 were passes. Jennings touched to ball only for a 3 yd push to score. The starters got only about 12 reps. Averett D-line is big. They can fill holes. Can they move? I don't know. My amateur assessment is that both Averett and Emory have some goods things to look forward to. It was HOT, but it was FUN!! Best of luck for a great season. WM

WFU, AUPOP, et al....! Greetings..! I attended the entire scrimmage on Saturday and agree with WFU's assessment completely. From the Wasper perspective, I was really impressed with Averett's q-b and running back. The q-b had good field presense and had an arm like a rifle. The running back was a tank.To be so big, he ran extremely well. If I were a Cougar, I'd worry about the o-line. I understand that there have been some injuries. That will have to be fixed before HSC. They are animals. Is the Averett kicker human? Did I see him kick a 60 yarder? If not, it was close. He'll win some games for you.

Hey...!!  How about it. Camp is now in its second week; if you count beginning last Wednesday as the 1st week. I had a chance to watch the Waspers over the weekend. I have to tell you that they look good. There have been about 80 freshmen report. Some are the "real deal." Speed and size are the best charateristics to describe them. Hard to tell alot at this point because they were not having full contact. A full inter-squad scrimmage ths weekend will tell more...Averette in 2 weeks will tell even more. Summer conditioning paid off. Most all looked fit. Enthusiasm was evident in practice. The kids were having a good time. I think that this is going to be an interesting year in the ODAC. Right now, I see 4 - 5 teams that could win the ring. And....I think that the Waspers are one of those Teams...! Any other reports from around the conference??

Averett - E&H scrimmage is 2 weeks from this Saturday, the 28th at Averett.
Thanks for the info. My son plays for the Waspers. There is a "homer" that my son played with in high school on the Averett Team. It is always good to see the local boys do well..!! I have followed Averett and was sorry to see that they had couple of down years. It happens! Sounds like things are on the upswing. Best of luck and hope to see you in Danville..!!  Should be a good outing.  WM
